Adrian's voice was calm.
"Your father said you might call one day."
"What did he tell you about me?"
"That you were kind."
Silence.
Then he added:
"And that kindness would either be your
strength or your weakness."
I didn't answer.
Because I didn't know yet.
"What do you want from me?" I asked.
"Nothing."
That answer surprised me.
"Then why help my father?"
His answer was simple.
"Because he understood something most people don't."
"What?"
"Power isn't about money."
Silence.
"It's about endurance."
That word stayed in my head.
Endurance.
Surviving long enough to win.
"I suppose you're calling to ask what comes next," he said.
"Yes."
His answer was cold and honest.
