Chapter 16 - Her.

The throne room stretches as Abel walks forward. The air grows heavier with each step, and the light fades around him.

There are only torches to light the way for him

A low growl cuts through the silence.

He stops.

More follow. Deeper. Closer.

Figures from the shadows begin to appear.

Crimson wolves step out from the darkness.

Their large bodies stay low, claws scraping against the stone. Their eyes lock onto him as their mouths open and red mana gathers inside.

"…Alright."

One vanishes and appears in front of him, claws swinging.

Abel shifts slightly.

It misses.

Another comes from behind. He steps aside.

Miss.

More rush in at once, trying to overwhelm him.

Abel watches for a second, then exhales.

"Ok, I've had my fun, your turn."

Besides him, a flicker of blue man's starts to gather, they start to take shape.

The figure takes the shape of a woman.

She wears a black bodysuit wraped around her, a jacket over it with the hood up. Black hair barely shows.

Her eyes are mismatched—one red, one blue.

She lowers her head slightly.

"…You called."

"Handle them."

"…Understood."

The wolves move instantly, all at once. She disappears the moment they do, turning into a streak of blue.

The first wolf jumps, but a cut appears across its neck before it lands. It takes two steps, then collapses.

Another rushes from the side. She turns and slices across its face, making it stumble. She steps in and cuts again. It drops.

Two attack together. She moves between them, her body low as her daggers flash. One loses a leg and falls. The other swings, but she leans back just enough for it to miss. She steps forward and drives her blade into it. It stops moving.

The remaining wolves spread out. Their mouths glow brighter before firing blasts of red mana toward her.

She moves forward instead of back. Her daggers glow faintly blue as she swings. The blasts split cleanly, then bend and get pulled into her blades. They vanish.

The wolves hesitate for a moment.

She moves.

A blur passes through one. A cut appears. It falls.

Another charges. She blocks, steps aside, and cuts its side. It drops instantly.

One jumps from behind. She throws a dagger without looking. It sinks into its eye. Before it can react, she's already there, pulling the blade free and cutting its neck.

Three remain. They slow down, watching her now.

One attacks. She blocks, but it pushes her back slightly. The other two move at the same time. She steps away, but a claw catches her sleeve and tears it slightly.

She stops and faces them.

They circle.

Then they attack together.

She moves faster.

Her form flickers, almost disappearing. One swings and hits nothing. She appears behind it and stabs. It drops instantly.

The second turns. She blocks and cuts its leg, making it fall.

The last charges straight at her.

She waits.

At the last moment, she steps forward into its range. Both daggers move at once.

The wolf stops.

Then falls.

Silence returns.

The bodies lie still across the ground. She stands there, her blades dripping before the blood slowly fades and gets absorbed into them.

She turns and walks back to Abel, stopping beside him.

"…Done."

Abel looks at the bodies for a moment, then nods.

"…Good."

She stays quiet. Her form flickers once, then stabilizes again. He notices.

"…Not stable yet."

"…I know."

He prompts her to kneel in front of him.

He puts his hand on her shoulders. "Even weakness can become strengths. Put that 'glitch' of your to good use."

She smiles. "Thank you."

He smiles back.

-----

This woman was the maid who had died back at the party. Her body is being kept in the family tombstone.

Abels parents though this was only fair, after all, this was their daughters farewell party, they should have made sure to check absolutely everybody at the party.

The maid suffered for their mistake.

The moment the maid had died, she had pondered what had just happened? how did she die? Who killed her? Why her? What was their purpose in all of this?

Abel could sense her lingering emotions and after the party, he went to visit the tombstone.

"Do you want revenge."

The maid heard a call from the darkness.

Who was this?

"If you pledge to serve me for the rest of your life, I will help you get your revenge in turn."

A blue screen appeared before her.

[ Yes/No ]

'Abel, as in the young master.'

What did he have to do with this.

She was still so confused. But earlier he had out and asked if she wanted revenge.

Maybe, someone had orchestrated her death. When the thought rose, it infuriated her.

She wanted to kill the people who had killed her.

"Yes."

A light shone from above, as bright as the sun, before it completly engulfed the endless darkness in its light.

When she came to she found her self in front of Abel who was wearing his pajamas.

He was simply just smiling at her.

She tried to stand but she felt her body flicker and she fell right back down.

"Guess I made a few mistakes," Abel muttered.

Abel looks deeper into the throne room. The darkness stretches further ahead.

"…We move."

He starts walking again.

"Let's go, Astra."

She follows, one step behind him, silent as the air grows heavier and something deeper inside begins to stir.

'Can't wait to see what the boss is'
