Just as Uchiha Lie was lost in thought about Sesshomaru's departure, his expression suddenly changed. His brows tightened, and his sharp eyes swept toward a distant corner of the battlefield.
Through the fading smoke and broken trees, he saw several strange demon creatures shaped like wasps. These were Naraku's puppets—small, twisted beings that moved silently through the air. Their claws clutched a familiar object.
A shard of the Shikon Jewel.
It was embedded in the severed human arm Sesshomaru had possessed earlier. When Sesshomaru transformed into his giant dog form, the violent surge of demonic power had torn that arm away. The shard had fallen unnoticed during the chaos.
And now Naraku was trying to retrieve it.
A faint smile appeared on Uchiha Lie's face.
"Trying to take back something that delivered itself?" he muttered. "Did you think you could enjoy every advantage?"
He raised his hand calmly.
"Wind Release: Wind Blade!"
A transparent arc of compressed wind shot forward like a blade forged from air itself. It cut cleanly through the swarm of Mōryōmaru. Their bodies split apart instantly, falling lifelessly to the ground.
The shard made a faint metallic sound as it dropped onto the earth.
"Ah! A Shikon Jewel shard!" Kagome exclaimed. She rushed forward and picked it up carefully.
The faint purple glow reflected in her eyes.
To everyone's surprise, she did not place it immediately into her bottle. Instead, she hurried over to Uchiha Lie and extended her hand.
"Lie, you should take it."
Inuyasha opened his mouth as if to object. "Kagome—"
But he stopped himself.
He knew very well that without Uchiha Lie's intervention tonight, Sesshomaru would have overwhelmed them. It was only fair that the shard belonged to him.
However, Uchiha Lie waved his hand dismissively.
"You keep it," he said lightly. "It was kindly delivered by a so-called 'well-wisher.' It's more suitable for you."
At that moment, he was still in Sage Mode. Everything within several kilometers was clear in his perception. Deep within the forest, he could sense a chaotic and twisted demonic aura.
Naraku.
But Uchiha Lie did not move.
Naraku was cunning. That presence was likely only a puppet body. His real form was hidden elsewhere.
More importantly—Naraku was the perfect whetstone for Inuyasha and the others. Removing him too early would disrupt their growth.
"A well-wisher? Who?" Kagome asked curiously while placing the shard into her glass bottle and sealing it tightly.
"Naraku," Uchiha Lie answered calmly.
The moment the name left his lips, Miroku's expression darkened.
"Naraku…" he murmured. His hand instinctively tightened around the beads near his Wind Tunnel.
Inuyasha's eyes flared with killing intent. "Where is he?!"
"He was over there just now," Uchiha Lie said, pointing toward the forest. "But the aura disappeared."
Inuyasha immediately prepared to charge forward.
Uchiha Lie grabbed his shoulder and stopped him. "It's gone. Don't waste your energy."
Inuyasha clenched his fists, frustration written across his face.
Seeing their disappointed expressions, Uchiha Lie spoke again.
"If you want to find Naraku, the method is simple."
All three of them looked at him immediately.
"You're collecting Shikon Jewel shards, right?" he said. "Naraku is doing the same. Just now, he tried to retrieve this one. That means he also needs them."
Kagome nodded slowly. "So if we keep collecting shards, we'll eventually meet him."
"Yes," Miroku agreed quietly. "That is what I have believed."
But Kagome's face turned worried. "The problem is time. Miroku's curse…"
She glanced at Miroku's right hand. The Wind Tunnel could swallow him whole one day.
"Don't worry," Uchiha Lie said firmly. "It won't take long."
He looked toward the forest again.
"The Shikon Jewel itself won't tolerate being shattered forever. Naraku is impatient—but the jewel is even more so. It will push him to gather the shards quickly."
Kagome blinked. "The jewel… pushing Naraku?"
"Yes."
Uchiha Lie's tone became colder.
"In my perception, Naraku's already chaotic demonic aura is mixed with the power of the Shikon Jewel. He thinks he is using its power. In reality, he is being influenced by it. He is becoming its puppet."
Miroku's expression grew serious. "That would explain his increasing madness."
Inuyasha frowned. "But the Shikon Jewel is supposed to grant any wish."
Uchiha Lie stared at him as if he had just said something absurd.
"You actually believe that legend?"
"For hundreds of years, people have said it grants wishes!" Inuyasha argued stubbornly. He had long hoped to use it to become a full demon.
Uchiha Lie sighed.
"Use your brain. If it truly granted any wish without cost, would it still be wandering the world for centuries?"
He stepped closer.
"There are countless powerful demons and humans in this world. If it could truly grant any wish, it would have been fought over endlessly. Do you really think it would still be left for you, Kagome, and Miroku to gather?"
Inuyasha froze.
"Think about your father," Uchiha Lie continued. "The Inu no Taisho. Sesshomaru's mother is still alive. If the jewel could truly resurrect the dead or grant any desire freely, would she not have used it to bring him back?"
Inuyasha had no answer.
The flaw in the legend was obvious when spoken aloud.
"But," Uchiha Lie added, "it's not entirely false either."
Kagome leaned forward. "What do you mean?"
"Inuyasha," Uchiha Lie asked, "what is your wish?"
Inuyasha hesitated. His voice was low. "I want to become a true demon."
Uchiha Lie nodded slowly.
"It could grant that wish."
Inuyasha's eyes widened slightly.
"But the way it would grant it…" Uchiha Lie's gaze turned sharp, "would not be what you imagine."
He spoke calmly.
"The jewel could merge with you. It could forcibly awaken your demon blood, transforming you completely."
Kagome's grip tightened on Inuyasha's sleeve.
"But in doing so, you would lose your reason. You would become a creature controlled entirely by its evil aura. A monster that only knows destruction."
Kagome's face turned pale.
"That… that can't be right," she whispered.
"In a twisted way," Miroku said quietly, "it would still have granted the wish."
"Exactly," Uchiha Lie replied.
"The Shikon Jewel is not a blessing. It is an evil object born from endless conflict and hatred. That is why Kikyo purified it constantly. That is why she wanted it destroyed."
He looked toward the forest again.
"Naraku has already fallen under its influence. He believes he is in control, but he is being driven deeper into madness."
Inuyasha lowered his head.
For years, he had dreamed of shedding his half-demon identity. Of no longer being rejected by either side. Of belonging.
Uchiha Lie's voice softened slightly.
"You envy Sesshomaru because he is a pure demon."
Inuyasha remained silent.
"But Sesshomaru, despite craving strength, never seeks the Shikon Jewel. He knows borrowed power is not true power."
He paused, then spoke with weight.
"Inuyasha, your demon blood is your father's gift."
He looked directly at him.
"And your human blood is your mother's treasure."
The words struck deeply.
"When you wish to erase your human side, you are denying the legacy your mother left you."
Inuyasha's body trembled slightly.
His mother's gentle smile flashed in his memory.
The warmth of her embrace.
The blood flowing in his veins was proof of her existence.
He had always viewed his half-demon identity as a curse.
But now—
He realized it was also a gift.
His demon blood gave him strength.
His human blood gave him heart.
Without either, he would not be himself.
For a long moment, no one spoke.
The battlefield, once filled with violence, was now quiet.
And in that silence—
A seed of understanding had finally been planted in Inuyasha's heart.
