Goku's fist connected with Broly's face — and Broly went tumbling across the ground for several rolls.
After knocking Broly back, Goku caught himself and turned his head toward the Supreme Kai, momentarily speechless.
"Goku — I just helped you hold him in place!" The Supreme Kai said cheerfully, calling over.
Goku: ...
SMACK!
Old Kai clouted the Supreme Kai on the back of the head and rounded on him in a furious tirade. "You idiot! They were sparring — could you not tell?! Do you have nothing better to do?!"
The Supreme Kai rubbed his head, face going red, and quickly apologized. "I'm sorry — I couldn't tell! I thought an enemy had broken into the Sacred World!"
Goku quietly wiped a bead of sweat from his temple and immediately looked over at Broly.
Broly did a kip-up and sprang back to his feet.
"Sorry about that, Broly." Goku said with a slight wince. "The Supreme Kai didn't know what was going on... why don't you take a free shot at me to make it even."
Goku walked over and held his head out toward Broly.
Broly: ...
"Not necessary. Let's just keep going." Broly shook his head.
"Alright, works for me." Goku nodded, not pushing it.
The two resumed their battle.
A few more exchanges in, Goku deliberately let himself slow by half a step — and took a punch from Broly that put him flat on the ground.
"That squares us." Goku grinned from where he lay.
Broly studied Goku for a moment. He found this person genuinely interesting.
"Right then — let's go, Broly. Transform into Super Saiyan." Goku said, feeling that the base-form exchange hadn't quite satisfied him.
CRACK!
Golden light blazed from Goku's body as he shifted into his Super Saiyan transformation.
The sight of it didn't particularly surprise Broly.
He'd already seen Gohan and Trunks transform earlier. This was familiar ground.
"I'd rather not." Broly rubbed the back of his head, clearly reluctant.
"Why not?" Goku blinked.
"When I transform... I lose my mind." Broly said plainly.
"You lose your mind?" Goku paused.
"Yes. I can transform like you — but I lose all rational thought." Broly nodded. "It happened on Frieza's father's planet. I accidentally transformed and ended up killing his father."
Goku: ...
"Lord Old Kai." Goku turned to look over at him. "Do you have any way to help Broly stay in control of himself?"
"Hmph — don't bring every problem to me. Something like this — what would I know?" Old Kai shot Goku a flat look. "If he wants to stay in control, he needs to get there through his own training."
"Is it because you can't control such enormous power... that you lose rational thought when you transform?" Goku mused, rubbing his chin.
"That's probably it." Broly nodded.
"Alright — transform, then. I'll see if I can find a way to bring you back." Goku said, his expression settling into something more serious.
"You can bring me back to my senses?" Broly's face brightened.
"We can try. I'm confident there's a way. The two gods standing over there are the greatest in this entire universe — between them, they'll figure something out." Goku grinned broadly.
The Supreme Kai: ...
Old Kai: ...
So it's not you solving it — you're putting it on us.
"Alright. I'll try. But stay well back." Broly took a long, deep breath. His energy began to build without restraint.
CRACK!
Broly's body grew — expanded — a full size larger.
The Wrathful Form.
In that instant, Broly activated the raw power of his Great Ape state contained within his humanoid body.
Immense energy poured outward from him in every direction, spreading like a tide.
"Wait — that's not a Super Saiyan transformation... What kind of form is this?" Goku scratched his head, genuinely puzzled.
But Broly had already gone quiet. His pupils had turned white and blank. Rational thought was gone.
"Goku — careful. He's already lost control!" The Supreme Kai's face changed. He called out the warning urgently.
"Got it." Goku nodded, his expression sharpening.
Broly turned his blank gaze toward the Supreme Kai. The image of being held in place earlier floated through what remained of his awareness — and his teeth bared in something between a snarl and a grimace.
The Supreme Kai swallowed. A bad feeling arrived without invitation.
Whoosh!
Broly locked onto the Supreme Kai's position and launched himself toward him at terrifying speed.
The Supreme Kai: ...
