Chapter 44 - don't ignore my calls

Yuna:

The drive back home was quieter.

Yuna sat in the driver's seat again, her hands lightly on the steering wheel. The city lights passed by in soft streaks, but her mind was still stuck on Ethan's words.

"Obsessed… for twenty years."

She stole a quick glance at him.

Ethan was looking out of the window, calm as always, like he hadn't just said something that turned her entire world upside down.

"You're not going to explain anything, right?" she asked softly.

"Not tonight," he replied.

She sighed.

"Fine… but I'm not forgetting this."

"I didn't expect you to."

The car slowed as they entered the mansion gates.

---

Inside the house, the lights were still on.

The moment they stepped into the living room—

Luca was already there.

Standing.

Waiting.

His expression wasn't calm.

"Where were you both?" he asked immediately.

Yuna paused for a second, then spoke casually,

"I went shopping."

Luca's eyes shifted to Ethan, then back to her.

"Shopping?"

She nodded.

"And I ran out of money, so Ethan helped me."

Luca's expression changed instantly.

His tone sharpened.

"Why didn't you ask me?"

Yuna blinked at his sudden anger.

"I did call you."

Luca frowned.

"When?"

"While I was at the store. My card got declined."

She crossed her arms slightly.

"But you didn't pick up."

Luca exhaled and rubbed his forehead.

"I was in a business meeting," he said, his tone lowering a little.

Yuna softened slightly.

"I figured."

There was a brief silence.

Then Luca looked at her again.

"Why are you out of money in the first place?"

Yuna hesitated for a moment, then answered honestly.

"I spent everything I had."

Luca stared at her.

"…Everything?"

She nodded slowly.

"I wasn't working… and I didn't realize how fast it was going."

Luca sighed deeply.

"You should've told me."

Yuna looked at him.

"I didn't want to depend on you for everything."

"You're not 'depending'," Luca said firmly. "You're family."

His voice softened slightly.

"You can ask me anytime."

Yuna smiled faintly.

"I know."

Luca looked at Ethan for a brief second.

"And you," he said, his tone turning serious again, "you don't need to solve everything for her."

Ethan met his gaze calmly.

"She needed help."

"That's not the point."

"It is to me."

The tension between them was subtle but present.

Yuna quickly stepped in.

"Okay, stop."

Both of them looked at her.

"I'm the one who ran out of money," she said. "So this is my fault."

Luca sighed again, his anger fading.

"Just… be careful next time."

Yuna nodded.

"I will."

Then she added lightly,

"And don't ignore my calls."

Luca gave her a look.

"I won't."

There was a small pause.

Then Luca glanced at Ethan again.

"You were out for a long time."

Yuna spoke before Ethan could.

"We had lunch and dinner."

Luca raised an eyebrow.

"Lunch.. and dinner...?"

"And a little walk," she added casually.

Ethan didn't correct her.

Luca studied both of them carefully.

But this time, he didn't say anything.

"Go get some rest," he said finally.

Yuna nodded.

"Goodnight."

She turned and started walking upstairs.

But before she reached the stairs, she paused and looked back.

Ethan was still standing there.

For a brief second, their eyes met.

Then she smiled softly and continued upstairs.

Meanwhile, Luca remained where he was.

His gaze slowly shifted to Ethan again.

Silent.

Watchful.

Like he knew—

This was only getting more complicated.
