Chapter 9
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters Late Night
Nick Fury stood before the holographic display. The footage looped endlessly: Yang Jian's single punch sending the Hulk crashing unconscious.
"What did he say?" Fury asked without turning.
Natasha stood behind him, voice level. "He not only knows about the Tesseract—he knows we found Captain America's plane in the Arctic."
Fury's single eye narrowed slightly. "Interesting."
"He won't come. But he warned us to behave." Natasha added.
Fury turned. "He thinks he's Superman?"
Coulson stepped forward from the side, holding a file. "Director, based on current data, Yang Jian's abilities far exceed our estimates. If he wanted to, he could replace S.H.I.E.L.D.'s leadership."
Fury was silent for a moment. He shut off the hologram and walked to his desk.
"Prepare the contingency plan."
"If he's not a friend…"
A cold glint flashed in his eye.
"…make sure he never becomes an enemy."
...
Meanwhile
Yang Jian stood on the villa balcony, fingertips lightly rubbing his chin.
His gaze pierced the clouds, locking onto a hidden location inside S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters.
That was where they kept the Tesseract.
"Since Fury was so eager to invite me… I'll just go pick it up early." His eyes hardened with resolve.
In the next instant, his figure vanished.
Above S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters Ten Thousand Meters Up
Yang Jian hovered above the cloud layer, looking down at the heavily fortified building below.
Super vision cut through layers of walls, zeroing in on Sub-Level 7—the 084 Containment Vault.
The Tesseract floated quietly in its energy field, radiating eerie blue light.
"Security's decent." Yang Jian chuckled softly.
Infrared sensors, laser grids, vibration alarms, biometric locks.
To ordinary people, it was an impregnable fortress.
To him? Meaningless.
The moment super speed activated, the world froze in his perception.
Air stilled. Birds hung motionless.
He strolled downward casually, passing straight through the outer walls without triggering a single alert.
In the corridors, patrolling agents stood like statues—blink cycles stretched into slow motion.
Hands in pockets, Yang Jian walked past them at leisure.
He even reached into one agent's snack bag, popped a candy into his mouth.
"Tch. Too sweet."
At the massive alloy door, he stopped.
The lock required top-level retinal and fingerprint scans. Two fully armed guards flanked it.
Of course, in super speed, they never even saw his shadow.
He placed a hand on the lock.
Bio-field infiltration.
A precise micro-vibration disrupted the circuits. The door unlocked silently and swung open.
Yang Jian stepped inside.
Surveillance camera lights froze mid-blink.
He passed through layer after layer of security until he reached the sealed containment chamber.
The Tesseract hovered in the center energy field, glowing deep blue.
"Beautiful." Yang Jian murmured in genuine admiration.
He reached through the barrier and lifted it effortlessly.
No alarms. No energy spikes. His bio-field completely masked everything.
He studied it closely. Super vision tried to pierce the surface but couldn't—yet he clearly saw the intricate spatial energy patterns flowing inside, like the veins of the universe.
"Interesting."
Satisfied, he casually stored the Tesseract in system space and turned to leave.
Every surveillance feed showed nothing. One minute later—
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters – Alarm Klaxons Blared!
"Director! The Tesseract—it's gone!"
Fury had just finished talking with Natasha. His face changed the instant he heard the report.
"What?!"
He rushed to Sub-Level 7, a squad of armed agents behind him.
In the monitoring room, techs were sweating bullets, pulling footage.
"All feeds are normal—no intrusion signs—but the cube just… vanished!"
Fury stared at the screens. Disbelief flickered in his eye.
"Impossible."
He personally inspected the chamber. Energy barrier intact. Door locks untouched. Not even dust disturbed.
Yet the Tesseract had simply disappeared.
"Investigate!" Fury's voice was steel.
"Every person, every log, every entry/exit record—even if an ant crawled in, I want to know!"
Agents scattered. The entire facility went to maximum alert.
Above S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters In the Clouds
Yang Jian hovered high above, idly toying with the Tesseract in his palm, a playful glint in his eye.
"Fury must have a massive headache right now."
He tried channeling its power directly—nothing. It remained dormant.
Fine. Random teleportation wasn't ideal anyway—he didn't want to accidentally get flung to the edge of the universe.
"System, any items that can stabilize Tesseract usage?"
[Ding! System Mall has been opened] [Host may browse and redeem required items]
A semi-transparent panel unfolded before him, listing countless bizarre items.
[Ordinary Saiyan Bloodline (1800 points)] [Doraemon's 4D Pocket (180 points)] [Infinity Gauntlet Necklace (100,000 points)] [Kryptonian Tech Suite (20,000 points)] [Goro Goro no Mi – Thunder Fruit (300 points)] …
"Infinity Gauntlet Necklace?" Yang Jian's eyes locked on it.
[Infinity Gauntlet Necklace] [Function: Internal pocket dimension; safely embeds and channels Infinity Stone energy] [Note: Wear it and become the shiniest guy around]
"Not bad. That's the one." He nodded—then frowned.
"But… 100,000 points?"
He checked his balance: only 1,000 points.
"System, what about my previous mission rewards?"
[Host has completed two missions.] [Total points earned: 1,000.] [Reminder: More missions will be issued soon. Please wait patiently.]
Yang Jian shook his head. No way he was buying something that expensive.
He didn't need to.
He closed the mall.
As Silver Superman, his super intellect could figure out plenty. Worst case—he'd just "think really hard" and make it work (俺尋思之力 mode).
For now, he needed to check if Earth had any other Stones.
With a flash, he vanished into the sky.
...
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters – Monitoring Room
"Director! We've checked every feed—nothing abnormal!" The tech chief's voice trembled.
Fury's face was thunderous.
The Tesseract couldn't just vanish.
Someone had taken it.
His eye narrowed. His mind raced.
Who?
