Chapter 4 - Check Up

Agent Coulson spent the majority of the time fidgeting with his tablet. I stayed in my seat waiting for our landing but felt it odd that we continued to rise into the air.

"Hey, why don't you look out the window? You'll see your new home." Coulson said.

I gave him a confused look and he smiled tilting his head in the direction of the cockpit for me to go to. Removing the seat belts of my seat I got up to see. Outside the window was a flying city I thought, it certainly made the labyrinth I called home for decades feel small.

"Ha, I love seeing the faces of new recruits." Said Coulson, I thought it impossible for me to be surprised anymore.

We landed safely on the Helicarrier. Agent Coulson handed me a mask to facilitate breathing but I doubt I truly needed it. When the compartment of the quinjet opened a group of scientists entered as we left, probably leaving for the secret base. Coulson guided me inside while I noticed the countless quinjets stationed on the Helicarrier.

Inside everyone was busy. I heard them talk about countless operations and the mention of countries around the world. Some weared suits like Coulson, other uniforms that a secret Agent would wear while soldiers routinely moved around. Coulson led me through hallways that were far more easier to navigate than where I grew up in. We passed many areas that I had no clue what they where but the emblem of an eagle made of steel decorated the majority of the places.

Coulson walked me into a room where a bed connected to a sophisticated device was at the centre of it. A couple scientists or doctors fiddled with panels showing a human body and strands of DNA.

An agent came up to us, "Coulson. And you must be 626. I'm Maria Hill. Please if you would allow our doctors to examine your health. We understand that you've been experimented on and simply want to access the gravity of it."

I nodded and allowed the doctors to attach a couple wires before placing me on the bed to monitor my body. Coulson and Maria Hill left the room. Only the doctors and the machine were with me while the front of the room had a tinted window much like my old chamber.

The doctors checked my teeth, hands, even placing their hand on my glowing chest wanting to document everything about me. Finaly they helped me lay down on the bed while the machine connected to it sprang to life. It moved over me scanning my body with lasers over and over.

Behind the tinted window stood agent Coulson and Maria Hill with director Fury on the line.

"Sir, the subject's information is coming in, sending it your way." Spoke Coulson.

"Hmm. Heat signature similar to Extremis. I thought our agents said it was impossible to survive this virus." Mentioned Fury.

Agent Hill spoke, "perhaps his mutant gene allowed him to survive. Do you want me to get a blood sample?"

"That won't work. Look here. His body has no water or blood by that matter. Whatever they did to him, it's like lava is running through his veins sir." Said Coulson.

"Anything else of note. We still haven't recovered any documents pertaining to him." Replied Fury.

"Although his blood has dried up his muscle and bone structure suggest superhuman enchantments." Answered Maria Hill.

"A supersoldier serum being used wouldn't be a bad guess as to what happened." Responded Coulson.

"Is this a secure channel?" Asked Fury, yes they answered. "626 as he called himself said HYDRA was in charge. There's something wrong here. All documents that survived have Stryker's name all over them. The kid could be lying or this is all one massive cover up."

"All due respect sir but HYDRA hasn't had such a base since the war." Said Coulson.

"Call Hawkeye. I want him on 626." Fury said.

"Yes sir." Maria answered.

Agent Coulson spoke, "the final scan came in. Looks like this thermal signature can be weaponized and its not just for show. Oh... It seems his reproductive organs have been destroyed a decade ago. He's...Just thirteen Fury. Are you seeing this?"

Fury spoke after a moment, "he really is a kid. That assures me they used a serum on him. I'll let you handle it Coulson. There's a couple documents that might be important here."

"Sir, what do I say about his condition...his health—" Coulson was interrupted.

"Only the good parts. I want him to feel like he's in Disneyland. I'm I clear?" Said Fury in a stern voice.

"Yes director Fury." Said Coulson as Fury ended the call.

Coulson nodded to Hill and entered the room with 626. " Thank you, we got all that we needed." Coulson said to the doctors, "Come I'll show you to your room while director Fury returns." He spoke to 626.

Back at the secret base

Director Fury looked over blood stained documents. He kept them to himself as when he opened the folder a red skull with tentacles underneath it was seen with the words 'level red only'.

He turned the page seeing the title of the project named 'Warm Winter'. He read the notes left behind, "goal of the project is to have a being capable of taking down inhuman threats."

Turning the page he saw a child strapped to a table resembling 626. "Experiment 626 has proven resilient to the virus injected in his system. Most likely candidate for the project."

The next page he saw a burned laboratory, "after injecting the Extremis virus we saw just the tipping point of this untapped power. Suggesting to the construction and use of a chamber that can keep him in check."

The following page showed images of a severed arm, melted metals and photos of training. "626 has remarkable healing with cut limbs showing the capacity to burn through metal after being cut until it turned to ashes. Records from training show that the serum Dr. List invented have enchanched him further, whether he surpasses Captain America remains to be seen."

Turning the page he saw a page filled with black out ink and a image cut in half with a spar between 626 and his opponent that had been cut out. "Seeing him taught under...redacted...he's following orders and regimes that only a supersoldier could."

Finally turning to the last page he saw what the final plan was, "626 vitals have remained the same after all these years. I suggest that looking for a cure is a fruitless venture. Eventually Extremis will collapse his heart. Solution found, I advise that 626 be placed under the same program of activation as...redacted... to be used as an enforcer." Only one photo was attached to the last page, a cryo chamber.
