The meeting request came without introduction.
No company name.
No background.
Just a location and one sentence:
"Your father knew me."
That alone was enough to make me go.
The restaurant was almost empty. Soft music played, the kind meant to calm powerful
people during difficult conversations.
He was already seated when I arrived.
Older.
Calm.
Dangerously calm.
"Sit, Lena," he said like we had known each other for years.
I didn't sit immediately.
"Who are you?"
He smiled slightly.
"Someone who watched your father become strong."
I finally sat.
"And you watched him fall too?" I asked.
His eyes sharpened slightly.
"Yes."
That answer felt too honest.
"What do you want from me?"
"Nothing."
That was a lie.
People like him always wanted something.
"Then why call me?"
He leaned forward slightly.
"To see if you became stronger than him… or just luckier."
That wasn't a compliment.
It was a challenge.
And for the first time since my father died, I
felt like I was standing in front of someone who knew the entire story.
Not parts.
Everything.
Before I left he said one more thing:
"Your father wasn't the most dangerous man I knew."
I paused.
"Who was?"
He looked directly into my eyes.
"The man he refused to become."