Wait — your opponent is Son Goku. Why are you coming at me?!
"Broly — I'm your opponent!" Goku wiped his forehead in exasperation.
So losing your mind means forgetting who you're supposed to be fighting?
"Run!" Old Kai barked the order — and was already gone, vanishing around a corner at impressive speed.
The Supreme Kai's mouth twitched.
Kibito also fled immediately.
"No good!" The Supreme Kai panicked and, on pure reflex, thrust both palms forward again.
The invisible divine force washed over Broly.
And then — nothing further came of it.
The Supreme Kai's power doing anything to Broly at this point was about as effective as trying to tickle him. It didn't stop him in the slightest.
GRAB!
Broly's massive hand shot out and seized the Supreme Kai by the head.
The Supreme Kai looked up at Goku with an expression of complete and total despair.
"Broly — let the Supreme Kai go, he's not who you're fighting!" Goku broke into a sprint, golden light exploding from his body.
BOOM!
Broly used the Supreme Kai's head as a battering ram and drove it straight into Goku's chest.
Goku grunted in pain and responded by driving a kick into Broly's side.
Broly didn't so much as flinch. He reached up, grabbed Goku by the head, and brought the two skulls together.
CRACK.
Both Goku and the Supreme Kai saw stars.
Then Broly grabbed the Supreme Kai by the ankle and began swinging him — forward, back, left, right — without stopping.
The Supreme Kai: ...
A thousand thoughts and none of them acceptable to print.
I was just watching! I didn't ask to be part of this!
Though I suppose I did accidentally paralyze him earlier.
But this seems excessive!
BOOM — BOOM — BOOM!
Broly kept swinging the Supreme Kai's body like a club, striking it repeatedly.
The Supreme Kai's screams rang out in a continuous, pitiful stream.
Goku launched himself up from the ground and charged back at Broly.
THUD!
Broly used the Supreme Kai's body as a shield again and drove it into Goku's frame.
Goku: ...
The Supreme Kai had begun to genuinely consider whether this day would be his last.
You two wanted to fight — why am I involved?!
CRACK!
Goku threw a sharp uppercut and caught Broly directly under the chin.
The impact jarred Broly enough that his grip on the Supreme Kai loosened.
Goku seized the moment — darted forward, caught the Supreme Kai — and Instant Transmitted.
In one blink, Goku materialized beside Old Kai, Kibito, and the still-fleeing Supreme Kai's landing spot.
"Kibito — treat the Supreme Kai, quickly!" Goku called.
Kibito: ...
Poor Supreme Kai — reduced to this state by a human.
How strong have humans gotten?
They've completely surpassed us gods.
Without hesitation, Kibito stepped forward and released his healing light over the Supreme Kai.
Goku Instant Transmitted back to Broly's side.
But the moment he returned, Broly was already on him — a barrage of punches and kicks hit Goku from multiple directions before he could settle.
For a stretch of frantic exchanges, Goku could only block and redirect.
After several rounds, Goku finally found the rhythm of Broly's attacks and began to match them — steady and composed.
But what genuinely stunned Goku was this:
Broly's power seemed to have no ceiling. With every passing moment of the fight, his energy kept rising.
At first, Goku's Super Saiyan form had held reasonably well against Broly's Wrathful state.
But as the fight went on, even Super Saiyan was beginning to feel the strain.
CRACKLE — CRACKLE—
Goku ignited Super Saiyan 2. That held Broly's storm at bay.
"Incredible, Broly!" Goku said with genuine admiration. "You're not even at Super Saiyan yet and you're already this strong. Once you transform into Super Saiyan... I have a feeling even Super Saiyan 3 might struggle."
BOOM — BOOM — BOOM!
Goku began to push back, landing hits that made Broly bare his teeth, eyes turning sharper and more feral.
"AAAAAAH!"
Broly had been pushed far enough. A roar tore through him. His power hemorrhaged outward in an unrestrained flood — and the ground beneath them shook with the force of it.
Old Kai, the Supreme Kai, and Kibito all stared in stunned silence at the energy radiating from Broly.
