Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Level of the Raid Boss

I ate all the fruit with Tina, Tim, and the receptionist. When I was done, I just kind of flopped back and stared at the shiny part of the spear. My face looked weird in it.

I started thinking about how far I'd gone. I never thought I'd get this far. It's kind of strange. There's still so much stuff I don't know. I wonder if I'll ever figure it all out.

Kit and Exile came back with more fruit baskets. It was getting dark outside, almost nighttime.

"Now that you've decided to become involved, as per Lady Tama's trust." Kit stuffs an entire pineapple into his mouth.

Exile continues, "We shall trust you, and teach you what we know. To keep you alive and well."

I suddenly remembered my very first request paper. I still have it. I don't really know why. Maybe it's special. I took it out. I always keep it folded up with my three coins in my diary. It feels safe that way. The words are kind of faded now, but if you squint, you can still read them.

REQUEST FORM: FREE BOSS GIRL FROM CORRUPTION

CLIENT: THE ELF GIRL WHO LOOKS CLUELESS ABOUT EVERYTHING (IN BAD HANDWRITING)

CONDITIONS: BOSS GIRL REMAINS ALIVE AND WELL.

PAYMENT: 3 COINS

NOTES: She's got enough gear and income to start adventuring, perhaps make a name for herself, and even help or contribute to making the world a better place. Don't displace your trust in her; she'll always perform well.

SIGNED: (OMEGA SEAL) (NOOBIE'S SEAL)

Kit and Exile looked at my paper and made weird faces. I think they were trying not to laugh at me.

"Perhaps…it's a silly twist of fate," Kit added

With Exile continuing, "Or a cruel way of us healing."

Then they both reached their hands out at me, like they wanted me to give them something.

"The dragon's carcass, where did you put it?" They both demanded.

I just stared at them. I didn't know what to say at all. My head felt all empty and fuzzy.

"Your friend sealed it," Serina answered them.

Kit and Exile turned to look at Serina. She was just standing by the door, watching us.

They both looked at Serina like they were mad at her, but she just acted like they didn't even exist.

Serina sat down next to Tim and Tina and asked for a drink. She didn't look at anybody.

"I've just finished burying and paying my due respects to my fallen sisters…so if you two decide that you're going to punish and unleash your fury for my past foul deeds, then you might as well do so now…" Serina declared as she snatched the drink from the guild maid and drank the mug.

Exile and Kit both reach for their swords and quickly draw them to kill Serina.

CLANG!!!

Noobie was just there all of a sudden. I didn't even see him move.

All three of them just froze in a deadlock.

"She KILLED OMEGA!" Kit snarled, "HER PEOPLE RAINED ARROWS ONTO KAT, ONTO US!!!"

"She KILLED ATSUSHI!!! SHE FOUGHT ALONGSIDE A TYRANT NOOBIE! GET OUT OF THE WAY!! I WILL KILL YOU ALONGSIDE HER!!! I DON'T CARE!!!" Exile growled.

Noobie held them both with his Mist Edge, "MERCY…Mercy for the wicked…forgiveness for those that have fallen!"

While everyone was stuck, I just swung my spear and knocked all their weapons away. I didn't even think about what I was doing.

Everyone stared at me. The spear shimmered with smoke, like it was way too cold for the room.

"Stop it! Enough!" I yelled, and I couldn't stop crying. "So many people are already gone. When do we get to have peace? Aren't we all just trying to live, like you guys?"

Exile and Kit both sheath their weapons, as does Noobie.

Serina finished her drink and put her head down on the table.

"Noobie…it's your call." Exile and Kit muttered under their breath as both looked away from Serina.

Noobie takes his Mist Edge and holds it up high as if about to execute Serina.

I almost ran towards him to stop him, but then Mist Edge just hit the table instead.

He didn't hit Serina or anybody. The sword just wobbled in the wood.

"Very well," Exile and Kit nodded in agreement. "We're going to turn in for the night, Noobie. You train her, since you have the carcass and YOU SAVED her."

Noobie bowed in acknowledgment; he knew his duty.

He grabbed my hand and pulled me outside to a big empty spot in the grass. He took the spear with him, too.

I kept slipping and almost fell a lot while he dragged me.

He left me standing there and threw the spear at my feet. Then he sheathes his Mist Edge.

I realized what he was doing.

