Daniel looked toward the door.
"For years," he said, "someone waited for this moment."
The room turned silent again.
Then the door slowly opened.
And someone walked inside.
My breath caught.
A man.
Tall.
Scar across his eyebrow.
Walking with a slight limp.
My heart nearly stopped.
Because somehow…
I recognized him.
Even though I had never seen him before.
Daniel smiled.
"Everyone," he said calmly.
"Meet the man my wife left on the road."
The room exploded with shock.
My head spun.
"No," I whispered.
"That can't be real."
The man looked directly at me.
And his voice was quiet.
"But it is."
My knees almost gave out.
Because suddenly my past wasn't buried anymore.
It was standing right in front of me.
Alive.
Watching me.
And waiting.
