"I can't believe this is happening," Mila jumps excitedly, in awe as she looks out the tiny window. She turns back to me, taking in the dress Kate forced me into with wide eyes. "I can't believe this." She looks from my face to the dress before snatching up the hem of the skirt and inspecting it. "It's beautiful! This is my first ever ball — same goes to you, right? I can't wait to see what it feels like to be in a fucking ball! Those rich folks at Oceania be bragging about the night all day."
"I'm not as excited as I thought I would be," I sign, gesturing to the dress.
"You will be fine," she pats my shoulder with a pitiful look.
"Told you," Kate says before leaving the room.
From the window of my room, you could see the ball venue at a distance. The light from there illuminates the entire darkness of the night. There certainly are a lot of people. Despite how early it is, the streets are teeming with men, women, and children, all gawking at each other as they pass.