"N-Noobie…no…No…" I begged him.

"Every Omega member knows and is required to run this before joining or disbanding from Omega," Noobie said in earnest, and with some sadness.

I could hear the shaking in his voice. Even he couldn't hide it.

He slowly draws his Mist Edge and holds it in Knight stance, in front of him with the blade parallel to his posture as he kisses the hilt of the sword, a cross sworn in duty.

I picked up the spear, but my hands were shaking, tears running down my face.

Why did it have to be like this?

Then it happened.

"Right Hand of the Unfallen!" Noobie summoned.

The golden knight phantomized before me and Noobie.

The knight saluted me once again, then, like Noobie, it stood in knightly stance, its great sword parallel to its face as it, too, kissed the hilt of its sword, another cross of duty.

The group follows the clash between Tim and Tina and the Guild receptionist as they realize what is happening. Tim tries to intervene, but the Guild receptionist stops him.

Both Noobie and the Right Hand attacked me at the same time, but suddenly the spear helped me jump away from both of them, right into the air.

I felt light. I felt fast. Wait, was I floating? I think I was really floating.

I glided down, and then it felt like there were a bunch of me, all moving at once. They zoomed past the Right Hand and went for Noobie.

Noobie bashed me on the head with his shield. He pulled it out just in time.

"PAY ATTENTION!!! Your ENEMY WILL ALWAYS ANTICIPATE YOUR MOVEMENTS!" Noobie yelled hoarsely.

They don't let me rest. The right-hand lands his great sword onto the ground where I had just been, causing a small crater.

Thankfully, the spear's butt had sprained me forward, causing the right hand's attack to miss completely.

I then jabbed the spear's blade forward as Noobie's Mist Edge and the Right-hand's great sword both met it, as all 3 shimmered and sparked.

Then the Right-hand swings his sword onto the shaft of the spear, attempting to cut my arms.

I'd dodged backward as Noobie grabbed the spear and threw it away effortlessly.

I then thought, how to get the spear back?

The Right Hand swung his big sword at me again, but I dodged, and it made another hole in the ground where I just was standing.

Noobie was coming at me fast, walking with his shield on his back and Mist Edge in both hands.

Then I got an idea all of a sudden. Noobie and Right Hand fight differently. Noobie is like a wall, and Right Hand is like a storm. If I make them fight one another, I'll get the spear back!

I then pivoted sideways. As Right Hand swings his great sword once again, creating another crater and missing me. I used the Right Hand's great sword as a platform and cartwheeled, kicking the phantom to pivot onto Noobie's shield and creating space for me to roll and retrieve the spear. They both just stared at me, like they couldn't believe what I just did.

Noobie scuffs, and they both came at me again.

It was going to take more than a cartwheel kick panty view to impress them.

Noobie did something different. He threw his shield at me.

I rolled right into the right-hand, getting ready for him to slam his sword down. But he didn't. Instead, he used the hilt to punch me in the ribs, and then he grabbed my hair and held it up high for Noobie to finish me off.

I pushed off the ground with the spear and shot forward, away from the Right Hand and right in front of Noobie. He swung his sword, and it almost hit my face. I felt it scrape my cheek a tiny bit.

The right hand would then advance towards my rear as Noobie advanced from my front. Like a light bulb went off in my head, I knew how to pivot the spear into Tama's form when she speared the two soldiers in the crystal ball's vision.

I turned the spear diagonally and pivoted myself into a swirling airborne stance, stabbing with my right hand, but kicking Noobie in the process. The spear pivoted to my landing with my right hand on one knee from the impact of the attack.

Then they advanced once more towards me as I held the spear's blade low and the butt high in the air.

Noobie strikes first with a stab, which I avoid by withdrawing my spear. The Right-hand then reacts with his great sword feint, allowing him to swing. Yet, he switched the angle of the flat side as it clashed with the shaft of the spear at the last second. I barely caught it in time to block.

The Right-hand then slides his sword, sparking the shaft as he tries to slice me while using the edge of the sword. He followed with a handguard to hook the spear. Dragging me to him as he tries to hit me with the hilt once more, to which I counter with a kick to pry myself away from his distance.

This allowed Noobie to follow up with a two-handed strike to hit the shaft. I held up in defiance to block the attack. I would then spin the spear whilst the blade is aimed at him, as he catches the attack and dodges to avoid the blade of the spear.

