Chapter 61 - you both got hurt

Yuna:

Yuna rested against the pillows, her breathing finally steady after everything that had happened.

The room was quiet again.

But this time—

It wasn't heavy.

It felt… safe.

Her fingers were still loosely holding Ethan's hand, as if letting go might make everything disappear again.

For a moment, she just watched him.

Then suddenly—

Her expression changed.

"…Ethan."

He looked at her immediately.

"What?"

"Where is Luca?"

The question came softly, but there was clear concern in her eyes.

Ethan didn't answer right away.

"He's in the hospital," he said finally.

Yuna's brows furrowed.

"The hospital?"

She looked around the room again.

The soft lighting.

The luxurious interior.

The silence.

"…Where am I then?" she asked, confused. "Isn't this a hospital too?"

Ethan shook his head slightly.

"No."

She blinked.

"Then… what is this place?"

Ethan leaned back slightly in his chair, his gaze still on her.

"This is my private hospital."

Yuna stared at him.

"Private… hospital?"

He nodded.

"A penthouse facility. Not open to anyone."

Her confusion deepened.

"…Not open to anyone?"

Ethan's voice remained calm.

"Not even Luca."

That made her sit up a little straighter despite her weakness.

"What do you mean not even Luca?" she asked, surprised. "He's your—"

"I know who he is," Ethan interrupted quietly.

Yuna looked at him carefully.

"Then why can't he come here?"

"Because this place isn't meant to be accessed," he said. "Only a few trusted doctors and staff are allowed. Security here is tighter than anywhere else."

She looked around again.

Now it made sense.

The silence.

The isolation.

The guarded feeling.

"…So I'm the only one here?" she asked softly.

Ethan nodded once.

"And me."

A small pause.

Yuna lowered her gaze slightly.

"…You brought me here alone."

"Yes."

Something about that made her chest feel warm—

But her concern returned just as quickly.

"What about Luca?" she asked again. "Why is he in the hospital? What happened to him?"

Ethan's expression didn't change much.

But his voice lowered slightly.

"He got shot."

Yuna froze.

"…What?"

Her fingers tightened around his hand.

"Shot?"

Ethan nodded.

"In his shoulder."

Her eyes widened.

"Because of… that place?"

"Yes."

Her breathing became uneven again.

"No… no, I should go see him," she said quickly, trying to move. "He was already worried about me and now—"

The moment she tried to get up—

Ethan's hand gently but firmly stopped her.

"You're not going anywhere."

Yuna looked at him.

"I have to—"

"No."

His voice wasn't loud.

But it was absolute.

"You're not in a condition to move."

"I'm fine," she insisted, even though her body clearly disagreed.

"You're not," he said calmly.

She frowned.

"He got hurt because of me, Ethan."

Ethan's gaze sharpened slightly.

"He got hurt because of the situation."

"It's the same thing!" she argued.

"No, it's not."

Silence fell between them.

Yuna's eyes filled with worry.

"I need to see him," she whispered. "What if he's in pain… what if—"

"He's alive," Ethan said firmly.

She stopped.

"He's being treated. The bullet didn't hit anything critical."

Her breathing slowed slightly.

"…Are you sure?"

"Yes."

She searched his face.

Trying to find any doubt.

But there was none.

Ethan didn't lie about things like this.

She exhaled slowly, her shoulders relaxing just a little.

"…Okay."

But her grip on his hand didn't loosen.

"Still… I want to see him," she added softly.

Ethan watched her for a moment.

Then said,

"You will."

Her eyes lifted.

"But not now."

She hesitated.

"…When?"

"When you're better."

Yuna looked down again.

Her body still felt weak.

Heavy.

Even sitting like this was taking effort.

She knew he was right.

But it didn't make it easier.

"…He must have been so scared," she whispered.

Ethan didn't respond.

But he knew.

Because he had been too.

Yuna slowly leaned back against the pillows again.

Her eyes closing briefly.

"…You both got hurt because of me."

Ethan's voice came immediately.

"No."

She opened her eyes.

"It's true."

"No, it's not."

She looked at him.

Then said quietly,

"If I wasn't there… none of this would have happened."

Ethan leaned slightly closer.

His gaze steady.

"If you weren't there," he said, "I wouldn't have gone."

She blinked.

Caught off guard.

"And if I didn't go," he continued, "nothing would have been resolved."

She didn't know what to say to that.

"…So don't blame yourself."

His tone wasn't soft.

But it wasn't cold either.

It was… certain.

Yuna looked at him for a long moment.

Then slowly—

She nodded.

"…Okay."

A small silence followed.

Then she asked quietly,

"Is there really no way I can see him now?"

Ethan sighed faintly.

"Not tonight."

She pouted slightly, still worried.

"You're strict."

"Yes."

She sighed again, but this time there was a faint smile hidden in it.

"…Fine."

She leaned back properly this time, her body finally giving in to exhaustion.

Her fingers still held his hand.

"…You're not leaving, right?"

Ethan looked at her.

"No."

Her eyes slowly began to close.

"Good…"

Her voice faded softly.

And within moments—

She drifted back into sleep.

Ethan sat there beside her.

Still.

Silent.

Watching over her.

Just like before.
