The paranoia hit me the moment I stepped out of the Mandarin Oriental.
The air outside was hot. Humid. It pressed against my suit the second the doors opened. Car exhaust and sea salt mixed with the faint smell of money and perfume from the lobby. The sun was high and white. It reflected off the glass towers of the Cotai Strip and made me squint. My watch felt heavy on my wrist.
"Overwatch," I murmured, sliding into the backseat of the armored Mercedes. The leather was cool. The tinted windows sealed me in. "Run a full spectrum sweep of the surrounding traffic. I want eyes on every vehicle pulling out of the hotel garage."
The door closed with a solid thud. Soundproof.
"Scanning now," Nia replied. Her voice was crisp in the comms bead. "You have a clean perimeter. Your security detail is in the lead and trail vehicles. Traffic is standard for the mid-afternoon."