"Now I understand how he managed to beat Frieza." Old Kai said quietly.
"That was far too close. He almost killed me." The Supreme Kai pressed a hand to his chest, still not fully recovered.
Old Kai gave him a look of weary exasperation.
"Goku... can he win this?" Kibito's mouth twitched.
"I'd be skeptical." Old Kai shook his head. "Going by energy output — Broly has the clear advantage."
"Then what do we do?" The Supreme Kai's color shifted through several shades.
"This idiot Goku... does he want to rip my Sacred World apart?" Old Kai was shaking with anger.
CRACK!
Broly's entire body erupted into golden fire. His Super Saiyan transformation finally ignited.
Power poured from him in a boundless, seemingly endless surge.
Feeling the weight of Broly's energy, Goku was stunned to his core.
No wonder he beat Golden Frieza.
The sheer scale of what Broly is putting out — it's on a different level.
This is bad. I don't think Super Saiyan 3 can handle this.
Without another moment of hesitation, Goku shifted — and Super Saiyan 3 blazed to life around him.
Golden hair cascading past his shoulders. Brow ridges deepening and prominent.
"Come on, Broly!" Goku settled into his stance.
Broly let out a war cry and shot forward as a streak of gold.
SLAM!
Goku lined up the timing and drove a punch straight into Broly's face.
Broly staggered for just a moment — and then reached out, clamped his massive hand down on top of Goku's head.
Goku: ...
You really are fond of grabbing people's heads.
What followed was entirely predictable to anyone who'd met Broly before.
Broly pressed Goku's head into the ground and dragged him across it without mercy.
Goku's muffled screams echoed. He drove a knee upward into Broly's kidney.
Broly's jaw clenched — but the hand didn't stop. He kept right on grinding.
Goku felt fairly certain his skull was being reshaped.
But rather than breaking his spirit, it only made him more excited.
At last — a real opponent. Better than anything Frieza ever offered.
For Goku in this moment, the pain was almost secondary to the pure, electric thrill of it.
CRACK!
Broly sent an elbow into Goku's chest.
Goku spat bile and went rigid.
Broly grabbed him by the ankle, swung him through the air, and began slamming him — left, right, forward, back — in a rhythmic, relentless pattern.
Goku's screams came in waves.
After several more rounds, Goku was clearly losing ground — looking increasingly overwhelmed, no longer matching Broly stroke for stroke.
Broly swung Goku for a solid minute before finally launching him straight up into the sky.
Then Broly opened his mouth, and a beam of light condensed between his lips.
WHOOSH!
A mouth blast fired from Broly — rocketing upward toward where Goku was suspended, leaving a golden trail across the sky.
Goku quickly righted himself. He saw the blast coming and instinctively moved to form a Kamehameha to meet it.
"Idiot! You want to fire a Kamehameha right here?! Do you want to destroy the entire Sacred World?!" Old Kai bellowed from below, furious.
"Don't worry, Lord Old Kai — I know what I'm doing!" Goku called back — and fired.
WHOOSH!
The Kamehameha came streaking downward and collided head-on with the mouth blast.
Two massive columns of energy met and began to grind against each other — shockwaves radiating outward in layered, expanding rings.
"AAAAAAH!"
Goku poured everything he had into the beam.
Broly opened his mouth wider, doing the same.
The two streams of power locked — churning, straining, refusing to yield.
"Go help him!" Old Kai ordered the Supreme Kai.
The Supreme Kai: ????
Lord Grand Supreme Kai, you want me to jump in there?
At that level of output I'd be instantly killed.
"How am I supposed to help?" The Supreme Kai stared, helpless.
"Force his mouth shut. No open mouth, no beam." Old Kai said impatiently.
The Supreme Kai: ...
That is... not a bad idea, actually.
"Fine — I'll try." The Supreme Kai steeled himself and moved toward the clash, gritting his teeth.
"Supreme Kai — do NOT interfere with our fight!" Goku called out urgently. "If you stop it now, Broly will never recover his reason!"
