Chapter 112 - Kagura Sees Black-Haired Inuyasha

While Kagome and Sango were clearing demons in the air, the battle between Kagura and Kōga below was also nearing its end.

Without the boost from the Shikon Jewel shards, Kōga's speed could no longer close the distance between them. The entire fight had become completely one-sided.

The prolonged battle had caused the wounds that had just been bandaged to split open again. Blood soaked through the wrappings, and the combined exhaustion of his stamina and demonic power made his movements increasingly sluggish. Each attempt to dodge Kagura's attacks became more and more desperate.

"You're really annoying!"

Kagura looked at Kōga—covered in blood yet still stubbornly trying to approach her like an unkillable cockroach. A flash of irritation crossed her eyes.

Her demonic power surged.

She swung her folding fan sharply.

Countless pale wind blades shot forward instantly, sealing off every possible escape route for Kōga.

"Kagura!"

At that critical moment, Kagome's shout cut through the sky.

An arrow blazing with the sacred power of a shrine maiden shot forward like a meteor. It tore straight through Kagura's storm of wind blades.

The pale blades shattered instantly under the purifying energy.

The arrow didn't slow down. Every trace of demonic aura along its path was completely purified as it shot directly toward Kagura's face.

Feeling the terrifying power within the sacred arrow, Kagura's expression changed drastically.

At the crucial moment, the surrounding demons rushed forward to block the attack.

Though they turned to ash instantly, they bought her a brief moment to breathe.

Kagura twisted aside in a clumsy dodge. Even so, the arrow's spiritual energy grazed her right arm.

The sleeve of her gorgeous kimono shredded instantly, and the exposed skin burned with sharp pain.

"Damn it!"

In that instant of pain, the Shikon Jewel shards she was gripping slipped from her hand.

"It's mine!"

Kōga, who had just been saved by Kagome, saw the shards fall. His eyes flashed. Ignoring his injuries, he rushed toward them immediately and reached out to grab them.

"Dance of the Dragon Serpents!"

Seeing him recklessly attempt to steal the shards, Kagura's anger flared. Ignoring the pain in her arm, she swung her fan again.

Several tornadoes roared to life and slammed into Kōga.

"AAARGH—!"

Already severely wounded, Kōga had no strength left to dodge.

Not only did he fail to grab the shards, but the tornado struck him directly.

Wind blades tore at his body as his scream echoed miserably across the battlefield.

"Kōga!"

Hearing the scream, Kagome immediately raised her bow, ready to fire another sacred arrow to save him.

"Not this time, little girl!"

Kagura noticed her movement and shouted angrily. She waved her fan repeatedly, unleashing countless wind blades toward Kagome and Sango in the air.

"Kirara, dodge!"

Sango shouted while throwing Hiraikotsu, smashing several wind blades apart.

Kirara twisted and darted through the air nimbly, avoiding the remaining attacks. But the maneuver ruined Kagome's aim.

All she could do was watch helplessly as Kōga continued screaming under the assault, unable to rescue him.

Whenever they tried to approach, Kagura commanded nearby demons to attack in coordination with her wind blades, repeatedly forcing them back.

Kagome and Sango could only search anxiously for an opening.

"Wait—no! Inuyasha!"

Kagome was just about to fire another arrow when she caught sight of a figure running toward the battlefield in the distance.

It was Inuyasha—still without his demonic power.

She immediately lay flat on Kirara's back and cried out in alarm.

"Inuyasha…"

Sango saw him as well, her face full of shock.

At that moment, the first rays of dawn broke across the horizon.

Soft light cut through the darkness and shone over the battlefield.

Kagome and Sango instinctively glanced toward the horizon.

The sky was already turning pale.

"Morning… the new moon is ending. Inuyasha's about to become a half-demon again…" Kagome murmured with both relief and worry.

She turned toward Inuyasha, who still looked completely human.

"But before his demon power returns… if anyone sees him like that…"

Meanwhile, the raging tornado slowly faded.

The severely injured Kōga collapsed helplessly on the ground.

Kagura looked up at the growing light in the sky and realized the night was almost over.

