"Mum, I trained with Dad inside a special room — one year inside equals one day outside. The room is at the Temple above Korin Tower." Trunks answered honestly.
"Ah, that explains it." Bulma nodded in understanding.
The group chatted for a few minutes more.
"Breaking news — a report on the Androids!"
At that moment, a broadcaster's voice crackled over the radio.
Everyone fell silent to listen.
"The Androids have been spotted in the southern mountain region. Residents of the southern mountain area are urged to evacuate immediately."
"The southern mountains? They've gone that far?" Trunks frowned.
"Mountains?" Vegeta paused slightly.
"What is it?" Bulma asked.
"Nothing." Vegeta shook his head and clapped Trunks on the shoulder. "Let's move — we deal with those two Androids as fast as possible."
"Yes, Dad!" Trunks replied, his voice grave.
"We'll head out now, Bulma." Vegeta turned to her to say his goodbye.
"Hold on — Goku still hasn't come back. Wait for him." Bulma's chest tightened with worry.
"Hmph. No need." Vegeta gave a cold snort. "They're just two Androids."
He turned and pushed the door open and walked out without another word.
"We'll be back with good news, Mum." Trunks went over and held her for a moment, speaking softly.
"Please be careful — all of you!" Bulma called after them, still not at ease.
"Don't worry, Mum. Dad and I are already far stronger than those two." Trunks smiled with confidence.
Just as the three were about to set off —
Goku appeared from nowhere via Instant Transmission, with Dende in tow.
"Goku!" Bulma's face lit up with surprise and delight at the sight of him.
"Hm? Bulma?" Goku stared blankly at her. He barely recognised her, and the words came out before he could stop them: "What happened to you?"
"I've got old, haven't I?" Bulma gave a helpless sigh, a faint blush on her cheeks.
"Don't worry about it, Bulma." Goku smiled. "I brought Dende back — once the Dragon Balls are restored, everything will change."
"Gohan!" Dende looked at Gohan with eyes full of excitement.
"You're..." Gohan could not place him at all.
After all, Dende had grown up — and Gohan still looked exactly as he had as a child.
"Gohan, it's me — it's Dende!" Dende's excitement bubbled over.
"Dende? You're really Dende?" Gohan's face broke into a grin. He stepped forward and grabbed his hands.
"It's really me." Dende nodded hard.
"You're so grown up now." Gohan marvelled.
"It's been so many years..." Dende said quietly, a bittersweet note in his voice.
"You're going to be Earth's new Guardian — that's amazing!" Gohan was beside himself.
Vegeta glanced at Dende and said nothing.
He had known all along that Kakarot would more than likely bring a Namekian called Dende back with him. Nothing surprising about it.
"Mr. Goku, we've got the Androids' location — we're heading out to eliminate them now. Are you coming?" Trunks asked.
"I'll sit this one out." Goku shook his head. "I'm taking Dende to the Temple. With any luck, we'll have the Dragon Balls restored soon. Dende says the friends we lost should all be revivable."
In Goku's eyes, any one of Gohan, Vegeta, or Trunks could handle those two Androids with ease. There was no reason for him to pile on.
"Alright... Mr. Goku. This world finally has a chance." Trunks felt a wave of joy wash over him. It felt as though the world was on the verge of something completely new.
"Let's go." Vegeta dropped those two words and launched himself into the sky.
Trunks and Gohan called out their farewells to Goku and Bulma, then shot upward after him.
The three flew off at full speed toward the Androids' location.
"Bulma, do you still have a Dragon Radar around?" Goku asked.
"I do — though it's been gathering dust for ages. Should be fine." Bulma went off to look for it.
After a short search, she came back and handed it to Goku.
"Perfect. With this, I can find the Dragon Balls." Goku took it eagerly, eyes lighting up.
He waved goodbye to Bulma and headed off with Dende toward the Temple.
"We'll make a stop at Korin Tower first." Goku said, and guided Dende inside.
The tower was blanketed in a thick layer of dust. Korin was long gone.
Goku knew he had been killed during the Androids' rampage.
"Even Korin..." Goku murmured under his breath.
Dende stood in silence beside him.
"Let's go." Goku let out a quiet sigh and led Dende out of the tower, flying upward.
