' Quite rainy 'round here. '

I thought as I looked out from the wet helicopter window while resting my head on my hand, admiring the scenery down below amidst the pouring rain.

"-10 minutes until were arrived at our destination, Ma'am."

"-Proceed as normal."

I picked those words up with the headset I've worn over my head.

Which doesn't interested me.

...

.....

After that, it went back to just silent... Well aside from the rotary sound along with the rain outside the helo that were very faint and muffled due to my headset.

"-As stated before..."

...

"-Commander?"

Huh... Was a bird just now that just flied across-

- Smack -

"ARGK! Blyat-!"

I immediately turned away from the window as I instinctively pressed my hand on the side of my neck, turning my gaze towards the certain stern-looking woman dressed in a crimson trenchcoat sitting across from me.

"Oouch-... Do you really need to hit me with that clipboard-?!"

"You wouldn't even budged if a tank were to fire directly at you."

The stern-looking woman responded back to me with a calm yet with a small amount of strict and stern mixed together.

Letting out a small grunt from my mouth as I rubbed the side of my neck, where a tiny bruise now present.

"I-I was just... Looking out the window, ya'know? Just admiring stuff outside."

I let out a nervous giggle soon after.

The stern-looking woman lets out a sigh.

"You shouldn't get yourself distracted easily, Commander Anasta."

"Yeah, yeah.. I know that. Just... Gotten a little lost in my own world, alright~?"

" ... Hm."

The crimson trench coat woman slides through the papers clipped on the clipboard.

"Continue what I said earlier, as I stated before, we're on our way to the G&K base of Sector-Twelve. Or S-Twelve for short."

The stern-looking woman continues.

"Sector-Twelve is a region within the yellow-zone, located somewhere between Sector-Fourteen and Sector-Ten."

"-This sector possess a mix of heavy urban and rural environment, couple with a stream of rivers. And to note, it is also one of the few sector to have a high chance of raining due to an abnormal phenomena caused by a cloud of collapse fluid that had hit this region years prior."

I rest my head on my fist while leaning myself slightly forward as I listen to the woman before me.

"Sooo~ Rain equipment is a must."

"Indeed."

The stern-looking woman nods.

"But don't worry about it, there are be plenty of rain equipment at the assigned base once we get there."

"Right. Good to know."

I nodded at the woman.

"Oh- and speaking of assigned base... Uhhh... Why was I assigned to this sector again?"

The stern-looking woman before me lets out a short sigh as she place down the clipboard on the seat beside her before facing back towards me.

The reason the woman did that is because she had said it to before about my assignment back at the main headquarter of G&K. But as usual in my tradition; there is no such thing a long term memory storage in my head.

Tldr; I forgot.

"You're assigned to this sector, because the previous commander of this sector have been re-assigned to another sector that is located at the SF frontier who're in grave need of a commander; thus the reason why I've assigned you to this sector."

"Uh huh..."

I tilt my head slightly to the right for a moment before nodding, no further questioning it.

"So what's the purpose of this sector?"

I asked.

"This sector have been primarily used for merely logistics and item transportation for a couple of weeks, to supply other bases from across different sector due to the sector's strategic location and routes where convoys are unlikely to be ambushed by SF forces."

The stern-looking woman responded.

"Sounds... Like an easy assignment to me."

I calmly said as lean back in my seat before briefly re-adjusting my seating position.

The stern-looking woman replied.

"It could be. As there haven't been any significant SF activity within this region over the past few weeks, even way before the previous commander's assignment in this sector. There were a few rare cases of small band of SF troops spotted around the edges of the region. But other than that, nothing else. And due to the sector's location located far off from the frontier, it is unlikely that SF forces would decide to launch an attack here."

The stern-looking woman explained as she went to adjust her monocle that is worn on her right eye before she continues.

"And since you're recently been fresh out from the academy a few days ago, I thought this would be a great opportunity for you to learn how to work things around."

I opened my mouth and was about to speak until the helo pilot spoke out first to the stern woman.

"-2 minutes until our destination, Ma'am."

The calm, disciplined, masculine voice from the pilot spoke from the cockpit.

The stern-looking woman looked back at the pilot from her shoulder to respond to the pilot.

"Proceed."

