Chapter 123: Lightning Release: Chidori Current
"Me?!" Naruto pointed at his nose in surprise. "I've never infiltrated another Village before!"
"This mission is vital; we must ensure nothing goes wrong," Byakuya said firmly. "So, you must go."
"Alright..." Naruto sighed and nodded helplessly.
"Besides Naruto, I'll send two more people to act with you," Byakuya said. "Yamato, you're responsible for protecting Naruto; Shino and Choza, you're responsible for gathering intelligence."
"Yes!" the three said in unison.
"The mission time is set for one week from now. During this period, you must stay in contact with me at all times," Byakuya continued.
"Understood!" The three turned to leave. "So, what's next?" Just as they stepped out of the wooden hut, they were suddenly attacked by a mysterious force. A dark shadow flashed, instantly pushing them back into the hut.
"Who is it?!" The three immediately assumed defensive stances.
"Hee hee hee... Greetings, Ninjas of Konoha!" a cold voice came from the darkness.
"Who are you?!" Yamato demanded.
"Me? You can call me 'Kōdo'," the voice said. "I'm here to tell you some news—the 'Akatsuki' organization has already begun its move against Konoha!"
"The 'Akatsuki' organization?!" The three looked at each other.
"That's right," Kōdo's voice rang out again. "And our target isn't Konoha, but..."
At this point, Kōdo's voice suddenly vanished. Simultaneously, a powerful force erupted from the hut, knocking the three back several steps.
"It seems they've discovered our tracks," Yamato said in a deep voice. "We must report to Hokage-sama immediately!"
However, when the three returned to Konoha, they found the Village plunged into darkness—all power was gone!
"What happened?!" Naruto asked in surprise.
"Not sure," Yamato shook his head. "But this situation is very unusual."
Meanwhile, elsewhere in Konoha, Kōdo and Sora watched all this coldly.
"Are you ready, Sora?" Kōdo asked.
"Of course," Sora nodded. "I can't wait to avenge my father!"
"Very well," a cold smile curved Kōdo's lips. "Then, let us begin!"
With a wave of Kōdo's hand, a black power surged from his body, instantly surrounding the entire Konoha.
"What is... this?!" Yamato looked around in surprise. "We're trapped!"
"It seems they were well-prepared," Shino said solemnly. "We must find a way to break this Barrier!"
However, regardless of how they tried, they couldn't break the defensive Barrier Kōdo had created.
"This is bad..." Choza's brow furrowed. "If we can't break this Barrier, we won't be able to go out for help..."
"Hmph, don't waste your energy," Kōdo's voice came from all directions. "This Barrier was specifically created to trap you; it's impossible for you to break it."
"That's not necessarily true!" Naruto suddenly shouted, his Nine-Tails mode instantly activating. "I definitely won't be trapped here!"
"Oh? Then let me see your strength!" Kōdo sneered, waving his hand as the black power converged into a giant palm and struck at Naruto!
"Naruto, look out!" Seeing this, Yamato immediately rushed forward to block the giant hand. However, at that moment, Sora suddenly appeared behind them, lightning power gathering in his hand.
"Lightning Release: Chidori Current!" Sora shouted, striking Yamato and Naruto with lightning!
"Yamato, get out of the way!" Shino yelled urgently. But it was too late; the lightning had already hit them!
"Damn it..." Yamato struggled to get up from the ground. "We can't go on like this..."
"Asuma-sensei!" Just then, a familiar voice came from the distance. Everyone looked up to see Asuma arriving with Shikamaru, Ino, Choji, and the others!
"Asuma-sensei! Why are you here?!" Naruto asked in surprise.
"We sensed Konoha's crisis, so we came," Asuma said solemnly. "And I've discovered even worse news—The Four of the former Twelve Guardian Ninja have been revived again through Kōdo's Reincarnation Jutsu!"
"What?!" Everyone was shocked. "Weren't those four already defeated by us?!"
"Kōdo used a secret technique to revive them," Asuma said. "And their strength is even greater than before!"
"It seems Kōdo's purpose is to use them against us," Yamato said in a deep voice.
"Not only that," Asuma continued, "Kōdo also plans to use the Lightning Release Four's Ninjutsu to burn Konohagakure to ashes!"
"What?!" Sora was shocked to hear this. "He... he wants to completely annihilate Konoha?!"
