Chapter 112 - congratulation you're pregnant

Yuna:

Yuna froze the moment Ethan stepped inside, his presence filling the space in a way that instantly made everything feel more intense. For a brief second, she just looked at him, her expression unreadable—then something shifted in her eyes, something firm, almost defensive. "Ethan… go back," she said, her voice not loud but clear enough to cut through the silence.

He didn't move. His gaze stayed locked on her, studying her face, her posture, the distance she had suddenly created. "I told you I didn't want anyone right now," she added, a faint edge creeping into her tone. "Didn't you understand that?" The words landed harder than she intended, but she didn't take them back. Ethan's expression didn't change immediately, but something in his eyes tightened. He stepped a little closer, his voice lower now, more controlled.

"What happened to you?" he asked. "Why are you treating me like this?" There was no anger in his tone—just confusion, something quieter beneath it. "Did I do something wrong?" Yuna shook her head quickly, letting out a soft sigh as she looked away. "No… you didn't," she said, her voice softer now, almost tired. "I just… I want to hang out with Elena for a while. That's it." The explanation sounded simple, but it didn't fully explain the shift in her behavior.

Ethan's gaze didn't leave her. "I can come too," he said, as if it was the most natural solution. But Yuna immediately shook her head again, this time more firmly. "No," she said, meeting his eyes again. "I only want to go with Elena." The words hung in the air for a moment. Ethan looked at her, really looked this time, as if trying to read something deeper than what she was saying. But whatever he saw—or didn't—he didn't argue. He just gave a small nod. "Alright," he said quietly. "Take care." And just like that, he stepped back, giving her the space she had asked for, even if it clearly didn't sit right with him.

Yuna didn't say anything else. She simply turned toward Elena, and the two of them walked out together. The elevator ride was quiet at first, the soft hum filling the space as they descended. Yuna leaned lightly against the wall, her mind racing now in a way she couldn't control. By the time they reached the parking area and got into the car, Elena couldn't hold back anymore. "Okay, what is going on with you?" she asked, starting the engine. "Your mood, your behavior—you're acting completely different." Yuna stared ahead, her fingers fidgeting slightly in her lap.

"I don't know," she admitted honestly. Elena frowned, thinking. "Vomiting, dizziness… cravings," she listed slowly, glancing at her. Then her expression shifted, something clicking in her mind. "Wait…" she said, her voice changing. "Isn't that… symptoms?" Yuna blinked, turning toward her. "What symptoms?" Elena hesitated for just a second before asking carefully, "When was your last period?" The question hit harder than anything else that night.

Yuna froze. Her mind went blank for a second as she tried to recall. Then her eyes widened slightly. "…I think I missed it," she said slowly. Silence filled the car. Then suddenly—"Let's go to the hospital," Yuna said, her voice urgent now, a mix of shock and something else she couldn't quite name. Elena didn't argue. She just nodded and pressed the accelerator, the car moving quickly through the streets.

At the hospital, everything felt surreal. Yuna walked inside with Elena beside her, her heart beating faster with every step. She approached the doctor, her voice steady but her hands betraying her slight nervousness. "I want to take a pregnancy test," she said. The process felt longer than it actually was. After everything was done, the doctor told her to wait for an hour. That hour felt endless.

Yuna sat there, her thoughts spinning—memories, possibilities, fear, curiosity—all tangled together. Elena stayed beside her, unusually quiet, letting her process. Finally, her name was called. Yuna stood up, her steps slower now as she walked into the doctor's room again. The doctor looked at her with a small smile. "Congratulations," she said gently. "You're pregnant." The words echoed in Yuna's ears.

For a second, she just stared, unable to react. "It's been about seven days," the doctor added, handing her the report. Yuna took the paper with slightly trembling hands, her eyes scanning the words as if to confirm they were real. Pregnant. She was pregnant. When she stepped out, Elena immediately stood up. "What did the doctor say?" she asked. Yuna didn't speak. She simply handed her the report. Elena looked down at it—and her eyes widened instantly. "Yuna…" she whispered, shocked.

Yuna suddenly broke into a smile, bright and almost childlike despite everything. "I'm pregnant," she said, her voice filled with disbelief and excitement. "Ethan will be so happy when he finds out." Elena looked at her, still processing, then back at the report. "Will he?" she asked carefully. But Yuna nodded without hesitation. "Of course," she said. "He'll be really happy." And for the first time that night, her smile felt genuine.

They walked out of the hospital together, the cool air hitting them as everything began to settle in. Back in the car, Yuna leaned back, her hand unconsciously resting on her stomach again. "I want something sweet," she said suddenly, her tone lighter now. Elena glanced at her, still half in shock but managing a small smile. "Of course you do," she said, starting the car again.

"Let's go to the mall." The drive felt different this time—lighter, yet filled with anticipation. Yuna looked out the window, her thoughts already racing ahead, imagining Ethan's reaction, imagining what this meant for her life. The confusion, the fear—it was still there somewhere, but right now, it was overshadowed by something new. Something unexpected. Something that changed everything. And as the car moved toward the bright lights of the mall, one thing was certain—nothing from this moment on would ever be the same again.

The mall was bright and alive, a complete contrast to the heaviness of the night they had left behind. Yuna walked beside Elena with a strange new energy, her earlier weakness almost forgotten under the excitement bubbling inside her. The moment they stepped into the sweets section, Yuna's eyes lit up in a way Elena had never seen before.

"This one… and that… and that too," Yuna said, pointing rapidly, barely giving Elena time to react.

Elena raised an eyebrow. "Are you serious right now?"

Yuna nodded enthusiastically, already picking out boxes. Different pastries, chocolates, cakes, candies—she didn't stop. By the time they reached the counter, they had nearly thirteen or fourteen different types of sweets.

Elena couldn't help but laugh softly. "You really changed overnight."

Yuna just smiled, almost glowing. "I don't know why… but I want all of it."

They sat down nearby, opening the boxes one by one. Yuna tasted everything, her expressions shifting from curiosity to pure delight. "This is so good," she said between bites, completely unlike her usual self who would've complained about too much sugar.

Elena watched her, still amused but also thoughtful.

After they finished, both of them slightly overwhelmed—but Yuna satisfied—they headed back to the car. The night felt calmer now, quieter, as Elena started the engine and drove toward home.

Yuna leaned back in her seat, her hand resting lightly on her stomach again, a small smile forming on her lips.

"Elena…" she said softly.

"Hmm?"

"Ethan's birthday is in three days," Yuna continued, her eyes bright with a new idea. "Let's keep this a secret."

Elena glanced at her briefly. "A secret?"

Yuna nodded, her smile widening. "I'll tell him when he cuts the cake. It'll be a surprise."

Elena paused for a second… then smiled slightly.

"That's… actually perfect."
