"Kingler, Bubble Beam, full coverage!"
The Water-type's response was immediate. Its claws opened, and a torrent of bubbles erupted forth. But these weren't simple spheres, they were dense, numerous, and filled the arena with shocking speed. Within seconds, the entire battlefield was obscured by bubbling mist that clung to every surface.
Visibility dropped to near-zero. Sasuke could barely see Venusaur fifteen feet away, let alone Zabuza or Kingler across the arena.
"This is his opening strategy," Sasuke muttered, remembering the battle footage. "Create sensory deprivation, control the battlefield through superior environmental awareness."
"Venusaur, root sensors! Spread vines through the water!"
The Grass-type responded instantly. Vines shot down from his platform into the water below, spreading out in multiple directions. Where they touched water, Venusaur gained tactile feedback, pressure changes, vibrations, the displacement caused by Kingler's movements.
"Good instincts," Zabuza's voice carried through the mist. "But can you act on that information? Kingler, Crabhammer from below!"
The attack came without warning. Kingler had submerged, using the mist as cover while approaching underwater. One massive claw erupted from beneath Venusaur's platform, the Water-type attack devastating in power.
"Jump and counter! Solar Beam!"
Venusaur launched himself off the platform just as Crabhammer connected, the force shattering the floating structure into pieces. While airborne, the Grass-type's flower blazed with gathered solar energy.
Solar Beam fired, a massive column of light and grass energy that illuminated the entire mist-filled arena. The beam tracked toward where Venusaur's vines had detected Kingler's position.
But the Water-type wasn't there anymore.
"Water currents," Zabuza explained calmly. "The battlefield has active flow patterns. Kingler uses them for rapid repositioning. Your sensors can detect where we were, not where we are."
Venusaur landed on a different platform, vines already extending to re-establish sensory network. But the mist was so dense that visual targeting remained impossible.
"Kingler, Guillotine!"
The attack came from a completely different angle than expected. Kingler had circled around using underwater mobility, approaching from Venusaur's blind spot. One massive claw snapped shut with enough force to cut through steel.
"Vine Whip barrier!"
Venusaur's vines created a protective screen, but Guillotine's power was overwhelming. The vines were severed, and though the attack's force was reduced, it still connected with Venusaur's side.
The Grass-type cried out, pain evident. That was the first significant damage, and it had come despite all their preparation.
"Your sensors work," Zabuza acknowledged. "Your adaptation is impressive. But sensory information means nothing if you can't react fast enough. Kingler's speed in water exceeds your Venusaur's platform mobility."
Sasuke assessed the situation rapidly. Zabuza was right, tracking Kingler's movements didn't matter if Venusaur couldn't reposition quickly enough to counter. The floating platforms limited mobility while the water gave Kingler three-dimensional movement freedom.
They needed to change the battlefield dynamics.
"Venusaur, Vine Whip, connect the platforms!"
The Grass-type's vines shot out in multiple directions, wrapping around floating platforms and creating a web of organic cables. Within seconds, Venusaur had created an interconnected network that allowed rapid movement between platforms by swinging on vines.
"Clever," Zabuza said, and his voice carried genuine approval. "Using battlefield features against their intended design. That's strategic thinking."
"Kingler, Crabhammer on the vine network! Destroy his mobility!"
The Water-type targeted vines instead of Venusaur directly, massive claws smashing through plant matter with devastating efficiency. But for every vine Kingler destroyed, Venusaur grew two more, Grass-types had nearly unlimited regeneration capability.
"Solar Beam through the network! Track by touch!"
Venusaur's flower blazed again, but this time the attack wasn't aimed where his vines detected Kingler. Instead, Sasuke had him fire at where Kingler would logically move next based on water current patterns.
The prediction was perfect. Solar Beam struck Kingler directly as the Water-type repositioned, super-effective grass energy burning across its shell.
Kingler bellowed, pain mixed with surprise. First significant damage dealt to the Water-type.
"Excellent prediction," Zabuza acknowledged. His visible eye showed increased respect. "You're learning the battlefield faster than most challengers. Kingler, time to elevate. Crabhammer, shatter every platform!"
The Water-type's assault became relentless. Kingler moved through the pool with shocking speed, smashing platforms with Crabhammer attacks. Venusaur was forced to constantly reposition, swinging on vines while dodging devastating strikes.
But Sasuke noticed something, Kingler's breathing pattern had changed. The Water-type was working harder, moving less efficiently than earlier. That Solar Beam had done more damage than Zabuza was showing.