As Noobie backed off, the Right hand and he gathered, while I returned my spear to a lower blade stance, and the spear's butt was high towards my face.

Then they both advanced again. Only something was different this time: Noobie swung first. I'd use the blade of the spear to retreat and withdraw the distance, as Noobie suddenly twirled right, and the Right-hand lunged forward with the great sword flat, in a stabbing motion, closing the distance immediately.

I would pivot my footing as I twirled lower to dodge the thrust and swung the spear's blade forward, impaling the phantom's right hand, and the blade reached Noobie's neck.

Noobie smiles. I know he did, as I breathe uncontrollably.

"…Well done…" Noobie acknowledges as the phantom fades.

I just stood there, not really believing I had fought both of them. Both hands of the kingdom: me, all by myself.

"Your reward…" Noobie opens a talisman that contains the dragon's carcass as it wears off.

The Abysmal dragon's carcass is then brought into view.

I stared at the dragon's body. It looked magical. I almost forgot to breathe for a second.

Noobie then steps up to the dragon's carcass, and he takes Mist Edge, cuts out an Obsidian so beautiful that it glows with a dark purple hue, and hands it to me.

I looked at the stone as if it were a fallen star, its reflection of the night sky shining back at me. They were glowing, and the dragon thing's purple light made everything look strange and beautiful.

"Dragon's night star…the Abysmal Dragon's core. Each calamity holds a jewel of its own that empowers those who possess it. You can use it to make your own equipment or imagine your own gear, and it'll be made for you…" Noobie explains, "It is your right, since you killed the Abysmal dragon after all."

Noobie sheathes Mist Edge.

Before I could even say anything, the dragon's night star started to glow and react to me.

It upgraded my armor to scaled obsidian armor, matching the dragon that formed around my chest and upper torso. It gave me a crown plate that protected my forehead, with horns and dragon-like wings. It also gave me gauntlets that matched the dragon's claws, glowing with purple hues, matching the meteor claws it once cast.

My lower groin was protected by a skirt made from two wings that expanded to my rear, with scales lining the sides of my thighs and reforming into feet with the likes of the dragon's own claws and feet. Both my shoulders were encased in the same material, mirroring the round, pointed, jagged edges of the Abysmal dragon's chest and shoulders. My neck was protected by the same hardened obsidian scales, made into neck guards that shattered my copper sword.

Everyone just stared at me while my armor and stuff changed.

Noobie wasn't looking; he had his head down.

Tama's spear was suddenly changed, the shaft became scale-like, and the spear's blade changed into a scepter that shot out an oblivion dark, star-like blade that bubbled.

I looked at everyone. I didn't know what to say at all. Was I supposed to do something now?

"Congratulations! Missy, you completed a class recognition!" the Guild receptionist screamed.

"Class recognition?" I pondered while holding my scepter spear in confusion.

"Class recognition is when you've reached a certain level, and you're upgraded, unable to reclass. Your path, your chosen choices that have mattered, that have shaped you into this," Noobie explained.

"Can I see what I am?" I asked.

The guild receptionist smiles as she helps me access my own profile menu. She then halts and looks at me in question, but she doesn't stop and tells me confidently.

"You're no longer just Boss girl…You've been reclassed to "Dark Star Bearer Boss girl," a class unique only to you. The Guild Receptionist smiled with a strand of tears coming down her cheeks.

I gasp in delight.

The dragon's carcass then slowly dissipates into the wind.

"Ah-Your Level-", the Guild receptionist stutters.

"What level am I!?", I asked in excitement.

"…Level 180," the Guild receptionist giggles.

I threw a fit in protest as Noobie then tried to talk to me.

Unbeknownst to everyone, though, as the nervous guild receptionist slowly scrolls past my stats:

Profile: Boss girl (her name?? Or at least given by the system's code)

Class: Dark Star Bearer

LEVEL:180 (Her current level)

Experience points: 75000/180000 (her experience bar, apparently, she's still leveling?)

HP: 9,000,000,000 (basically purple health bar x 15 at this point)

MANA: MAX (can spam magic, but she doesn't know any magic yet).

The nervous, sweating Guild receptionist then nervously gathers the group up in a hasty manner back to the Guild Tavern; drinks being on her.

I was confused by the sudden change in her voice, but free drinks are fine with me.
