Seraphina stood beside the tall window of her office and watched the city below, evening light reflected against the glass towers, turning them gold for a few brief minutes before darkness claimed them. Traffic moved in steady lines far beneath her. People hurried home. Meetings ended. Businesses closed their doors for the day; life continued.
For the first time in a very long time, she felt separated from the chaos that had once ruled every part of her life. Adrian was gone, not physically, not completely, but something fundamental had ended.