"We're wearing them down," Sasuke muttered. "Just need to survive long enough."
"Survive?" Zabuza's voice carried amusement. "You think this is my full power? Kingler, show them real strength! Primal Reversion!"
Kingler's body blazed with primordial energy. Its shell thickened, claws enlarged, the entire Pokemon growing as ancient genetic codes activated. This was the true form Water-types took in prehistoric oceans, larger, stronger, more dangerous.
The Primal Kingler was massive even by evolved Pokemon standards. Its shell looked impenetrable, and its claws could probably shatter stone.
"Now," Zabuza said calmly-"the real battle begins. Everything before this was just assessment. Kingler, Crabhammer at maximum power!"
The attack came too fast to dodge completely. Primal-enhanced strength meant Crabhammer's force had doubled or tripled. When it connected with Venusaur's hastily-raised vine barrier, the impact sent shockwaves through the entire arena.
Venusaur was thrown backward, crashing into the arena wall before falling into the water. The Grass-type struggled to surface, clearly hurt.
"Venusaur!" Sasuke's voice carried concern. They'd prepared extensively, but Primal Reversion pushed opponents into completely different power tiers.
The Grass-type surfaced, breathing hard. Damage was visible, bruises on his hide, flower petals singed and torn. But his eyes still showed determination.
"We're not done," Sasuke said firmly. "Not even close. Venusaur, it's our turn! Mega Evolution!"
The Mega Stone embedded in Venusaur's flower responded to Sasuke's will and the Pokemon's determination. Light enveloped the Grass-type as transformation began.
Mega Venusaur emerged larger and more powerful than before. The flower on his back bloomed into something massive and beautiful, petals arranged in complex patterns. Additional flowering vines sprouted from his body, each one capable of independent action. And most importantly, his body thickened, Thick Fat ability activating to reduce damage from physical attacks.
The crowd roared approval. This was what they'd come to see, kaiju-scale Pokemon battling with everything they had.
"Now we're even," Sasuke said. "Mega Venusaur versus Primal Kingler. No more holding back."
"Good," Zabuza replied, and his voice carried satisfaction. "You've proven you deserve serious combat. Show me if you can handle it."
Primal Kingler and Mega Venusaur faced each other across the mist-filled arena. Both Pokemon were breathing hard, both showing damage, both absolutely committed to continuing.
The referee watched carefully, ready to call the match if either Pokemon reached dangerous injury levels. But neither trainer was backing down, and neither Pokemon was surrendering.
"Solar Beam at full power!" Sasuke commanded.
"Crabhammer, meet it directly!" Zabuza countered.
Grass energy and Water-type power collided at the arena's center. The impact created an explosion that cleared the mist temporarily, giving everyone a clear view of two Pokemon channeling maximum power into mutual assault.
For three seconds, the attacks were perfectly balanced. Then slowly, inch by inch, Venusaur's Solar Beam began pushing forward. Type advantage giving just enough edge to overcome Kingler's raw strength.
"Impressive," Zabuza acknowledged as Kingler was forced back. "But we're not finished either. Kingler, time to show them why I'm undefeated! Gigantamax!"
Oh no.
Sasuke had known Gigantamax was possible, the battle specifications had mentioned it. But seeing it happen was different from knowing it theoretically.
Primal Kingler began growing. And growing. And growing.
Within seconds, the Water-type was eighty feet tall, its shell the size of a building. The mist looked like low-lying fog around its legs. The floating platforms were now tiny obstacles it could crush without noticing.
This was the ultimate form, Primal Kingler in Gigantamax state. The absolute peak of what a Water-type Pokemon could achieve in battle.
Sasuke looked up at the kaiju towering above them and realized they'd just entered an entirely different level of combat.
"Your move, Uchiha," Zabuza called from somewhere in the mist. "Show me if your preparation was enough."
Sasuke took a deep breath, assessing options rapidly. They'd trained for this. Discussed it. Planned counters.
Now came the moment of truth, could execution match preparation?
"Venusaur," he said firmly, "Gigantamax!"
His Pokemon responded to the command, energy surging as he too began growing to massive proportions. Mega Venusaur's Gigantamax form was slightly different from Kingler's, a hundred feet of plant matter and power, flower blooming into something that looked like a small forest.
Two kaiju now faced each other in the flooded arena. The crowd had gone completely silent, overwhelmed by the scale of what they were witnessing.
"Now," Sasuke said, voice carrying across the arena, "we finish this properly."
The real battle, the one that would determine if he earned the Cascade Badge, was about to begin.
