The remaining students realized that survival required coordination. Mira's winds lifted debris, Lyra's chains restrained beasts, Kael's shadows protected paths, Joran's fire blocked lava flows, and Elara's magic cleared the swamp.
Yet, the arena responded. Platforms collapsed unexpectedly, and new beasts appeared:
Shadow Kraken tentacles erupted from mist pools.
Lava salamanders erupted from fissures, leaving molten traps.
Obsidian wraiths moved unpredictably, cutting through both magic and steel.
Fourth Fatality — Soren Hale
Soren, a fire mage, tried to protect Mira as she adjusted to a collapsing platform. A lava salamander leapt, its molten claws striking Soren directly. He countered with a blast of fire but the lava heat overwhelmed him. His platform melted beneath him, sending him plummeting into the abyss, consumed by molten rock.
The group watched, helpless, as another student was lost. Lyra's hands trembled, chains whipping reflexively. Mira's eyes filled with tears, though she could do nothing but keep moving.
Lyra's Leadership
Lyra's survival instincts sharpened. She led the remaining students across the most dangerous paths. Every movement was calculated. She had learned from Merek, Lena, Rylan, and Soren their deaths were warnings.
She swung chains to pull Mira and Elara over collapsing platforms, blocked attacks from Nightmare Stags, and lashed roots and shadows to redirect hazards.
We have to survive… all of us, or none of us make it.
