"No," I growl, the word vibrating in my chest. "Cane, tell me that isn't what I think it is."
My wolf doesn't answer. He simply settles, his heavy presence retreating into the back of my mind with a smug, silent curiosity.
I look toward the backseat. Tucked into the footwell, partially obscured by a discarded leather jacket, is a car seat. And inside it, a bundle of tangled blankets is shaking.
I don't move. I stare at the kid like he's a live thermal detonator. "How the hell did he get in here? All this while we've been arguing, Lucian was probably still here. Did he intentionally abandon his kid with me? Like, for real?"
Twenty months old. What the hell am I supposed to do with that?
"You were planning on leaving him inside the house, weren't you? Lucian is pretty smart for a Rake who has abandoned his own child," Cane whines.
"Shut up," I snap at the pile of blankets.