"I can fly on my own, Mr. Goku." Dende smiled.
"Oh — right." Goku nodded and let him go.
The two flew upward at speed and arrived at the Lookout.
The Lookout was in the same state as Korin Tower — sealed away by years of dust and neglect. The buildings looked worn and weathered.
"Mr. Popo isn't here either?" Goku glanced around, a deep feeling of loss settling over him.
"Mr. Goku, let's focus on reviving the Dragon Balls first." Dende offered.
"You're right." Goku nodded.
"Do you have a clay model of the Dragon?" Dende asked.
"Um... Popo used to handle that kind of thing... I'm not sure where he'd keep it." Goku peered into the rooms nearby and fixed his gaze on Mr. Popo's quarters. "That's Popo's room. Let me take a look."
Goku stepped inside.
A moment later, he emerged with a Dragon figurine, blew the dust off it, gave it a good wipe with his gi, and held it out to Dende.
"What a cute dragon!" Dende's face lit up.
"You can restore the Dragon Balls right now, can't you?" Goku asked.
"That's right." Dende nodded, placed the figurine on the ground, held out both hands toward it, and began to chant softly.
A few seconds passed.
The figurine blazed with light.
Whoosh!
A golden pillar of light erupted upward and shot into the sky.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
The next instant, the golden column split into seven streaks of light that scattered in every direction across the world.
Goku immediately pressed the button on the Dragon Radar.
Seven blinking dots materialized on the screen at once.
"Dende — the Dragon Balls are back!" Goku barely contained his excitement. "I'm going to go find them. As for here... I'll have Trunks and Vegeta come help you clean up."
"I don't mind doing it myself." Dende smiled. "Go ahead, Mr. Goku — take care of what you need to."
"Got it. I'm off." Goku wasted no more time and set out immediately to find the Dragon Balls.
Southern Mountain Region. A small town.
BOOM!
A world-shaking explosion tore through the town, sending rocks flying and filling the air with dark smoke and dust.
Crash! Crash! Crash!
Android 18 hurled energy blasts like she had an infinite supply, sending them crashing into the town's buildings one after another — each impact producing a new explosion that rang out without end.
"Just because you lost at a video game — do you really need to throw this big a tantrum?" Android 17 watched from nearby with cool detachment, smiling faintly.
"Save it." Android 18 let out a dismissive snort and kept unleashing energy without stopping.
"Damn it!"
A middle-aged man lay in the rubble, straining to raise a handgun he had picked up, pressing it to 17's head.
Bang!
He pulled the trigger. The bullet shot forward at tremendous speed and struck Android 17 squarely in the cheek.
Android 17 turned his head slowly and looked at the man with cold, flat eyes.
Injury: negligible. Insult: significant.
The man's expression collapsed into despair.
So the rumours were true — these monsters can't even be killed by bullets.
"You shot me?" Android 17 said, and unhurriedly drew his own handgun from his hip, levelling it at the man's head. "Let me return the favour."
Bang!
Android 17 pulled the trigger and blew the man's head clean off.
"17 — we've had our fun with this town. Let's move on." Android 18 said, casting a glance over at him.
But as she turned to look, Android 18 noticed three golden streaks of light suddenly crossing the sky, and her eyes widened.
"Yeah — time to go. You've wrecked this place so badly there's nothing left to play with." Android 17 smiled with a faint, unsettling amusement, and nodded.
"17, look — what's that?" Android 18 pointed at the sky behind him.
Android 17 turned. He was caught slightly off guard, and muttered, "That's Trunks... and the other two are Vegeta and Gohan?"
As Vegeta and his group drew closer, Android 18 made out Vegeta and Gohan as well, and felt a flicker of confusion.
"Vegeta? Gohan?" Android 18 blinked, tilting her head. "Didn't we already kill those two? And — is that little kid really Gohan? Why does he look so small? Why's he shrunk?"
"Whatever that Bulma woman's been up to in her lab, who knows." Android 17 smiled. "Perfect timing, though — we'll take out all three of them at once."
"You're right. Not one of them walks away this time." Android 18 nodded.
The three descended from a distance, landing near the Androids.
