Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: The Margin Call

[Current Stack: 1 Mythic Chest, 6 Fragments, 2,700 Tokens, 5,000 Vita-Fragments, 1 Hydro-Core, 1 Tear, 3 Dev-Strings, 1 Admin Key.] [Multiplier: 1.35%] [Vault Pressure: 22%. Warning: Cellular tearing imminent.]

Vance, Executive Director of the Ouroboros Guild's Floor 50 lending division, dangled in the air. His legs kicked uselessly against the suffocating, unrendered gravity radiating from Yuto's grip.

"Wait! Wait!" Vance choked, his perfectly styled hair falling in disarray, his pristine corporate suit wrinkling. "I have access to the Guild's treasury! I can transfer ten million Vita-Fragments to your account right now! We can make a deal!"

"A deal?" Yuto whispered, leaning in close. The red light from his Babel-Stigma illuminated his cold, emotionless eyes. "You don't have ten million fragments. You just have lines of credit. You're entirely synthetic."

Vance's eyes widened in sheer panic. "I am a Tier-S Executive! You can't liquidate me!"

"Watch me," Yuto said. "Margin call."

Yuto didn't punch him. He simply tightened his grip and allowed the localized, offline mass of his Vault to completely overpower the server-side permissions keeping Vance's avatar intact. The System couldn't process the math. A borrower with infinite debt was colliding with a hoarder with infinite, unspent density.

With a sound like a shattering mirror, Vance's obsidian armor cracked. Then his body cracked.

"No! My portfolio!" Vance screamed, before violently decompressing.

He didn't bleed; he exploded into a massive, blinding fountain of premium, corporate-tier loot. Golden briefcases, encrypted data-drives, and thousands of glowing, high-density Code Fragments rained down onto the grey floor.

[Executive Target Liquidated.] [Loot Dropped: 1x Guild Treasury Cipher, 20,000 Premium Vita-Fragments, 1x S-Tier Corporate Suit (Equippable).]

Vault it, Yuto commanded, his muscles screaming in agony.

[Loot Vaulted. Current Stack: 1 Mythic Chest, 6 Fragments, 2,700 Tokens, 25,000 Vita-Fragments, 1 Hydro-Core, 1 Tear, 3 Dev-Strings, 1 Admin Key, 1 Guild Cipher, 1 S-Tier Suit.] [Multiplier: 1.42%] [Vault Pressure: 25%. CRITICAL: Host skeleton beginning to micro-fracture.]

Yuto dropped to one knee, coughing up a spatter of dark blood onto the grey floor. The 25% pressure felt like carrying a skyscraper on his back. But he smiled. A bloody, terrifying, victorious smile.

Footsteps echoed softly behind him.

Isabella walked over, the remnants of her broken slave-collar dissolving into static around her boots. She didn't look at the massive crater Yuto had made, nor did she look at the terrified Auditor cowering in the distance. She looked only at Yuto.

She dropped to one knee, matching his posture, and bowed her head.

"I spent my whole life striking fast and spending everything just to survive the next ten seconds," Isabella said, her voice trembling but resolute. "I thought hoarding was a death sentence. But you... you didn't just survive. You broke the chains."

She looked up, her ruby eyes blazing with fierce loyalty.

"I don't care about the Tower anymore. I don't care about the System's mana," Isabella declared. "If you are building an offline vanguard, I want in. My blades are yours, Yuto Kurosawa. Just... promise me you won't die of a ruptured spleen before we get to the top."

[System Milestone Reached: The Gladiator's Oath!] [Claim 50% Loyalty Stat Boost?]

Yuto winced, swiping the notification away into his Vault, causing the pressure to tick up a microscopic fraction more. "I'm not dying," he grunted, forcing himself to his feet. "But we are leaving."
