Chapter 17 - 17. The Might of Excalibur

◉◉◉◉◉

"ROAAAAARRR—!!"

Vritra's remnant soul howled in agony.

Its curse-born essence and draconic core were being torn apart.

"Relax," Anos said calmly, golden blade blazing in his hand. "This ends now."

Holy light condensed along the length of the simulated sword, compressing to a terrifying density.

At the moment it peaked—

It erupted.

"Ex…calibur!!!"

A torrent of radiant starlight surged forward, a golden beam intent on erasing every trace of evil before it.

Where the blast struck Vritra's soul—

It burned.

Like fabric thrown into white flame.

The dragon's spiritual body dissolved layer by layer.

After more than ten seconds—

Anos released Sacred Overclock Mode.

The gold faded from his eyes, returning to black.

The simulated holy sword shattered into particles of light.

He exhaled sharply.

"…Still too much."

Fine cracks had opened along his skin. Thin trails of blood marked the cost.

The processor had overclocked.

The hardware had paid the price.

"But this is the final step."

Vritra was at his weakest.

One more barrage of Est-class curse-cleaving blades would erase him completely.

Anos could force it—

At further damage to himself.

But that wasn't the objective.

He didn't need annihilation.

He needed suppression.

"Go."

With the same financial recklessness as before, he threw out another formation plate.

[Three-Lives Soul Suppression Array]

A formation specialized purely for sealing spiritual entities.

He had designed it long ago.

Today, it found its purpose.

Under its pressure, Vritra's remnant soul began to compress.

Shrink.

"ROA—!"

The dragon roared in defiance, attempting one last backlash against the human who dared challenge dragonkind.

"Pointless."

Anos had already calculated this outcome while in Overclock Mode.

"Tenfold Convergence."

The Tenfold Absolute Seal began contracting rapidly, reducing from a massive layered construct into a compact reinforcement surrounding the suppression array.

The countless starlike lights scattered around Vritra—

Each one had been a subsidiary formation node.

Layer upon layer.

Now they are compressed into a unified prison.

"Rooo…"

The roar weakened.

Then fell silent.

[Ding!]

[Silver-tier treasure chest opened.]

[Reward obtained: Super-Class Sacred Gear — World Dragon's Jewel.]

[World Dragon's Jewel: Capable of absorbing and assimilating draconic power. Grants dominion over dragon-kind. Within this small jewel may reside the limitless power of the World's Dragons.]

"…Interesting."

Anos' eyes narrowed slightly.

"Judgment, can Vritra's remnant soul be absorbed by the World Dragon's Jewel?"

[Yes.]

"Then let's proceed."

A silver gem manifested over his chest.

The World Dragon's Jewel did not belong to the Biblical system.

It was not aligned with Heaven.

It belonged—

To his own framework.

Under its silver radiance, Vritra's remnant ceased struggling entirely.

The dragon soul was drawn inward, seamlessly absorbed into the Jewel.

"Effective."

The Sacred Gear's suppression effect on dragon entities was obvious.

Anos' first instinct wasn't awe—

It was an analysis.

Could the mechanism be reverse-engineered?

Transferred to formations?

Scaled?

Mass-produced?

His thoughts were already moving.

"Time to leave."

Before departing, he prepared one final measure.

[Five-Domain Void Array]

The battlefield shimmered—

Then vanished.

An entire section of the Underworld terrain was shifted into the Dimensional Gap.

Erased.

No lingering battle aura.

No evidence.

If the Underworld accused him of ecological destruction—

So be it.

His principle remained unchanged:

Until capable of handling nearly every scenario—

Stay hidden.

Kuoh Academy.

After resolving Vritra's remnant, Anos returned to campus.

"President? School was dismissed today."

Tsubaki looked at him in surprise.

"Dismissed?"

He paused, then nodded faintly.

Of course.

After an incident of that scale, a temporary closure was inevitable.

Sona and Rias would be handling containment and cleanup to prevent normal civilians from discovering the supernatural.

"Yes, Vice President Sona and President Rias have already returned home. You didn't receive the notice?"

"I did… apparently."

He checked his phone.

There it was.

An official message from Kuoh Academy administration.

He hadn't seen it.

During combat, his phone had been entirely irrelevant.

He had tossed the entire battle zone into another dimension.

A notification wasn't exactly a priority.

"Well," he shrugged lightly, "since I'm here, I may as well handle tomorrow's work."

Diligence was habitual.

Unfortunately—

The universe seemed determined to interrupt him.

"Ah! It's you!"

A familiar voice rang out from the distance.

"Descendant of the Kamen Rider!"

Anos froze.

He knew that voice.

Slowly turning—

He saw the blonde girl approaching.

"…."

That was fast.

And being labeled a "descendant of the Kamen Rider" was deeply embarrassing.

Tsubaki's usual composure cracked.

She stared at Anos.

Silently.

Very directly.
