"Pin Missile!" X2
The two Beedrill unleashed their moves at the same time. Countless needle-like missiles shot toward each other like cannon shells, colliding midair and triggering violent explosions.
"X-Scissor!" X2
Both sides once again used the same move. Two streaks of emerald light weaved back and forth across the sky, clashing from time to time with explosive impacts that stirred terrifying shockwaves. The sight rekindled hope in the heart of the Silph Co. president, who silently prayed that Red's Beedrill would emerge victorious.
"Aerial Ace," Giovanni said calmly.
Giovanni's Beedrill relied on brute force to shove Beedrill aside, turning into an afterimage as it flashed behind it. With lightning speed, it pierced Beedrill's back. Fortunately, Beedrill used Double Team in time, avoiding a fatal blow.
"Not bad strategy, but I don't intend to waste any more time!" Brown earthen aura erupted from Giovanni's body. Influenced by it, Giovanni's Beedrill's muscles swelled, its frame visibly thickening by a full circle. The twin stingers it wielded as weapons grew even larger, as if a single hit would be enough to knock an opponent flat.
"I will never let Beedrill fall here!" Red declared. A crimson, fearsome aura burst from him, and Beedrill, synchronized with Red's spirit, received a boost as well. Its muscles bulged, strengthening its power, and its twin stingers became incomparably sharp.
Battle Intent VS Earth Realm!
"Drill Run!" Giovanni ordered.
"X-Scissor!" Red shouted.
The two Beedrill collided like lightning across the sky, repeatedly clashing as their twin stingers contested each other's strength. The aggressive advance unleashed by battle intent and the steady pressure released by earth continuously devoured one another.
"What a mesmerizing sight. The night sky seems even more beautiful because of this," Giovanni sighed, his words filled with recognition toward Red and Beedrill.
"If you surrender now, the nights in the future might be even more enchanting," Red replied coolly.
"Unfortunately! Until I accomplish my goal, I will never stop!"
The moment his words fell, Giovanni's Earth Realm surged once more. Beedrill nearly failed to withstand Giovanni's Beedrill's assault, almost exposing an opening.
"Beedrill, use Fury Cutter!" Red commanded.
"You think stacking damage will defeat my Beedrill? How childish!" Giovanni said displeased.
"Beedrill, use Drill Run!"
Beedrill repeatedly slashed forward with its twin stingers against Giovanni's spinning Beedrill. With each successive Fury Cutter, guided by battle instinct, Beedrill sensed a flaw and struck viciously with an X-Scissor, hitting a vital point.
(The damage is a bit exaggerated…)
Giovanni frowned as he looked at what had just occurred. During Red's Gym Challenge at the Viridian Gym, he had already witnessed Beedrill triggering Swarm, so he hadn't paid much attention to its damage. But the power of that critical hit now was far too exaggerated.
Giovanni glanced at Red's crimson eyes and shook his head with a faint smile.
(Perhaps it's the instinct awakened by battle intent.)
"It's recovering from its injuries?" Red said in surprise. The wounds Giovanni's Beedrill had sustained earlier were slowly healing.
"The Earth Realm also represents endless vitality. It's just not that exaggerated," Giovanni replied calmly, his gaze suggesting Red need not be so shocked. After all, both were possessors of the Power of Viridian—there was no need to make such a fuss.
(Why hasn't Lance shown up yet?!)
Red shot an irritated look into the distance, his restless heart urging Lance to hurry and provide support. His Dragonite clearly possessed godlike speed, yet it chose this moment to falter. Who knew what Lance was doing?
At this moment, Lance, riding Dragonite, was racing desperately from the Indigo Plateau toward Saffron City.
"This is strange. Silph Co. was attacked in the afternoon—why was I only notified ten minutes ago? What is the League's intelligence division doing?!" Lance said urgently. Upon learning that Red was dueling the leader of Team Rocket, he had hurriedly mounted Dragonite to rush to his aid.
Although Lance was one of the Pokémon League's Elite Four and even a Champion-level trainer, he was not privy to matters involving vested interests. After learning that Giovanni had yet to obtain the Master Ball, the League's higher-ups decided to continue their private dealings with him for profit and were unwilling to tear relations apart too soon. After all, this was a world where interests reigned supreme.
Moreover, even now, the Pokémon League had failed to cultivate a trainer capable of rivaling Giovanni, so they dared not openly oppose him—despite his earlier attempt to monopolize the Master Ball for his own evil plans.
(Red, you mustn't let anything happen to you! I'll be there soon!)
Lance stared at the gradually clearer outline of Saffron City ahead, anxiety rising in his heart. He didn't know Red's true strength and mistakenly believed Red was merely overestimating himself.
At this moment, on Red's side...
"Giovanni-sama, the League's intelligence division has notified us to evacuate immediately. The Dragon Master Lance has already arrived in Saffron City!" An assistant stepped close to Giovanni and spoke softly, signaling it was time to leave.
Not far away, a helicopter emblazoned with a bold "R" slowly descended. Seeing this, Giovanni put on his sunglasses and made slight adjustments to his facial disguise.
"I have no intention of letting you go!"
Blue light flared in Red's eyes as he attempted to forcibly use his psychic power to restrain Giovanni.
"You're still too arrogant!" Giovanni said coldly. An energy barrier materialized before him, blocking Red's psychic power. "In this world, technology is the true weapon that rules everything. Your psychic tricks are nothing but parlor games!"
Sensing Dragonite's aura drawing closer, Giovanni's Beedrill exerted its full strength and launched a Giga Impact toward Beedrill.
Without hesitation, Beedrill also used Giga Impact, engaging in a final clash with Giovanni's Beedrill.
"I must say, in just a few months, the growth of you and your Beedrill has truly surprised me!" Giovanni praised. Back when Red had challenged the Viridian Gym, his Beedrill couldn't even last a few rounds against Giovanni's. Now it fought with real substance—though part of that was due to Giovanni secretly holding back.
"Red, I'm here to support you!"
In the distance, Lance shouted as he rode Dragonite, swiftly entering the battlefield of the two Beedrill.
"Such a rash fellow. What a headache!" Giovanni said coldly, fully unleashing his Earth Realm. Power like towering mountains suppressed Lance and Dragonite's speed.
Lance finally located Giovanni's position and intended to expose his true identity once and for all. However, Giovanni had already thoroughly disguised his face and had no fear of being recognized.
"Though the League has bestowed upon you the title of 'Dragon Master,' don't strut arrogantly in front of me!" Giovanni scoffed. Giovanni's Beedrill, the first to recover from the stalemate, aimed at Dragonite's weakness and unleashed Drill Run.