I move myself back to the window before looking out from the wet glass.

"Woah-! Is that..?"

"The base in question. We'll arrived there shortly."

Answered the stern-looking woman.

I took the moment to stare and admire the view outside the window, noticing that the rain outside seemingly began to calm down before retreating myself from the window.

...

Our UH-60 Blackhawk slowly descent down onto the helipad at a slow, steady motion before eventually landing on the pad. The helo's rotors slowly eventually stopped along with its engine turned off soon after.

The pilot opens the side doors shortly after, allowing both myself and the stern-looking woman to exit the helo.

Taking the headset off from my head and gave it back to the pilot, I'm finally able to hear much clearer now.

I was able to get my first feel of the environment around me after exiting the helo. And the first thing I felt... Is a cold passing breeze and shivers across my body, feeling as my crimson trenchcoat along my long platinum hair were flowing along the breeze while I was frantically searching for my crimson beret beneath my coat before finally found it and took it out for me to wore on my head.

"Blyat! what's with this cold ass breeze 'round here??"

I turned towards the stern-looking woman who's standing unfazed beside me as I held my arms together, feeling a wave of shivers across my body despite myself wearing the exact similar crimson trenchcoat like hers.

For a place that is raining and not snowing, it may as well be snowing!

"I-Is it always like this, Miss Helian?"

"Indeed."

The stern-looking woman responded as the woman crossed her arms together.

"Due of the frequent rain caused by the abnormal condition, the temperature of this sector has plummet quite low compared to the other sectors. Although certainly not enough to the point of freezing, it is recommended for human staff to wear warm, dry layered clothes to minimize the risk of catching a cold. Or at worse, hypothermia."

"Well-! That's good to know."

I looked back towards the pilot from my shoulder, seeing as the pilot leaning calmly against the side of the helo with his helmet still on.

"Hey Sir! You're not getting cold aren't you?"

In respond, the pilot simply gave me a thumbs up in a calm, unfazed manner.

Seeing that made me frown for a split moment before shrugging my shoulders.

"... Okay."

Turning back to face the stern woman again, I spoke.

"Uhh, perhaps we should get inside now, please Miss Helian? So we don't increase the risk of getting ourselves hypothermia."

There was movement on the corner of the stern-looking woman's lips before it immediately disappeared.

Ha... I kept saying 'stern-looking woman'.

Listen! I know that her name is Helian and a high-ranking officer in the PMC! ... But I'mma kept it that way.

Because it's funny and... Easier for me to remember.

... Also why did I say 'listen' when there's only myself-

"A great suggestion, Commander Anasta. Follow me to the entrance."

The stern-looking woman's gaze glances over my shoulder.

"You too, Sadler. No standing beneath the rain for seven hoursstraight like you did few days prior."

Hearing this, the pilot looked up and stare towards the stern-looking woman for a moment through the fully tinted visor of his HGU-56/P rotary wing helmet, before giving the woman a nod.

"Yes ma'am. But exclude the 'standing ' part, Ma'am. No promises."

The pilot calmly said, His voice slightly muffled by the maxillofacial shield attached to his helmet. Though despite that, there was a noticeable hint of humor in his words.

I stared back towards the pilot from my shoulder, with quite the mix of surprised and impressed look on my face.

Like... HUH?

What the fuck do you mean you stood in the rain for 7 hours straight? What for??

While I was occupied in my mind, the stern-looking woman standing in front of me shakes her head at the pilot and lets out a small sigh before moving her gaze back to me.

"Let's not delay any further. Follow me now, commander."

Quickly snapping out of my thoughts, I looked back toward the stern-looking woman.

"Yes ma'am-!"

"Hm."

With that, we made out way towards the entrance of the base, along with the pilot following behind.

...

.....

We arrived shortly after in front of the base entrance, which has a set of automatic double doors, along with a signature G&K logo on it in white.

"This was once a humble set of metal double doors before being replaced with this door due to rust and years of negligence."

The stern-looki- I mean Miss Helian commented as the automatic double doors before her soon opens automatically(duh) to the side.

As we enter through the doors, we found ourselves in a large wide open area, which appears to be a main hall of the base.

