No one else seems to notice the shift in Vivian's expression, but because I've spent so much time relying on lip-reading, I catch every word. Fear has clearly gripped her; she refuses to even glance back.
"Enjoy your dusty books, human. I'll be waiting for you this afternoon. Don't make me come looking for you," Rafe says, as he hauls Lucian up from the ground by his collar.
"Now that I'm hurt, brother, would you take care of Liam for me?" Lucian mutters, leaning into the injury.
A loud thud follows. Rafe drops him right back where he found him and walks away without a second glance.
"Rafe, you're being ridiculous! Come back!" Kate calls after him. "Are you seriously walking off with her?"
He ignores her, his spine ramrod straight as he follows Vivian. I don't yet understand the hold she has over them, but until I do, I'll keep this encounter to myself. Honestly, I figure I can handle Vivian on my own.
