The corridors of Team Umber's hidden base hummed with a dangerous energy.
Elior moved silently, wearing the black uniform he had taken from the guard. Riolu crouched low beside him, aura faintly glowing. Voltiger perched quietly on Elior's shoulder, sparks flickering nervously, while Lunashade's shadow blended perfectly with the darkness.
Ahead, the energy readings spiked dramatically. Elior clenched his fists.
"That's him… Commander Varkis," he whispered.
They entered a massive chamber at the heart of the base. Machines surrounded a platform glowing red with energy from Pyrotherion, its containment field pulsating ominously.
Varkis stood tall, calm, and confident.
"So… you've returned," he said. "I wondered how long it would take."
Elior stepped forward.
"This ends tonight."
Varkis's smirk deepened.
"Very well. Let's see how far your Resonance has truly come."
He released a Pokéball. A flash of dark light revealed his fox-like Pokémon.
"Umbreon, show him the power of Dark Resonance!"
The black fox appeared instantly, red rings glowing. The Dark Resonance radiated outward, pressing down on Elior and his team.
Riolu Strikes First
Elior called out:
"Riolu, Quick Attack!"
Riolu dashed forward, aura flaring around its fists. Umbreon lunged with Shadow Claw, dark energy crackling around its paws.
They collided. Sparks flew. The force was immense, shaking the chamber.
"Force Palm!" Elior shouted.
Riolu struck Umbreon squarely with glowing blue energy. Umbreon staggered, off balance.
Varkis's eyes narrowed.
"Not bad… but can you handle this?"
Riolu dodged another Dark Pulse, then landed a spinning Aura-powered strike that slammed Umbreon into the wall.
The black fox struggled to rise.
"Go, Riolu! Finish it!" Elior urged.
With one final burst of aura, Riolu launched Umbreon backward, knocking it unconscious.
Elior grinned.
"You did it, Riolu!"
The Commander Reveals His Last Pokémon
Varkis's smile faded.
"You've grown stronger… but now you'll see my true power."
He threw his final Pokéball.
A massive shadow emerged in the chamber, towering over both trainers. Its eyes burned with a deep, menacing glow, and waves of Dark Resonance radiated from it like a storm.
"Meet Noctyrex, my last and most powerful Pokémon!"
The energy in the room shifted. The temperature dropped. Sparks from Voltiger flared uncontrollably.
Voltiger Takes Charge
Elior glanced at Riolu, who was exhausted from the battle.
"You've done your part," he said softly. "Voltiger, it's your turn!"
Voltiger shot into the air, electricity crackling along its body. Its eyes glowed determinedly.
"Noctyrex, Dark Pulse!"
A wave of dark energy slammed toward Voltiger. Sparks flew, but Voltiger countered with Thunderbolt, colliding head-on with the Dark Pulse.
The chamber shook violently. Machines rattled. Varkis watched, his expression calm but sharp.
"Interesting," he murmured. "You may have defeated Umbreon… but this ends now."
Noctyrex released a massive shockwave of Dark Resonance. Voltiger surged with electricity, meeting the wave head-on, its sparks illuminating the entire chamber.
Elior's heart pounded.
"This is… just the beginning."
The battle for the base—and for Pyrotherion—was far from over.