The Supreme Kai ground to an immediate halt. He looked at Old Kai helplessly and spread his hands.
The look in his eyes said it all: I'm not refusing to help — Goku won't let me.
"This idiot — the energy balance is clearly in Broly's favor and he keeps hanging on. What is he holding out for?" Old Kai muttered through gritted teeth, trembling with agitation.
"AAAAAAH!"
Goku's output kept climbing.
Broly's jaws stayed open, his beam blazing.
Back and forth they went, neither conceding.
After several more exchanges, Goku made a calculation — his energy was clearly running short against Broly's inexhaustible supply. He made a decisive move: maxed his output in a single burst, then Instant Transmitted — appearing directly behind Broly in the same instant.
WHOOSH!
The moment Goku reappeared behind him, Broly's mouth blast rushed upward unchallenged — and Goku's Kamehameha surged up to meet it.
The two colliding beams screamed into the upper sky, leaving a blinding streak of light before vanishing into the distance.
CRACK!
Goku drove a kick into Broly's skull — connecting hard enough to send him stumbling forward and nearly pitching over.
But Broly righted himself almost immediately and came back at Goku — punches and kicks flowing without pause.
Goku blocked and shifted, working with the attacks as they came.
As time went on, the effort was clearly mounting.
What stunned Goku most was that Broly's energy simply kept rising — constant, unceasing, like a tide that would never go out.
Early on, Super Saiyan 3 had given Goku a slight edge.
But now, in terms of raw energy output, Super Saiyan 3 was nowhere near Broly's level.
Goku marveled — and felt an even deeper thrill.
What an opponent.
BOOM — BOOM — BOOM!
Under Broly's relentless pressure, Goku gave ground step by step, pressed to the edge of what he could sustain.
"Goku is going to lose this." Old Kai sighed, shaking his head with quiet astonishment.
This Broly is too much.
Goku is a reincarnate. He fought his way back to his peak.
And even he can't put away a Broly.
Could it be... is this Broly also a reincarnate?
Surely not.
Goku reincarnated — fine. Frieza reincarnated.
Now Broly is reincarnated too?

When the fight had been going for more than thirty minutes —

The energy fueling Goku's Super Saiyan 3 finally gave out. The golden light collapsed. He dropped back to base form in an instant.
Broly's energy, on the other hand, hadn't dropped at all. It was still climbing.

Goku stood there, genuinely stunned.
How can any Saiyan be this strong?
I thought I had recovered to my peak.
And I can't even beat Broly.
"It's over. Goku has lost." Old Kai sighed and shook his head gently.
"Should we go help?" The Supreme Kai asked.
"Ask him." Old Kai replied.
The Supreme Kai: ...
A brief silence.
The Supreme Kai was about to call out from a distance and ask Goku if he wanted assistance.
But before he could get a single word out, Old Kai struck him on the head, driving the sound back before it could escape.
"Fool — don't shout over here. You'll draw Broly's attention. He still hasn't recovered his mind!" Old Kai hissed.
"Ah... right..." The Supreme Kai crept carefully toward the battle, keeping low, and materialized near the two combatants.
"Supreme Kai... get out of here. It isn't safe." Goku caught a glimpse of him and quickly urged him away.
"I mean — do you want help? Because it looks like you're about to get killed." The Supreme Kai said, caught somewhere between concern and disbelief.
"No need!" Goku waved him off.
The Supreme Kai was at a complete loss.
You're waving me off while being beaten to a pulp.
"I honestly have no idea what you're holding out for." The Supreme Kai gave up trying to understand. "And since you said you don't need me — I'm going."
With that, the Supreme Kai immediately retreated — not wanting to be in Broly's line of sight a moment longer than necessary.
CRACK!
Broly seized Goku by the ankle again, swung him through every direction with renewed force, and then drove him into the ground hard enough to crater it.
He stepped forward, reached down, grabbed Goku by the throat, and lifted him into the air.
At this point, Goku looked completely spent — hanging limp in Broly's grip, no longer struggling.