"This was once a large facility built by the Ukrainian military back during the Ukrainian civil war and used up until World War Three, originally for storage and logistics as its primary purpose."

"Varieties items were stored here, from equipment to large heavy-duty military vehicles."

I replied to Miss Helian as I looked around the wide open area with awe look across my face. In awe, because I didn't expect this place to be HUGE! It feels like a shopping mall here! It almost made me forget the words Miss Helian said just now.

"Really? For storage and logistics? This area alone looks like a mall!"

Miss Helian turned her gaze towards me after she was looking through the screen of her personal tablet in her hand which has the same G&K logo behind it. (wait since when did she pulled out a tablet??)

"I do not blame you for saying as such, commander."

Miss Helian continues.

"According to information regarding of this facility I have dug from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense's old documents, this facility wasn't always used for storage and logistical purpose."

"hence the word 'originally'..."

I said as I crossed my arms together.

"Indeed."

Miss Helian nods before continuing.

"While the facility's original purpose primarily for logistics and storage, it was acted as a military base at some point in time during the Ukrainian civil war due to how close the position was to the battlefield. And since it is originally a large facility that store many military equipment, ammunition, and such, you can imagine how convenient it was to repel as well as preparing an attack when you have essentially the entire Ukrainian military resting on your back."

I rest my chin on the back of my gloved hand as I listened in awe.

"Wow. No joke! "

I commented as Miss Helian continues.

"Additionally, I found some old financial reports that I've dug up among the documents, says that the Ukrainian Government at one point have pour so much funds into the facility that it became... Over-budged."

"... Huh??"

For a moment, I thought that my eyes were about pop out from my eye sockets after hearing the last word in Miss Helian's sentence.

"W-what do you mean... 'Over-budged'??? You saying that this military logistical facility was suffering from success?"

-And also the first time that I've heard the word 'Over-budged' in a military context. If you know, you know.

"Precisely."

Miss Helian replied.

"And with all the many funds laying unused on its palms, the original higher-up in charge of the facility eventually decided to convert the entire facility into a full-fledged military base, along with building an entire underground network beneath the facility where they could--

"THERE'S AN UNDERGROUND TOO-??"

I shouted from my mouth in shock as I place both of my hands on my head.

"Hah... Hah... I-I think... I'm about to pass out Miss Helian... Please hold my hand..."

Miss Helian let out a sigh upon the sight in front of her before she firmly clears her throat and shoots me a stern look, which made me stand straight in my feet. After that, Miss Helian spoke once more.

"... I believe we should continue our tour into the facility, Commander."

Upon hearing, I nod frantically at her.

"R-right! .. We probably should.

Right behind you Ma'am-!"

With that, Miss Helian gave me a nod as both of us began our way down to a hallway, but until I looked back from my shoulder, staring back at the pilot who was leaning against the wall.

When the pilot notice me, He simply gave me a calm thumbs up at me.

...Which I then return it by giving the pilot a double thumbs up with my gloved hands and silly smirk curled on my lips soon after.

...

.....

' Blyat..! '

That the first thing I thought of when I finally grasp how darn hugethe base is. Hell, it is a crime to call this as a mere facility!

... Anyways.

Both Me and Miss Helian were now inside of the main command room of the facility right after Helian have shown me around the facility; minus the underground part, because apparently its currently under renovation by builders and engineers contracted by the PMC.

Ah welp, that sucks. A little disappointed, but still, this place is big!

On a bright side, the main command room is packed with equipment and many sorts of modules!

While the room is not as big compared to some other rooms in the base, it's suitable enough in my opinion.

"Here is your tablet."

Miss Helian spoke to me as she place down a tablet similar to hers on a table beside me, causing me to snap from my thoughts.

"It contains various command modules and other various essentials that you'll find useful."

I went and held the tablet into my gloved hand.

"Oh sweet!

So does it work similar to the ones that I used during the command training back at the main HQ?"

"Indeed."

Miss Helian nods.

"With only very few minor changes into the device."

I stared down at the black screen of the tablet in my gloved hand for a moment before a thought quickly appeared in my mind, looking back up toward Miss Helian.

"An important question, Miss Helian."

"Depends on what defines 'important' to you, Commander Anasta-"

"Can I download games on this tablet?"

...

.....

