Chapter 68 - Chapter 68: Paul and Paul II

(I lost her because of you!") A man's voice echoed in Paul's head.

He rested his back against the door and coiled himself up.

"Hey you two, you went to meet him what did he say?" said Cera whilst she walked up to Leo and Caesar.

Caesar frowned at her sight, Cera noticed this.

"Are you still angry at me, Isn't the situation serious enough to put aside our differences?" Cera said with a smile.

She looked calm outwardly but she was still shaken up from everything that had occurred, from the discussions they had, what scared them the most was; the ghastly being.

"Tch…He didn't tell us anything.

The only reaction he showed was when we asked if Saul had entered before or after him.

He tightened his fists but that was it." Caesar reluctantly narrated with a troubled voiced

"I guess we lost his brother, which of them if he's Paul that would be Saul that died right." Cera shrugged.

Leo flared up, he stormed her but was held by Caesar.

"No one died, stop saying nonsense!" Leo said with anger.

"Hot-headed much?

The least we could do is think rationally through this situation." Cera responded with a confident smirk on her face.

"Pfft…

And you're the one speaking of rationale?

Did you become a comedian in your time behind the door?" Laura walked in on the conversation.

"I'm always rational, you all are just too small minded to see it.

Now that I've gotten the information I needed I'll be out before 'miss righteous' cuts me down." Cera walked away as Laura watched her go.

Caeser slowly let off his hold on Leo.

"What did Paul tell you, anything about Saul?" Laura inquired.

"He didn't tell us anything, I don't think he's in the mood to speak." Leo replied.

"... What happened to Saul, where is he?" Laura thought as she looked at the rippling water.

"I'll talk to him" She looked straight ahead walked past them both.

"I don't think it's going to be any different Laura" Caesar said to her but his words went through one year and came out of the other.

She went to meet him anyway.

"...I can't wrap my mind around the thought that one person alone could be the cause of near extinction." Rud said to Leo and Caesar.

"...I would've preferred if they had gotten extinct" said Leo with seriousness, the other two looked at him with shock in their eyes.

"Stop looking at me like that, what would we do if those things attacked earth, we don't even know what this place is.

Imagine so many of them, with their strength even the weakest is stronger than our current strongest." Leo was paranoid, or could be seen as rational.

"Calm down, that's even the more reason we should get stronger." Caesar said with a smirk on his face.

Leo looked at him plainly.

"Sure that's easy for you to say, you're not stuck without a halo." Leo thought as footsteps creeped closer to them.

A hand wrapped around Leo's shoulder, it was Dan's.

"(What do you think drove her to it)" Dan whispered into Leo's ears.

"Get off me you weirdo." said Leo as he slipped out of Dan's grasp.

"Just give me a repl…" Dan's voice faded.

His eyes were locked on Paul and Laura or rather what was behind them; the doors — they began fading away.

"The doors, they're gone ((guys))" Dan's voice echoed at the last part.

"Fuck" Dan said due to the gravity of the situation.

This time there was no precedent cause, all he knew was that he was now alone in the white space.

The same could be said for each and every one else.

"Caesar? Fiona?" Zefroth said as she looked around her, no one.

But the space wasn't devoid of life, even with her as an exception it wasn't.

Zefroth's eyes opened wide as she drew her blade.

"Paul at least say somet-" Laura's voice ended unnaturally; abruptly.

It was the last thing Paul had heard, so he looked up, she was no longer neither were the others.

He nearly fell to the ground in the absence of the door.

"I see, she was an illusion as well, the same as everyone else.

Am I an illusion too-" That was the conclusion he had come to.

"Tell me, what's real anymo- !" The creatures that appeared over in the distance stopped his yell.

Hundreds of beasts charged at him from all directions, they were the same as the ones that attacked humanity months ago - The spawns.

They were the spawns of the sprout Vegro.

"Surely those are fake as well, and if they aren't…

Well…" Paul tightened his grip on the scythe as he hugged it.

He didn't move a bit, the blood thirsty creatures soon closed in on him.

They pounced on him.

"It wouldn't be bad to go meet Saul wherever he is." Paul muttered as he got a dejected smile while still hugging his scythe.

Leo frowned at the sight of them, he remembered that night, he remembered his father's tears.

As he looked at the cause of every predicament he had gone through.

"Looking back now everything started because of these 'critters' as dad called them, mom, Hermes and the one I saw with my very eyes…" Leo's eyes lit up with flame aether.

"...You bastards killed Marcus!!!" Leo screamed as he pulled out his staff, aether flowed into it from his hands, and then to his legs.

The flames were pure red without any hint of black, a rare sight for Leo.

[Tss…] The sound of fire quenching.

Steam emerged.

"You're kidding me right?

Come on-" Leo was annoyed.

"First I couldn't use my dark aether, that wasn't even a problem now there's this!" Leo thought as he looked at his legs.

Steam released from underneath them as the water quenched his flames.

He tightened his grip on his staff as he spun it across his back to the top of his shoulder.

The horde of spawns inched closer.

"Fine then, that's less aether to waste.

I don't even think I need that much to kill you all." Leo said with a frown.

He exhaled with his mouth and flames came out, Leo was taken by anger.