She looked down at the barely breathing Kōga and said coldly,

"You're stubborn, Kōga. Wasting so much of my time… I'll put you out of your misery."

She raised her fan high and brought it down.

A massive tornado formed from countless wind blades descended straight toward Kōga.

"Kōga!"

Seeing this, Kagome drew her bow without hesitation and fired an arrow in a desperate attempt to stop the attack.

"Useless!"

Kagura sneered and swung her fan again. A pale wind blade shot out and struck Kagome's arrow directly.

The hurriedly fired sacred arrow shattered the wind blade, but it was torn apart as well, failing to stop the tornado.

BOOM—!

The tornado slammed violently into the ground.

Wind blades ripped through soil and stone, sending dust and debris everywhere and completely blocking everyone's vision.

"Kōga!"

Kagome and Sango cried out together, their hearts tightening with anxiety.

Several minutes later, the wind blades gradually subsided and the dust slowly settled.

Both of them stared at the spot where Kōga had fallen, their hearts in their throats.

"Did I kill him?" Kagura wondered.

The next second, her eyes widened in shock.

When the dust cleared, Kōga's body was nowhere to be seen.

Instead, a figure in a red fire-rat robe stood in his place.

But what shocked her wasn't that Inuyasha had saved Kōga.

It was his appearance.

His black hair hung loosely around his face.

The dog ears on his head were gone.

He was clearly in human form.

Just as she froze in surprise, a powerful wave of demonic energy erupted around him.

The black hair quickly faded back to silver.

His fluffy dog ears reappeared.

His gaze sharpened instantly.

But that fleeting glimpse of his human form had already confirmed it.

She hadn't imagined it.

"Kagura, what's the point of bullying a cowardly wolf like that?"

Inuyasha rolled his wrist casually, a confident grin spreading across his face.

Before another word could be said, he drew Tessaiga in a flash and pointed the blade straight at Kagura.

"From now on, I'll be your opponent!" he shouted.

"Did Kagura see Inuyasha's human form?" Sango asked worriedly as she watched the fully restored half-demon below.

"…She probably did," Kagome nodded, her eyes fixed on Inuyasha's back.

From their position in the air, they had seen everything clearly.

When the dust cleared, Inuyasha had still been human.

Kagura's mind instantly connected several clues.

Naraku's strange condition the previous night.

Kikyo's words that Naraku, as a half-demon, would lose his power at a certain time.

And last night had been the night of the new moon.

Her eyes narrowed.

"Inuyasha… on the night of the new moon, do you lose your demonic power and become human?" she asked bluntly.

"So what if I do?"

Inuyasha lifted Tessaiga, his eyes sharp.

"As long as my power returns, I'll be the one who wins!

"Kagura, before I cut you down, answer one question. What did you go to Kikyo for?"

"Oh? Didn't Kikyo tell you?"

Kagura paused briefly before smiling provocatively.

"If you want to know, go ask her yourself."

Before Inuyasha could swing his blade, she tossed the feather from her hair into the air.

A fierce gust of wind instantly lifted her.

Kagura landed lightly on the giant feather and flew rapidly into the distance.

"Damn it! Don't run!"

Inuyasha roared angrily as he watched her disappear.

After waiting all night to regain his demonic power, he hadn't even managed to swing his sword once before his opponent escaped. The frustration nearly made him explode.

Kagura glanced back once at the furious Inuyasha below.

Then her eyes shifted to Kagome—dressed in strange clothing—who was checking Kōga's injuries.

Will the one who kills Naraku be Inuyasha… and that girl Kagome? she wondered silently.

The sacred arrow Kagome had fired earlier had allowed her to truly feel the terrifying purifying power it carried.

Even Naraku might not survive a direct hit from something like that.

Kikyo's reincarnation…

She remembered Naraku mentioning Kagome's identity before, along with the faint caution in his tone whenever he spoke of her.

Kagura raised her hand, feeling the wind flowing freely through her fingers.

Her eyes shone with longing for the future.

I hope you'll help me… obtain true freedom.
