A wave of panic washed over Max. Only then did he realize something.
Dominic hadn't rescued him. He had delivered him straight into Matteo's hands.
"W-What are you going to do with me? Hand me over to Matteo?"
Dominic smiled faintly. "What do you think? He ordered me to bail you out. I'm simply carrying out his instructions."
"No..." Max grabbed Dominic's sleeve desperately. "You can't. You are loyal to my father. You can't let Matteo kill me. Please help me."
Dominic slowly lowered his gaze to the hand gripping his sleeve.
That same hand had pointed a gun at Mila and his son. His eyes turned colder.
"Why should I help you? Your father warned you to stay away. You ignored him. You came back. You attacked Felix. You brought disaster upon yourself. Do you really think your father will forgive what you've done?"
Max's shoulders slumped. "When I heard Dad was ill, I couldn't help but come here."
