Chapter 76 - Chapter 76: An old friend

"How do you kill an immortal being." Leo said with stone cold eyes.

"(If I weren't immortal I would die from laughter.)" Her own words echoed in her mind.

"So you took your conclusions just from that…I see, I'm obligated to answer but your expression right now is so funny to me.

Were their deaths really that pitiful…

[Kekeke]" It was uncertain if it was a taunt, but what was certain was that Leo was angered.

"DIE!!" He plunged his staff deep into her chest, it connected piercing right through her, tar like substance flowed from the hole he created.

[Kugh!] "You got me, who would've thought…I would die to someone like you…" She said as he twisted his staff.

"It couldn't be that easy, something is not right." Leo looked around; there was nothing there, the only thing that remained in the space was him and his insecurities.

Her body fell to the ground lifeless.

Leo took a good scanning his surroundings; nothing was amiss.

"She's dead?" Leo muttered, his breath calmed and his sweat cooled off, the adrenaline wore off and the pain from his wounds came in full swing.

It hurt so much that he stumbled, taking a while before he could pick himself up.

Even then he was unsure. "Do things really come this easy, her body felt too soft.

It connected but it feels weird." He gripped his staff tightly.

He looked up at the sky, the slab she sent falling was even closer, he was running out of time.

"Boo!" a voice said from behind him.

His fail-safes were gone — Leo was frightened.

"With a strike like that you'd wear yourself out before you could graze me." She was right behind him.

The body in front of him crumbled into dust, and he could feel her tremendous presence.

"Just answer my questio-!" Leo spun his body around.

"Would it be immortality if it had an end?

The moment I became immortal I got entangled with existence itself, inseparable from it, now a part of it.

The only way you could get rid of me is sealing me, but with eternity on my side the seal will never outlast me, talk more of the caster of the seal.

Do you get it now, it's an unwinnable battle, any form of victory is temporary highly so." The lady looked at the hopelessness in Leo's eyes and smiled.

Then she looked up to the sky.

"You're out of time, it's time you went on with the trial…" she readied herself for a snap.

"Hope is gone from your eyes, yet your hate for me remains.

It runs so deeply within you that one might think you subsist on it." She walked to Leo with dignified strides.

"Listen child…

If you survive my trial and also survive long enough whilst still bearing this hate towards me…then we shall meet again.

When the day becomes darker than the night and the sky's colour inseperable from space itself, the stars turn black and their edges bleed white.

When the First darkness and its fingers encroach into the world, bringing forth multitudes of disasters along with them.

If you manage to survive till that moment, then we shall see again; though I doubt nothing would change even then." Unlike her demeanor prior to this, she sounded serious with a calm tone.

"What do any of those sentences mean!" Leo yelled at her with a pained voice.

[Snap!] At her snap he was gone.

"What was that sense of solidarity I had with that boy, a certain familarity.

Is that what it would be like to have a child, such an odd feeling."

[Gallop!] The sound of horse's hooves hitting the ground.

"Daaaaad!!!" A voice screamed.

"So this is what she meant by our regret.

I never imagined it would be an event, and this one for that matter." Leo's eyes were spread open, he was mounted on a horse, with a spear and a sword strapped on both sides.

Around him were nearly two hundred horses, horses that had people strapped on top of them, people whose arms were bound by cuffs — They panicked.

What laid before them were a throne of sprouts that outclassed them in number, they were blood mongering, their very appearance testified that.

Leo looked at his palms, the right one was bandaged and his wrists were cuffed.

"It's exactly the same, a perfect replica…I don't want to go through this…" Leo's eyes became sullen.

"What's going on Leo!" A voice echoed from behind Leo, the voice carried distress it was the same one that previously let out a scream.

"That voice…no…no…no" Leo stuttered internally, and then he gulped.

He wanted to turn around but he hesitated "I can't take this…it feels like a sick joke, even sicker that the one Curth played on us." Leo rotated his head slowly and then he stopped.

{ With memories so vivid it's easy to succumb to my emotions, if I get through this situation can't I just make this my reality.

Or could everything else had been an illusion and this reality, I might not want to leave, no there's no reason to.}

Leo looked up to the sky and realised that he had to, then he faced ahead looking at the imminent clash with the sprouts.

"I can't be feeding myself delusions, but was it wrong to long this world, one were one less life was lost.

Yes, this was why it was my greatest regret, it was an event I felt like I could stop, even if that wasn't the case at that time." He closed his eyes.

They were traveling at incredible speeds through the terrain of the fourth quarter.

Leo entrenched his wrists in flame aura before setting them on fire, the cuffs melted off his arm, this time his palms didn't get burnt.

"Hey Leo seriously what is going on?" The voice from behind him said and Leo ignored it.

"Pure red…thinking back now, why was it like this…" Leo thought as the flame gradually dispersed from his hands.
