SELENE POV
We continued going down the tunnel. We watched both the floor beneath our feet and also the ceiling. Apparently, I'm traumatized by that snake, who knows what other creature is about to pop out from up there.
No one spoke, it felt like we all agreed to keep to ourselves.
"It's a dead end," Eve said, touching the old-looking wall obstructing our path. My path out of this dark space, I'm sure a prison cell is better than here.
"How is that possible?" I said in disbelief, touching the wall to make sure I'm not seeing things right now.
The wall wouldn't budge, no matter how much I pushed it. In frustration, I started kicking at the wall. "Why is this happening"
Bang.
Bang.
I kept kicking.
The cramping in my legs didn't stop me..
Bang.
Bang.
Why won't it budge?
"Selene stop'' Katherine said, her voice barely steady. She slowly sat on the dirty dusty floor. "No matter how you push it, kick it, it won't… budge."
This can't be, there must be something that were missing. There must be. "Eve, is there something else you know about this tunnel?"
Eve leaning on the wall, her head tilted downwards, didn't even look up and hummed. "Nothing."
"Then what are we going to do?" I slid down to the floor, my hands on my face. "Are we supposed to go back? Even if we want to, how would we deal with that massive thing waiting out there?"
Katherine took off her gloves, her fingers in her mouth. Trying to hide her panic, the shaking of her hands betrayed her.
We just stayed there in silence.
A suffocating silence.
"This is all my fault" I muttered, tears streaming down my cheek, trying to hold in my sobs. "We wouldn't be here if I weren't for my stubbornness."
Katherine, her finger still in her mouth. "Yes it is, but…it was our choice to follow you here."
Eve raised her head a little bit, just enough to see her eyes. "I have been in so many situations that I could have died alone. So dying with company is not so bad."
I smiled, the smile barely reaching my eyes.
"Are you giving up already?"
That voice.
"I never thought you would screamer"
I quickly jolted up to my feet.
"Did you guys hear that?'
"What"
"They can't hear me"
"Can you help us? Please" I pleaded with the voice, the voice that now sounded like an angel of salvation.
"Who are you talking to?" Katherine asked, looking around the space we are trapped in.
Eve raised her head, staring at Selene. "Are you alright?"
"Please help us!" I yelled, my voice desperate.
"Now I know no matter the situation, your lungs will never fail you"
"What is going on?" Katherine asked in confusion, looking at me like I had gone mad.
Eve closed her eyes for a moment and quickly opened them. "I can feel a powerful energy here."
"Your friend can sense me" he said, sounding oddly excited like someone finally noticed after being ignored for a long time.
If only we weren't in this situation, I would be happy because someone was able to sense him which means I have not gone nuts. " Can you help us?"
"No I can't"
He didn't even hesitate or think about it.
This ungrateful ghost.
After all the panic attacks he gave me.
"Why can't you help us?"
"It's impossible"
"How come"
"Because you're the only one that could"
I pointed a finger at myself. "Me" is he joking right now, if I could help myself why would I be sitting down here like a prisoner.
"Ok guys, what is going on" Katherine asked, looking more confused than before, like a kid lost in the mall.
"I think she is speaking with someone, I can feel that person's presence but I can't see or hear the person" Eve softly said, her eyes darting around.
"You are telling me that there's something else here with us..right here, right now"
"Yes," Eve replied.
Katherine quickly covered up the space between her and Eve, standing so close that their elbows were touching. Her eyes darted around the place in fear.
"What did it say" Eve asked
"That only I could get is out of here" I mumbled. My hands itched to strangle this ghost to death.
"How?"
"Well how?" I asked the voice.
"Your blood"
"My what?"
"Are you deaf? I said your blood" he said, annoyed. "Cut your palm and place your hand on the wall."
"Are you sure?"
"What ? Do I look like a joker?"
"How am I supposed to know, I have never seen you."
"Tsk, youngsters these days are so hard to please."
I stretched out my hand towards Katherine.
" Kathy ...could you give me your dagger"
She quickly pulled out her dagger and gave it to me.
I opened my left palm. Here goes nothing. I winced as the naked knife slashed through my palm.
"What are you doing?" Eve and Katherine asked in exasperation.
"Our way out of here" I said moving towards the wall. "Hopefully"
I placed my hands on the wall.
And then_
The wall started glowing from where my hand was placed. Bright red, spreading across the entire wall like a web.
The wall started crumbling like dust.
Katherine gasped. Eve's hand went to her sword.
I just stared, my mouth wide open.
Did..did I do that?
"You can close your mouth now" he said, cheerfully.
I'm sure there's a huge smug grin on his face right now.
"I have to go now"
"Wait, you haven't told me who or what you are"
"Not now"
"Why are you helping me"
He didn't say anything.
"I know you are still there, answer me"
"One day I will… Stay safe"
"Hey! You can't just come and go like that"
"He is gone" Eve said, her eyes closed. " I can't feel the energy anymore."
He didn't even wait for me to say thank you. I will tell him when we meet him again. I can feel it, we are surely going to cross paths again and when we do I will definitely give him a piece of my mind.
I slowly turned to the open path in front of me. The scent of incense lingered in the air. I wondered what awaited this time.