A look mixed of disapproval and strictness appear across Miss Helian's face.

Oh god- I'm I dead?

"I'm joking! I'm joking--

"Only during your break time, Commander."

"... Eh-??"

A look of surprised across my face as I stared at Miss Helian like she was some kind of an anomaly.

"Really?"

Miss Helian let out what seems to be a tired sigh as the mixed disapproval and strictness across her face quickly melt back to her usual calm one.

"Since there aren't really much work for you to do in this sector as a Commander, I decided to adjust your work schedules to be lighter compared to other commanders from different sectors.

Miss Helian raises a finger up.

"However, there are few things that needed some work. As the newly assigned tactical Commander of this sector, you're to assess and ensure that everything goes as smooth as it is within this sector."

"...That's all?"

I asked.

"For now."

Miss Helian answered as she turned away from to approach a wide table with a control panel before pressing a few button on it, which actives a large projection that projects a blue 3D map of the entire sector, as well as a large flat screen at the end of the room.

Facing back toward me, she spoke once more.

"You're allowed to do as you please aside from the task that I've given to you just now. And as long as it follows jurisdiction of course."

I gave her a simple salute.

"Yes ma'am."

Miss Helian returns a nod to me before adding.

"I've also sent a logistic officer to you as a temporary adjustant to guide and assist you in the base within the next few days. And as for the T-Dolls stationed in this sector, they're currently resting at their room at the dormitory at the east side of the base."

Miss Helian said right before noticing something at the corner of her eyes. When she goes to check, she now hold a large glass pot of coffee in her hand, which has a note tapped onto it.

"... Hm. It appears that the previous Commander decided to leave behind a gift for you."

Curious, I turned to face Miss Helian before making my way to her, which she gave it to me soon after.

I inspected it. And as expected, it's just a large glass pot filled with black coffee. As for the note tapped to it, it simply reads;

{ For you rookie. Hope you like black. }

{ - Pierce ( ⩌ - ⩌ )}

A smirk arched across my lips.

"Pierce, huh?"

I looked up to Miss Helian.

"Miss Helian, can you tell me more about this person?"

Miss Helian nods.

"He's a very serious man, who's quite dedicated to his work as a tactical commander of G&K. But despite being very serious, He has a rather surprising calm and a relatively kind personality beneath his steel."

"Uh huh."

I placed down the glass pot of coffee onto the desk beside me.

Once I did, Miss Helian also added.

"That is all for me to say to you today. If you have any question or needed something, you can call me by using the same panel on the wide table at the center of the room."

"Yes ma'am!"

With that, Miss Helian extends her hand to me.

"For now on,

Welcome to Sector-Twelve, Commander Anastashia."

I stared at Miss Helian's hand for a moment before I finally extend mine.

When both of us shake hands, a small smile slowly form on my lips before a sigh is let out from my nostril.

"Looking forward to work with you, Miss Helian."

Author's note

Hello again! I hope you're enjoying the series so far.

I hope I managed to nail Helianthus's character and did her justice🥲.

Lately I've been experimenting with some stuff, from writing style and such. And currently I'm experimenting this 'POV' thing. Basically, I'm planning to have each character to have a different perspective from how they see things and such, as well as having different style of narration or stuff like that.

And since I've finally introduce the newly assigned tactical commander of Sector-12, I finally decided to just go with it.

For example, with Anasta's POV, I planned it to be more... straightforward yet less detailed writing, more so to fit her character.

Speaking of her character;

What is your first impression about the newly assigned G&K tactical commander of sector-12?

(who is definitely not a goofy airhead... Definitely...)

On a more important question;

Do you prefer this series to follow the accurate lore of GFL? Or do you prefer me to add some new things into the series that are may or may not be accurate to GFL's lore? (Answer in the poll I made)

---

The facts of the 2060's

- Anasta is, in fact, not joking when she asked Helian if she could download games into the tablet.

- The underground network beneath the base has actually not been fully built during its time 'suffering from success', leaving only a quarter of the network fully built. The reason behind it is unknown. When G&K discovered the facility and its unfinished underground network project, the PMC decided to resume the project by expanding it as well as renovating it.

- The pilot did in fact stood beneath the rain for 7 hours straight a few days prior.