"Unbelievable... Broly, I've lost." Goku said with quiet admiration.
But Broly had long since left rational thought behind. His pupils were white. There was nothing in his eyes except the fight itself.
Broly's right hand closed into a fist. He drew it back and aimed it directly at Goku's head.
"This is bad..." Goku's color drained completely.
If that punch lands, my skull is not going to survive.
Broly didn't hesitate. The fist came down.
Goku's eyes went wide.
In the final fraction of a second, Goku had no choice — he opened his mouth and bit into Broly's hand.
"Gah—"
Broly recoiled from the unexpected pain, loosening his grip just enough — and dropped Goku.
Goku hit the ground hard.
In the next instant, Broly's massive foot rose and came stomping down directly toward Goku's midsection.
*Unacceptable — my whole body feels like it's in pieces... *
Goku rolled frantically across the ground, barely keeping ahead of each stomp.
BOOM — BOOM — BOOM!
Broly's foot crashed down again and again, each impact leaving a deep pit in the ground of the Sacred World.
Goku rolled and kept rolling — but Broly was right behind him.
Broly raised his foot one more time and brought it down squarely toward Goku's most sensitive region.
Goku: ...
"Broly — don't do that — if you stomp there I won't be able to... use the bathroom." Goku cried out, panicking.
But in that critical instant, he couldn't avoid it.
From a distance, Old Kai, the Supreme Kai, and Kibito watched with expressions of mutual horror, their bodies trembling in unison.
If that gets crushed... that's probably going to hurt quite a lot...
CRACK!
With a dull, heavy impact — a deep, bottomless pit appeared in the ground.
"That's it... Goku's... gone." Old Kai sighed.
The Supreme Kai and Kibito both twitched involuntarily.
Poor Goku. Why did you have to go and challenge Broly?
You made him lose his mind, and now how are you going to sort this out?
"Lord Grand Supreme Kai! Lord Supreme Kai! Look — over there!" Kibito's eyes suddenly brightened. He pointed toward Broly and Goku.
Old Kai and the Supreme Kai both snapped their attention toward the spot — and what they saw stopped them cold.
Goku was not, in fact, buried in the earth.
He hadn't been crushed as they'd feared.
Instead —
Goku was hanging upside down from Broly's arm.
And when they looked more carefully — a thick, furry tail had grown from Goku's spine.
That tail was wrapped around Broly's arm, and it was what had saved him.
"A tail — Goku grew a tail!" The Supreme Kai exclaimed.
"Well, well..." Old Kai breathed, visibly moved, his excitement boiling over as he rubbed his hands together and hopped on his heels with barely contained energy.
"Even with a tail, Goku can't beat Broly." Kibito shook his head, not particularly optimistic.
After all, Goku was already completely burned through.
And Broly's energy was still rising — boundless and monstrous.
"Just watch." Old Kai said, practically bouncing. "The real fight hasn't started yet."
"The real fight hasn't started?" The Supreme Kai blinked, not following.
All he has is a tail. His disadvantage hasn't changed.
Broly was wheeling around, searching for Goku's location.
Goku, for his part, had also only just noticed — he was hanging from Broly's arm.
He looked again, more carefully.
And then he saw it.
His tail had grown back.
Just like before — pushed to the edge, and the tail comes back.
Goku felt a flood of disbelief and joy.
He loosened his tail, dropped from Broly's arm, and landed steady.
Broly spotted him and came surging forward again.
"Hold on, Broly — let me transform first!" Goku threw up both hands and jumped back to open some distance.
Broly had no intention of holding on. He accelerated.
Whoosh!
Goku flickered upward and appeared high in the sky.
Broly spun, scanning every direction.
Up above, Goku was barely containing himself — written across his face was sheer, incandescent joy.
"My tail is back. It's finally back!" Goku clenched his fists with everything he had. The tail swung back and forth behind him with a life of its own.
Below, Broly was still searching.
Goku drew a long, deep breath, and his voice rang out across the Sacred World —
"Super Saiyan 4 — TRANSFORM!"
And his body began to change.
