Chapter 139 - Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Nine

Somewhere in the streets of Abuja, Daniel and Audrey enjoyed their afternoon stroll together. They visited shops, trying on fancy hats and making each other laugh with funny faces. They indulged in various snacks from different stalls, sharing stories and creating joyful memories.

As they walked, the bright sunshine illuminated the scene, adding to the beauty of their love-filled afternoon. Audrey felt so happy that she regretted giving Daniel the silent treatment.

The tantalising aroma of creamy vanilla, sweet strawberry, and playful bubblegum mingled with the laughter spilling from Audrey's lips as Daniel held out a dripping ice cream cone. Its vibrant swirls of pink, white, and pastel hues mirrored the blush creeping up her cheeks.

Daniel savoured a lick of his chocolate ice cream, a mischievous glint in his eyes. 'Ready for a taste test?' he teased, holding the cone precariously close to Audrey's nose.

'Maybe just a tiny one,' Audrey giggled, leaning in and taking a delicate lick. 'Mmm, delicious! You have good taste, Mr. Daniel.'

Every few steps, Daniel would slow down, offering a playful nudge that sent Audrey leaning into him for support, their laughter echoing in the bustling street.

'I'm sorry for not being a good boyfriend,' Daniel apologised sincerely as they enjoyed ice cream during their walk.

Audrey, her heart melting, responded, 'I'm sorry too. I shouldn't have quarrelled with you.'

Daniel chuckled, calling it a lovers' quarrel. Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks and turned to look at Audrey, her face blushing. 'Can I?' he asked, seeking permission.

Audrey, her heart fluttering in her chest, understanding his intentions could only nod shyly, her gaze locked on his.

Daniel leaned down, the space between them closing with a delicious inevitability. Their first kiss was a whisper-soft touch, a spark igniting a fire within them. He pulled her into a hidden corner, his embrace a haven of warmth and security. Audrey had never felt so safe, so cherished.

Daniel spoke softly, his gaze locked with Audrey's. 'I had a girlfriend before,' he confessed. 'We broke up because she cheated on me. I didn't love her as much as I love you. I saw her as someone I could marry to fulfill my parents' desire for grandchildren. When we broke up, I wanted a woman, so I confessed my feelings to Chioma, even though I knew she was already in love with Michael. At that time, Chioma and Michael weren't officially a couple, but from the story Chisom told me about how Chioma and Michael met, I connected the dots and knew they had loved each other from the moment they met… I had always loved her like a little sister. I could have kept her as my girlfriend if she hadn't fallen in love with Michael.' Daniel paused, assessing Audrey's reaction, as if trying to understand her thoughts. 'But when I first saw you, I saw love. With you, I've come to know the true meaning of love. I used to think love was only real in movies, not in reality. But finding you showed me that true love does exist. I love you, Audrey Njemanze.'

He released her from his arms, his gaze still fixed on her beautiful dark eyes. He glanced at her long, flowing, dark hair cascading down her back, captivated by its beauty.

The sound of a street musician playing a love ballad filled the air, adding a touch of magic to the moment. Unable to resist, Audrey wrapped her arms around Daniel's broad shoulders, hugging him tightly. 'I love you too,' Audrey replied, her voice filled with sincerity. As she spoke, the music swelled, further enhancing the atmosphere between them.

'Audrey, you're so beautiful. I'm grateful that you're mine,' Daniel whispered lovingly. He tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, a tender gesture that spoke volumes.

'I love the way you always call me Audrey,' she replied with a sweet smile. Audrey looked truly stunning in her belted blush rose-printed dress, paired with black espadrilles and a rattan clutch. Every detail, from the way the dress flowed to the way her sandals clicked against the pavement, seemed to accentuate her grace and beauty.

'If you like it, I will always call you Audrey. It's a noble and beautiful name, just right for a noble and beautiful woman like you,' Daniel said, pausing briefly before adding a lighthearted joke that he genuinely meant. 'You're more beautiful than Audrey Hepburn. I will always make you the happiest woman in the world.'

'I know you will, Daniel,' Audrey replied, leaning against his side as his strong arm encircled her waist.

It was an incredible feeling to have the man of her dreams see her as the most important person in the world. She felt a surge of happiness and wanted to sing and laugh, knowing that she was the happiest girl in the world.

Daniel's heart fluttered with joy. This was their first kiss, and he felt a deep connection with Audrey. Holding her hand, they walked in silence, both of them smiling at the thought of sharing such a wonderful day together.

After spending a lovely day, they hailed a taxi to head home. Daniel instructed the driver to drop Audrey off at Diamond Gardens before taking him home. As the taxi pulled up in front of the gates, Audrey stepped out.

Reaching the entrance to Diamond Gardens, Audrey turned to face him, a bittersweet pang tugging at her heart. 'Thank you for today,' she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. 'Today has been... perfect,' Audrey said, her smile brightening her face.

Daniel's smile mirrored hers. He hopped out of the taxi, leaving the door open for a moment as he asked the driver to wait for him. Stopping in front of Audrey, he took both her hands in his. 'When can I see you again?' he asked, his voice hopeful.

Audrey's smile widened. Stepping closer, she leaned in and brushed a kiss against his cheek. 'Whenever you want, Daniel,' she replied, her voice barely a whisper, not hesitating to express her desire to spend more time with him.

Daniel smiled, feeling content and overjoyed by her response. 'I don't want to keep you for too long. Go inside.'

Audrey nodded, turning to walk towards the gate. Daniel watched until she was safely inside, a goofy grin plastered on his face, before sliding back into the taxi. He didn't need words; the memory of her touch, the echo of her laughter, was enough. Tonight, even if it wasn't quite nightfall yet, he would dream of Audrey, and the melody of their perfect day.
