Chapter 21 - Chapter 20: Predator’s Fall

The forest shook violently with the predator's renewed charge. Its massive claws tore into the earth, snapping branches like twigs, red eyes burning with fury and hunger.

Darian planted his feet, golden eyes narrowed, shadow flaring around him like living steel.

Every muscle tensed, every nerve ready. This was it the fight that would decide survival.

The predator lunged first, faster than before, jaw snapping, claws swinging in a brutal arc. Darian twisted, shadow whipping out like a whip to intercept the strike.

The predator's claws shredded the mist and struck the shadow instead, recoiling only slightly, giving Darian the instant he needed to counter.

He struck the beast's flank with a precise blow, shadow slicing deep, forcing it to stagger.

But the predator roared, fury shaking the forest, and lunged again, this time aiming straight for Darian's chest. He leapt to the side, rolling across roots and broken branches, shadow snapping out to bind one massive paw.

Kael's growl rumbled faintly inside Darian, low and instinctive, urging dominance, control, precision.

Darian gritted his teeth, shadow flaring violently.

"You will fall," he growled, voice low, commanding, golden eyes blazing. "Not here. Not ever."

The predator swung its other paw, trying to crush him, but Darian met it head-on, shadow coiling around its massive limbs, twisting like living chains.

Every strike he delivered was precise no wasted movement, no hesitation. The creature struggled, claws tearing at shadow, growls deafening, but each move only strengthened Darian's resolve.

He struck again and again, shadow lashing out, striking the predator's shoulders, ribs, and legs.

With each attack, it stumbled, staggered, and bled from the wounds Darian's skill had opened. Its roars were sharp, angry, and pained, but its massive form was slowing, muscles trembling, coordination faltering.

Then, Darian saw the opening.

The predator rose one last time, claws raised, red eyes blazing with defiance.

He waited a heartbeat a single moment and then struck with everything he had. Shadow flared like a living weapon, wrapping around the predator's massive chest and neck, constricting, immobilizing.

It roared, flailing, snapping jaws, but Darian's strength and precision didn't falter. He struck again and again, shadow slicing through flesh and bone, every movement calculated, unstoppable. The creature's roar faltered, eyes flashing in desperation, and then… silence.

The predator collapsed into the roots and fallen leaves, enormous body trembling before finally lying still.

Red eyes dimmed, last growl escaping in ragged breaths. The forest seemed to exhale as the tension lifted, leaves settling, mist curling gently around the shattered trees.

Darian sank to one knee, chest heaving, shadow retreating, leaving him alone in the silence.

Golden eyes scanned the area, alert, every muscle still ready in case it was a trick. But there was no movement. No sound. The predator was gone.

Kael's growl faded into a satisfied rumble inside Darian.

Darian exhaled slowly, shadow dissipating, and finally allowed himself to relax.

Every strike, every maneuver, every ounce of strength had been necessary and it had been enough. He had fought with precision, strategy, and raw alpha power… and he had won.

The forest was quiet now, heavy with the aftermath.

Broken branches, torn earth, and scattered leaves were the only evidence of the battle.

Darian rose fully, golden eyes scanning the horizon.

He knew the predator's threat was ended at least for now.

And though exhaustion pressed on him like a weight, a quiet satisfaction pulsed through his veins. He had survived. He had protected. He had dominated.

The forest held its silence, but Darian's golden eyes never wavered. Somewhere deep inside, a spark of unease lingered ancient forces had been awakened, and while the predator was dead, the forest had witnessed power it had never seen before.
