Chapter 76 - Painted in blood

Owen was running as fast as he could, in fact, he had now ran for over two miles and with Kael closely following him, he had to run even further.

Though, he had a plan since he was in a market, with dozens of food stalls and hundreds of people, it was extremely easy to hide. So, Owen transformed into a random person and acted normal, buying a few apples for himself.

Kael reached the marketplace and saw that Owen was nowhere to be seen. However, he saw a man with black hair and with the exact height and physique. Upon closer look, he had the exact same look as Owen, which caused Kael to be extremely sure that this was the person.

He looked around and noticed that it would be too dangerous to use his powers so he picked up a sword, which was nearby, and slashed the man's back.

However, what happened next, made him go pale.

The man didn't flinch or move, he simply just stood there. Not only that but he didn't transform back into himself, meaning this wasn't Owen but a random stranger.

A large slash mark was now on his back and blood was spilling out like crazy but the man didn't react. His face was cold and emotionless, he looked like Zombie except even more expressionless, in fact, he looked depressed.

And despite having a quite a painful and dangerous cut on his back, he didn't get angry. He simply started to walk in the same direction that he was previously walking. He didn't even look at the person who cut him.

Kael slightly froze and apologized. "Uhm, I am s-...I'll pay for the hospital bills! And...uhm, you okay?"

The man turned and slightly smiled, though it was not a joyful smile, it looked like a smile full of pain. "Ah, no need. I'm fine."

Kael hesitated but once the man was gone, he simply shrugged and got back to chasing after Owen.

Meanwhile the man, whose name was Tristan, finally reached his home. He opened the door, went in, checked if anyone was looking or not, and once he confirmed that no one was, he closed the door.

He changed and then he went to his basement.

There were stairs that led to it and the only thing in the basement was a room.

Tristan went into the basement and opened the door of the room, once he entered, he picked up a knife and looked at the view in front of him.

It was a naked woman that was most likely dead. She was stuck onto the wall because of the several knifes keeping her dead body together. It looked like it had been days since her death and Tristan simply looked at it and smiled. "Ah, perfect. A magnificent masterpiece made by me. Though, it seems that I'll need a new painting very soon as this one has been ruined."

Tristan got extremely close with the body, to the point that they were touching. He looked at it in a lustful way and moved his hand in a circling motion on her chest. "How many days has it been? How many experiences have we shared? How much have I loved you? I don't know."

Tristan sighed and approached a book that was filled with dozens and dozens of names, which were all of women, most likely his victims. "It's time to make a new masterpiece...my 459th art. Ah, my fingers are trembling from excitement."

Tristan then suddenly paused and looked at his calendar and then his watch. "Ah...it's lunch time already. I guess it's time to eat with my family members..."

Tristan left the basement and made his way to the dining room, where there were puppets already sitting on their respective chairs. "Ah, Raven...my dear friend. He even made me puppets of my family members and put their souls in it so they will never leave me."

"If he were alive today, I would have told him to make puppets of my wife and child too. Oh well, It's a shame, I suppose," Tristan said with a weird smile, a mix of craziness and grief.

After he ate, he went outside to get a new victim.

------------------------

Meanwhile, Zombie stood up and left the room. However, before he left, he took out the memory book of Vivian using his ability, "pages of truth".

He then proceeded to read the book throughout the entire walk. After reading a few dozen pages, he sighed and closed the book. "It's time. Owen the clone, was it? You won't get away with this," Said Zombie, clenching his fist, his eyes red from crying.

-----------------------

Kael searched everywhere but found nothing. Not even a single trace of Owen.

"Where is he?" He wondered, looking around. Kael was in a remote area, which was the perfect opportunity for Owen to strike.

A shovel hit the back of Kael's head, causing it bleed massively. However, Owen didn't stop there. He attacked with the shovel multiple times, each time aiming for the head. Within seconds, Kael was on the ground, his head bleeding massively. It was only a matter of time before his death. "Bet you didn't notice me coming from behind, eh."

Owen slightly laughed and was about to leave but just then, Kael got up.

"What...? I am sure I hit you in the head multiple times...?!" Owen said, his heart beating.

"You did. But I ain't goin' down with a few strikes to the head," Kael said, standing up but bleeding heavily. "Your attacks have gotten weaker. They have no force behind it. Is it because I had damaged you earlier?" Kael said with a smirk.

Owen clenched his shovel, knowing he was right. "Shut your fucking mouth right now, you don't know who you're dealing with."

"Oh, I know," Kael said with a serious face, covering his entire body with fire. "I know very well who I am dealing with. Wanna know who? A fuckin' weak bitch."

Owen clenched his teeth and transformed into the air, making him completely invisible and untouchable. However, Kael had a plan. He made a giant ring of fire that surrounded the entire area. It's walls were at least five meters tall and if Owen were to touch it, he would get burned and reveal his position. "Come on! You're the air right? Get out of this!"

With no response, Kael smirked. "fine, then. I guess we'll have to do it the hard way."

Suddenly, the ring of fire slowly started to get smaller and smaller, making it so Owen has nowhere to escape. "The less you talk, the smaller it gets. And if it gets small enough, you'll burn and turn into ashes."

Owen didn't say anything but instead, transformed himself back into his original form.

He tried to attack Kael with the shovel again but this time, Kael shoved it and landed a powerful punch right on the stomach. Then Kael elbowed his face, which caused Owen to be launched into the ground. "How did you like that? Huh! Bet it's fun, right!"

Owen smirked and transformed into air again. "You're such an amateur. Did you forget that I am air? I can simply go above your ring of fire and escape."

Before Kael could respond, Owen had already gotten out of the ring of fire and transformed back into his original form. "Well, this is my goodb-" before Owen could finish his sentence, a hand grabbed him his neck from behind, lifting him up.
