After defeating the Samurai boy, Red learned from him the location where Scyther were active in the Viridian Forest area. Now Red set off toward Scyther's habitat, intending to capture one with outstanding strength.
"Aura abilities, dwell within my heart," Red murmured, closing his eyes to sense the Aura emitted by distant creatures. After a brief search, Red locked onto a Scyther whose Aura was clearly stronger than its peers. At that moment, however, that Scyther seemed to be under expulsion—it was being besieged by five of its own kind.
Without hesitation, Red used Teleport and arrived at Scyther's location. At a glance, he discovered a shiny blue Scyther battling five others. Clearly, the five did not accept this differently colored outcast, revealing hostility toward the blue Scyther and even launching attacks.
Among the six, the blue Scyther was undoubtedly the most striking. Ordinary Scyther were green, blending perfectly into the environment of Viridian Forest, using their camouflage to deceive opponents' eyes.
But the besieged shiny Scyther was an unusual shade of blue, making it difficult to hide within the forest. This, in turn, had driven it to sharpen its strength in order to survive more effectively.
The leading Scyther was the first to use Quick Attack, closing in on the blue Scyther. The latter clearly refused to yield and responded with its own Quick Attack, colliding head-on.
To the surprise of the others, the leader was knocked back three meters by the blue Scyther, nearly crashing into a tree. Immediately afterward, the blue Scyther unleashed Air Slash, thoroughly defeating the leader.
Witnessing this, the remaining Scyther grew wary. Even five working together had failed to crush the blue Scyther—on the contrary, one of their leaders had fallen first.
'You think you are worthy of defeating me?' the blue Scyther scoffed, brandishing its scythe-like arms, signaling the others to come at it.
(This is set as Pokémon language. To distinguish from Pokémon who can speak human language, Pokémon language is marked with ''.)
'Don't get too arrogant! The old leader has already been defeated by the new leader. No Pokémon can shelter you anymore!' one clearly indignant Scyther shouted.
The blue Scyther was the only son of the Scyther leader residing in Viridian Forest. Even if some of its kind felt rejection toward it, they had concealed their feelings out of fear of the leader.
But as time passed, the old leader's strength had long declined. His aged body could no longer sustain high-speed combat, and during this period he was defeated by a younger Scyther and expelled.
'You must have misunderstood something. It wasn't you who expelled me—I was the one who chose to abandon you!' the blue Scyther snapped. Charging forward, it used Fury Cutter and struck down the Scyther that had just taunted it.
The remaining three clearly showed fear and involuntarily stepped back. But the enraged blue Scyther had no intention of letting them go. With a burst of Agility, it appeared behind them, and a close-range Air Slash defeated them all without taking a single hit.
"Impressive strength. Scyther, I admire you."
After the blue Scyther defeated its kin, Red appeared before it unhurriedly, openly expressing his approval.
Scyther said nothing. It silently raised its arms, the sharp blades gleaming with blue light. If Red attempted anything harmful, Scyther would not hesitate to greet him with a clean Air Slash.
"Lose to me and become my partner," Red invited, paying no mind to Scyther's threat.
Scyther nodded. In a normal capture battle, the proud Scyther would not bother to drive Red away. It wanted to defeat him openly and crush any delusion of being captured.
Red remained silent, placing his hand at his waist. A Poké Ball activated on its own, and a powerful Beedrill appeared before Scyther. As a naturally proud warrior of the Bug type, Scyther was well aware of Beedrill's strength. Though Beedrill lacked obvious outstanding traits compared to its kind, the aura it faintly emitted was enough to put Scyther on guard.
Ever since being defeated by Giovanni's Beedrill, Beedrill had intensified its training, wishing it could train every waking moment. But such obsessive behavior had been reprimanded by Red. Moderate training could enhance strength, but blind overexertion could lead to ruin.
(Forget it. I've already lost my home. If following this Trainer can make me as strong as this Beedrill…)
Scyther glanced at the forest behind it and sighed softly. After brief contemplation, it came to a decision. Though it had already accepted becoming Red's Pokémon, it still needed to prove its strength through battle so as not to be looked down upon.
Its blades gleamed blue as it launched successive Air Slashes toward Beedrill. Without receiving instructions from Red, Beedrill decisively used Agility to evade.
'Tch! I'm not even qualified to receive commands yet?!' Scyther said in dissatisfaction, rushing forward with Fury Cutter.
"If I'm not mistaken, your Ability is [Technician]. That Quick Attack earlier clearly exceeded normal data," Red judged. As Professor Oak's assistant, Red's theoretical knowledge was top-tier, rivaling even some Pokémon Professors.
(Technician: Moves with base power of 60 or less have their power increased by 50%.)
Scyther made no response, tacitly confirming Red's words. Its Fury Cutter clashed with Beedrill's Twineedle, but Beedrill's strength clearly surpassed its opponent. After a brief contest, the smaller Beedrill overwhelmed Scyther with sheer force, charging forward in one breath. Forced back, Scyther left deep skid marks on the ground.
(So powerful… I can't even withstand a single move!)
After that simple clash, the ever-proud Scyther clearly recognized the gap between them. Continuing the fight would only drain its remaining stamina. It would be better to unleash everything at once and try to deal damage.
Scyther slowly closed its eyes, its body glowing blue as it used Swords Dance, focusing its mind to deliver a decisive strike.
Beedrill made no move, allowing Scyther to concentrate. It was the confidence of the strong.
Suddenly opening its eyes, Scyther dashed forward and used X-Scissor. Beedrill responded instantly with its own X-Scissor, nullifying Scyther's entire assault. Finally, exhausted, Scyther was struck in a vital point by Beedrill's Poison Jab and collapsed.
Seeing this, Red threw the Poké Ball he had long prepared. It struck Scyther, turning it into a red beam of light and drawing it inside. There was not the slightest struggle—Scyther was perfectly captured.
"Come out, Scyther."
Red activated the Poké Ball and released the newly captured Scyther. The Scyther that emerged was panting, clearly not yet recovered from the battle. Seeing this, Red took out a Potion Spray and an Antidote Spray from his backpack to treat it. Beedrill's Poison Jab had indeed poisoned Scyther, but fortunately Red had prepared an Antidote Spray.
As he carefully treated it, Scyther gazed deeply at Red, then quietly closed its eyes, enjoying the cooling sensation of the treatment. Even in severely injured areas, it stubbornly made no sound—its pride at work.
Having successfully captured Scyther, Red also stacked the Swarm Ability onto it, further enhancing its offensive power.