"So it's Trunks — and the other two are Vegeta and Gohan?" Android 17 asked with a grin.
"Hmph." Vegeta responded with a single cold snort and nothing else.
These opponents are so weak they're beneath my notice.
Trunks can wipe the floor with them on his own.
This is the perfect chance for Trunks to show off in front of Gohan.
You chose to tag along yourself, Gohan. Don't blame anyone else.
"Gohan, how did you get so small? And how did you come back to life?" Android 18's curiosity got the better of her, and she looked at Gohan with a catlike smile.
"Hmph. None of your business." Gohan's expression was ice cold. His eyes were full of hatred.
"17, 18 — your time is up." Trunks's voice was heavy. He clenched both fists.
"Trunks — do you really think bringing two extra people makes you a match for us?" Android 17 sneered. "Have you forgotten how they died? Even if they've come back to life, I'll kill them all over again."
"They're only here to watch. Taking you both out — I can handle that alone." Trunks smiled coolly, and golden light burst from his body as he transformed — Super Saiyan.
"You... what did you just say? You can take us both out alone?" Android 17 burst out laughing. "Trunks, you're dreaming! We know everything about your power level. No matter how hard you try, you can't beat us!"
Whoosh!
Trunks flickered, and in an instant he was directly in front of Android 17.
Android 17's eyes went wide. He was floored.
What? How did his speed jump like that?
Thud!
Trunks drove an uppercut straight into Android 17, launching him hundreds of metres into the sky.
Android 17 tumbled through the air end over end, head spinning, with dozens of little stars swimming before his eyes.
When he finally stabilised himself, his eyes were full of shock.
What is happening?
Trunks just sent me flying with one punch?
Android 18 was shaken to her core, utterly unprepared for 17 to fold that quickly.
"Hey, 17 — pull it together!" Android 18 called out in alarm. "If you get killed, who am I supposed to go smash things with?"
"Trunks — you have officially crossed a line!" Android 17 roared with fury, glaring down at him.
But when 17 looked back toward Trunks, he found that Trunks had quietly vanished.
Where did he go?
He was just there—
"17 — he's right behind you!" Android 18 screamed.
"What?!" Android 17 turned his head mechanically — and found Trunks materializing directly behind him.
Trunks stared at him with cold eyes, murder blazing in every blink.
Crack!
Trunks drove a bicycle kick straight into Android 17's head.
Android 17 plummeted straight down from the sky.
BOOM!
His body cratered into the ground — instant death.
The kick had connected squarely with 17's head. Under that much force, there was simply nothing left to endure.
Trunks, at this point, was in terms of power nearly equivalent to Super Saiyan 2.
Android 17 lay at the bottom of the crater, completely still.
Trunks was not satisfied that the job was done. He aimed at the spot where 17 lay and fired an energy blast directly into it.
BOOM!
Android 17's body was blown to pieces. There was nothing left of him.
Android 18 stood completely frozen, her face white as a sheet.
"What did you just do?" Her voice was trembling.
"Hmph. You're next." Trunks said coldly.
"You... don't — stay back, stay back!" Android 18 stumbled backward in panic, raising her arms in a defensive stance.
Trunks stepped forward, and held his hand out at close range directly in front of her chest.
"What are you—?!" Android 18 was completely terrified.
BOOM!
Trunks showed not a trace of mercy. Energy erupted from his palm and poured directly into her at point-blank range.
The explosion reduced Android 18 to nothing.
With that, the two Androids of this future world were effortlessly wiped out by Trunks.
"Trunks, you were incredible!" Gohan cheered, clapping enthusiastically.
"Master Gohan..." Trunks scratched his head sheepishly.
"Hmph — that's my son!" Vegeta allowed himself a proud smile, then swept his gaze around the area. Something about this spot felt strangely familiar — he could not help but frown.
"Dad, what's wrong?" Trunks asked, blinking.
"There's another threat — something that will be a serious problem for this future." Vegeta's mouth curved into a faint smile.
"A serious threat? A problem?" Trunks was not following.
"I can sense it — there's something incredibly dangerous nearby." Vegeta's voice dropped low.
"Who is it?" Trunks looked alarmed.
"Who is it, Uncle Vegeta?" Gohan asked, equally puzzled.
