Later that day…
Mila had just stepped into the mansion when Serene's mocking voice came from the side.
"Well, well—look who has come. Our busy doctor."
Mila paused and turned toward her. Ever since returning from the hospital, she had expected this confrontation. Her fingers twitched at her sides, the urge to slap her rising. But she restrained herself.
"How many patients did you treat today?" Serene stepped closer. "Were you busy all day? Or did you find some time to enjoy yourself?"
Mila faked a smile. "No, there weren't many patients. Which is good. But there is more to running a clinic than just treating people. Upgrading equipment, managing supplies, arranging funds—There is a lot to do. You wouldn't understand."
There was a sharp edge in her tone.
"You might think we only deal with a handful of cases," Mila continued calmly. "But even if I explain, it'll go over your head."
Mila intended to humiliate her. The insult landed cleanly.
