Chapter 40 - doing a lot

Yuna:

Yuna adjusted the straps of her shopping bags and walked toward the exit of the boutique.

The soft bell above the glass door rang as she pushed it open.

For a moment, she felt a little disappointed.

She had really liked that dress.

More than that… she had imagined Ethan seeing her in it Tommorow.

But it was fine.

She took a small breath and stepped outside into the busy shopping street.

"Miss—!"

A voice called behind her.

Yuna stopped and turned around.

The shop assistant from inside the boutique was walking toward her quickly, holding the black dress package.

"Miss, please wait!"

Yuna looked confused.

"Yes?"

The assistant held out the package.

"You forgot this."

Yuna blinked.

"No… I didn't. I didn't pay for it."

The assistant smiled politely.

"You can take it."

Yuna frowned slightly.

"But I told you I couldn't pay right now."

"That's alright," the assistant said calmly.

"Our boss already paid for it."

Yuna froze.

"…What?"

For a second she thought she misunderstood.

"The payment has been completed, miss,"

the assistant repeated kindly.

"Our boss covered the purchase."

Yuna's confusion deepened.

"Your boss?"

She didn't know anyone here.

Who would suddenly pay for her dress?

"Who is your boss?" she asked.

Before the assistant could answer—

A slow, steady sound echoed from behind her.

Footsteps.

Firm.

Calm.

The kind of footsteps that naturally made people move aside.

Yuna turned.

Her eyes widened slightly.

Ethan.

He was walking toward them, his tall figure dressed in a dark suit. His expression was calm as always, but his presence immediately drew attention.

People nearby were already glancing at him.

Yuna stared at him in surprise.

"What are you doing here?"

Ethan stopped in front of her.

His dark eyes briefly moved over her outfit before returning to her face.

"I came to pay for your dress."

Yuna blinked.

"You… what?"

The assistant bowed slightly toward Ethan.

"Sir."

That small gesture made Yuna realize something.

Her gaze shifted slowly between the assistant and Ethan.

Then back to Ethan again.

"Wait…"

Her voice lowered slightly.

"Don't tell me…"

Ethan took the dress package from the assistant and placed it in Yuna's hands.

His voice was calm.

"I'm the boss."

Yuna stared at him.

"The boss… of this store?"

Ethan glanced around the boutique briefly.

"Not just this one."

Yuna's mouth parted slightly in disbelief.

"The entire shopping district?" she asked.

"Most of it," he replied simply.

For a moment she didn't know whether to laugh or feel embarrassed.

"So you saw my payment fail?" she said slowly.

Ethan didn't answer directly.

His eyes moved to the shopping bags she was holding.

"You bought a lot."

Yuna crossed her arms slightly.

"I used to shop like this all the time."

Ethan's gaze softened for just a second.

"I know."

She looked up at him again.

"But why did you come here personally?"

Ethan looked at her for a moment before answering.

"Kai showed me your picture."

Yuna blinked.

"My picture?"

"You posted it."

Then his voice lowered slightly.

"And half the people in the store were staring at you."

Yuna felt her cheeks warm a little.

"So… you rushed here because of that?"

Ethan didn't respond.

But his silence was enough of an answer.

Yuna looked down at the dress package in her hands.

Then back at him.

A small smile slowly appeared on her lips.

"You didn't have to pay for it."

Ethan's voice was calm.

"I wanted to."

Then his eyes narrowed slightly.

"And next time, if you need money…"

He paused for a second.

"…call me."

Yuna looked at him quietly.

For someone who kept saying he didn't love her—

He was doing a lot for her.

And she noticed every single detail.