"Let's go see." Vegeta said, and without another word launched himself into the air.
Gohan and Trunks exchanged a glance and followed.
Vegeta flew forward around ten kilometres and came to a sudden stop in mid-air, looking down at the mountain range below.
Gohan and Trunks both looked in the same direction — not entirely sure what Vegeta was searching for.
"There!" Vegeta pointed at a specific spot below and dropped down.
Gohan and Trunks stayed right behind him.
Under Vegeta's lead, the three landed beside a pink egg nestled on a high cliff face.
The egg was tucked in an extremely hidden position, surrounded on all sides by dense vegetation.
The cliff itself was sheer and nearly vertical — you would have to be able to fly to reach it. Even a jet aircraft would have no business coming to this area.
The three hovered at the cliff's edge and studied the pink egg.
"What... what is that thing?" Trunks stared.
"I can definitely sense an extremely malevolent ki coming from inside that thing." Gohan's brow furrowed tightly.
Goku had told Gohan about Majin Buu at some point.
But Gohan had never seen Majin Buu in person and did not recognise what this was.
"Just as Gohan says — there is a powerful, malevolent ki sealed within this egg. Leaving it here is a risk that cannot be ignored. It must be destroyed." Vegeta's voice was low and steady.
"Dad, let me handle it! Let me see if I can destroy this egg!" Trunks nodded, expression firm.
Vegeta offered no objection.
As someone reborn with the memories of a previous life, Vegeta knew exactly what this was.
And Vegeta was confident that at his current power level, he could handle Majin Buu without difficulty.
Once I achieve Super Saiyan God, destroying a Majin Buu is nothing.
Vegeta had already made up his mind — since he had come to the future with Trunks, he should at least help his son eliminate some of the threats ahead of him.
And while they were at it, why not use this opportunity to push Trunks to the next level?
As for the fact that Trunks attacking the seal would release Majin Buu — Vegeta had already seen that coming.
"Flash Grenade!"
Trunks blasted energy from his hands, and a powerful surge of force rapidly enveloped the sealed egg.
BOOM!
The blast connected and sent Majin Buu's seal rocketing skyward.
"AAAHH!"
Trunks kept pouring energy in, all of it directed at the seal.
The seal flew higher, and pink smoke began jetting out from the cracks in its surface.
The smoke billowed and drifted, spreading in all directions.
Vegeta looked up at the plumes of pink drifting into the clouds and smiled — wider now.
Come out, Majin Buu.
If you come out good... I might consider letting you live.
But if you're still the same evil Majin Buu — then don't blame me for what follows.
Thud!
Majin Buu's seal came crashing back down from the sky and struck the ground below, leaving a small crater.
Crack!
The seal split clean in two, the two halves rolling apart like empty eggshells.
Trunks and Gohan both looked down at the broken pieces — and found nothing inside.
"Dad, there's nothing in here." Trunks said, confused.
"No..." Gohan's frown deepened. A sudden instinct made him look up immediately. "Something's wrong — look at the sky!"
High overhead, the atmosphere was filling with layer upon layer of pink smoke.
"What... what is that?!" Gohan cried out.
Trunks: "..."
The pink smoke swirled and churned, twisting in on itself.
Pop!
In less than a minute, the pink smoke condensed into a round, pink figure.
Fat Buu — awakened.
The curve of Vegeta's smile crept higher.
"What... what is that thing?" Trunks was dumbfounded.
"I can sense it clearly... whatever that creature is, it carries an overwhelmingly powerful, evil ki." Gohan's expression grew darker.
"Let's land." Vegeta said, and dropped down to the ground.
Gohan and Trunks descended after him.
The moment Buu came into being, the first things he spotted were the three figures below. He broke into a grin, then dropped down from the sky himself.
Landing, Buu squinted and looked each of the three up and down, before settling his gaze on Trunks.
"You were the one hitting me just now, weren't you?" he said, voice flat and cold.
"Who... who are you?" Trunks asked through gritted teeth, hackles up.
"You interrupted my sleep. I'm not letting that slide." Buu ignored the question and stared at Trunks without warmth.
"Hmph. You think I'm afraid of you?" Trunks tightened his fists.
