Robert collected a document from Michael's desk. Just as he was about to make his way to the meeting room to deliver it, his phone began to ring again. When he glanced at the screen to see who it was, he pouted. It was Michael calling from another line. After a moment of hesitation, Robert decided to pick up. As he answered the phone, he walked out of Michael's office.
'Hello, Sir Michael?' Robert was certain the meeting wasn't yet over. So, why was he calling? 'I have the document... will bring it in a moment.'
'Robert, deliver afternoon tea to Chioma.' At the other end of the phone, Michael's voice sounded cheerful, ignoring what Robert said about bringing the document over to the meeting room. He seemed not to care about the report.
'Okay, Sir.' Robert's voice sounded calm even though he was a bit irritated at being tasked with delivering afternoon tea to Chioma. Before he could mention that Chioma had called earlier, Michael hung up the phone.
Reaching the elevator bay, a familiar voice called out from behind. He didn't need to turn to recognise the melodic lilt of Audrey's voice, a sound he had grown accustomed to over time.
'Madam Audrey,' he greeted, turning with a strained smile.
Audrey was dressed in an elegant black and white printed dress, paired with a black blazer and stylish Armani heels. Her wavy hair cascaded down her back, adding to her exquisite appearance. Holding a white Dior clutch in one hand and her smartphone in the other, she exuded a noble and graceful aura, deserving of being a duchess or even a real-life princess.
Observing Robert's demeanour, Audrey smirked and asked, 'Why do I sense your unhappiness? Did your boss assign you to deliver something in the slums?' It appeared that Audrey had overheard Robert's conversation with Michael, though she might not have caught every detail.
Robert sighed, nodding hesitantly. 'Yes, Sir Michael's taste is...' he trailed off, suddenly mindful of Audrey's relation to Michael.
'Weird,' Audrey finished his sentence, a knowing glint in her eyes. 'Love can make us do strange things, wouldn't you agree?' She glanced at her watch. 'Well, I must be off. My brother's still in the meeting, but please let him know I had to head to Maitama Sule Street for a meeting with Kimberly about my handout.' With a final farewell, Audrey swept into the designated elevator and disappeared.
Robert watched her go, then shrugged and turned away, the weight of his unexpected task settling back on his shoulders.
