My Name is Shindo Toji. When I was young, I always wanted to be a top dog. Someone important who could make it big in Shangri-La's egg communities. Back then, Klay Arslan was my hero. The big time philantropist and businessman. I didn't know anything about him beyond that image. Not yet.
My brother and I had this dream of being shot callers in the World Union. The creators of the Sapotama. We did everything from reading the operator's manual to breaking ours open to learn everything we could about Sapotama. We got in trouble a lot for that. But the more we learned about Sapotama's the more we needed to know what we could do to make them better. Sapotama's were already a highly advanced device to begin with. They don't run on gas or electricity; they run on E-pulse.
I remember when we discovered digimon during one of our experiments. It was one of our original sapotama designs we wanted to pitch to World Union. Me and my brother put our e-pulse inside it on a daily basis. Then one day...Veemon and Wormmon appeared.
Digital Monsters, that's what they called themselves. I snickered much to Veemon's annoyance. There wasn't really anything monstrous about either of them. There were so many questions we had. For a while, me and my brother thought that this was the result of our original sapotama.
How wrong we were.
We theorized for hours trying to figure out just how much e-pulse affects Sapotama's. E-pulse was energy, but it also contained emotion, stress, and thoughts to a degree. It shouldn't be able to produce life.
That night, we decided to use this as an opportunity to get in with the World Union. We thought it would be one step closer to our dream, and we needed to know more about digimon.
There was a World Union Booth on Career Day at school, and the recruiter indulged us. Once we showed them Wormmon and Veemon, our fate was sealed.
We rode on an internship to a scholarship and even potential career paths. We got to contribute to new Sapotama designs.
All at the expense of the Klay Arslan Foundation....
We learned the ins and outs of how digimon thrived in our current society under the public eye. The Ministry's delete digimon policy, registered digimon owners that hunted wild digimon, and the bounty system, the cold heart epidemic, a whole network that you would never know about until you encountered a digimon. Which was honestly happening more and more often at that time. We also learned about Klay's personal attack force. Tactics... My brother and I were still allowed to keep Veemon and Wormmon, but we had to leave them at World Union.
One day, we were called upon to perform in an experiment. It was to more or less simulate the same reaction from a Sapotama that gave birth to wormmon and veemon. For all our at time at World Union up to that point, no one ever produced another Sapotama that could spawn two different digimon, no matter how many pairs of people dumped their e-pulse into one Sapotama.
It seemed so straightforward back then....until the 'accident.' In hindsight, I knew something was off when Klay and his man Naito showed up to watch the experiment...and that my brother was more nervous than usual.
My brother and I dumped our e-pulse into the test Sapotama, and everything went black.
I woke up strapped to a chair with my brother. Naito stood in front of us with that cold look that had little to no emotion. His Gigasmon was on his rear side. Klay sat behind them smoking a cigar.
Naito said speak now, or he would have to start working us down the hard way. I had no idea what was going on, and my brother went silent.
Naito started beating on my brother, and I tried to tell them we had no idea what they wanted. I was the one who needed answers. Not that Naito believed me. He grabbed me by the jaw, and I could feel him start to pull on my teeth.
Before he could rip it out, my brother confessed.
For a little under a year, he has been a mole for the Ministry. His main task was to collect evidence to indict Klay. The man who had more or less given us everything we had. I never had a clue...
On the condition that they would let me go, my brother would tell them everything they wanted to know. Unfortunately, they weren't interested. The only thing they wanted in the first place was to confirm who the mole was.
After that Klay killed my brother himself...with a smile...
I cried, I screamed, I cursed. I cursed Klay from the bottom of my heart, no matter how many times Naito kicked me.
I was put away in one of Klay's underground fighting rings not too long after. Veemon and Wormmon were put in with me. They kept asking me where my brother was, but I couldn't say anything.
Wormmon understood quickly enough, but Veemon just kept crying, and I couldn't look him in the eye...
From then on, it was fight after fight to survive since the losers were put into coldheart stasis. Some of these poor souls were actually volunteers looking to get in with Klay's Tactics squad and make it big.
But not Rina and Khan...when all our eyes met...something just clicked. I had never felt such a kinship since my own brother and my digimon. We broke out, and now us three live together. I live for one thing now with me and my brothers, DNA digivoled digimon Dinobeemon.
To kill Klay Arsland and avenge my brother Tsurugi...avenge us all....
