Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 — The Legacy

The ground trembled.

Cracks spread across the ancient stone of the Gate of Ash as the sigils carved into its surface began to glow.

A deep rumble echoed from beneath the earth.

Dean stood between the gate and the Impala, the cold night air biting at his skin.

The demon watched with satisfaction.

"You see?" he said calmly. "Destiny always finds its way."

Behind the gate, something moved.

Not one thing.

Many.

Shadows pressed against the growing crack in the stone.

Ben stepped closer to Dean.

"That thing opens all the way, we're done."

Dean didn't answer.

His eyes were on the Impala.

The sigils beneath the chassis burned with faint red light.

His father's voice echoed in his memory.

We couldn't destroy it… so we built something instead.

The demon spread his arms.

"Go ahead, Dean. Just a little more blood and the door opens completely."

Dean stepped forward slowly.

The demon smiled.

Ben grabbed his arm.

"Dean, what are you doing?"

Dean looked at him.

For a moment, he said nothing.

Then quietly:

"Trust me."

He pulled the knife from his belt.

The blade glinted under the moonlight.

The demon's eyes gleamed with anticipation.

Dean cut his palm.

Blood fell onto the ground in front of the gate.

The sigils on the stone flared violently.

The crack widened.

A horrible sound came from the darkness behind the door.

Claws scraping stone.

Something trying to push through.

The demon laughed.

"Yes… that's it."

But Dean didn't step away.

Instead, he walked back toward the Impala.

The demon frowned.

"What are you doing?"

Dean opened the driver's door.

He climbed inside.

The engine roared to life.

Ben suddenly understood.

"Dean… wait."

Dean gripped the steering wheel.

His uncle's words echoed in his mind.

Baby just became the most important car in the universe.

Dean looked at the glowing gate.

Then at the sigils beneath the car.

His voice was quiet.

"Then let's finish the job."

He slammed the accelerator.

The Impala shot forward.

The demon's eyes widened.

"No—"

The car smashed directly into the center of the gate.

The sigils beneath the chassis exploded with light.

Dean's blood dripped onto the steering wheel.

The car's symbols ignited.

Every sigil Sam and Dean had carved years ago awakened at once.

The Impala became the seal.

A blinding wave of light burst outward.

The gate screamed.

Not metaphorically.

It screamed.

The crack in the stone slammed shut violently.

The shadows behind it vanished.

The demon was thrown backward across the clearing.

The light faded.

Silence fell.

Dust drifted through the cold air.

The Gate of Ash stood motionless again.

Sealed.

Forever.

The demon slowly stood.

His expression had changed.

Fury replaced amusement.

"You idiot."

Then—

A bright white light appeared behind him.

Soft.

Ancient.

Calm.

A figure stepped forward.

Wings made of light briefly flickered behind him.

An angel.

The demon froze.

"You…"

The angel spoke quietly.

"This door was never meant to open again."

The demon snarled.

But before he could move, the angel raised his hand.

Light exploded across the clearing.

The demon vanished in a burst of ash.

Silence returned.

The angel turned toward the wrecked Impala.

The car sat half-embedded in the stone gate.

Ben ran toward it.

"Dean!"

The driver's door creaked open.

Dean stepped out slowly.

Bruised.

Covered in dust.

But alive.

Ben laughed in disbelief.

"You're insane."

Dean smirked slightly.

"Runs in the family."

The angel studied him.

"Your family never stopped fighting."

Dean wiped blood from his hand.

"Yeah. That sounds like them."

The angel looked at the sealed gate.

Then back at Dean.

"The legacy continues."

And with that—

He disappeared into the night.

The forest grew quiet again.

Ben looked at the Impala.

Despite the crash, the engine still hummed softly.

He shook his head.

"That car should not still be running."

Dean leaned against the hood.

Then smiled faintly.

"You clearly didn't know my uncle."

Later that night

The highway stretched endlessly ahead.

The Impala rolled through the darkness.

Dean drove.

Ben sat in the passenger seat.

The radio crackled softly.

Ben glanced over.

"So… what now?"

Dean kept his eyes on the road.

A faint smile appeared.

"Now?"

The Impala's engine growled as it accelerated into the night.

"Now… we hunt."

The black car disappeared down the empty road.

Just like it always had.

And somewhere, far beyond the world—

Old forces watched.

Because the name Winchester was still out there.

And the story…

Wasn't over.
