Chapter 234 - Chapter 234: Hell Slaughter Arena

The girl in black was momentarily stunned, then asked, "Are you certain? Less than one-tenth of those who enter can walk out alive. That place is where our Slaughter City reduces its population most easily. Everyone is only required to enter the Hell Slaughter Arena once a year; as long as you can pass one battle, you can live in Slaughter City for another year."

Gu Xuan and Dugu Yan had already learned this rule from her earlier introduction.

Hearing her reminder again, Gu Xuan said nothing. He simply stared at the girl with his black eyes. Faced with his cold gaze, the girl's eyebrows furrowed slightly behind her black veil.

"Since that is the case, please follow me." Having said that, the girl in black finally led the way into the city.

She maintained a steady pace, staying by Gu Xuan and Dugu Yan's side, though she was always exactly half a step ahead of them.

The inner city gate was wide open without a single guard. The girl explained indifferently, "The Inner City does not need guards. Anyone from the Outer City who has the courage to enter can do so at any time. Of course, once inside, they must endure the unknowns of that world."

"Since you have just arrived at Slaughter City, I suggest you live in the Outer City for a while. It is better to enter the Inner City after you have adapted to everything here."

Neither Gu Xuan nor Dugu Yan replied, and their footsteps did not falter.

Seeing this, the girl spoke no more, saying flatly, "Once we enter the Inner City, please do not stray more than five meters from me. Otherwise, I cannot guarantee your safety."

Hearing this, Dugu Yan gave her a strange look. "Being with you makes us safe?"

The girl glanced at Dugu Yan, a flash of pride appearing in her eyes. "I am the messenger of the Slaughter King. In Slaughter City, no one dares to offend his majesty. Within twelve hours of your entry into this world, you are in a newcomer protection period. Having me by your side is the best protection for your lives."

After a pause, she continued, "Once this time passes, your life and death will be left to heaven."

Upon hearing this, Dugu Yan looked at Gu Xuan and smiled. A newcomer protection period? It seemed Slaughter City truly had its own system.

Without hesitation, Gu Xuan and Dugu Yan stepped into the Inner City with the girl. The moment they entered, they felt an atmosphere completely different from the Outer City. If the Outer City was a world of deathly silence and indifference, the Inner City was a world of luxury and madness, with colorful lights visible everywhere.

The population of the Inner City was much larger, and unlike the quiet coldness of the Outer City, it was incredibly chaotic. Everywhere were sounds of hysterical laughter, painful cries, and bone-chilling noises.

Sweeping a cold gaze across the scene, Dugu Yan said, "Rather than calling this a paradise of sin, it's more like a world of beasts."

The light in the girl's eyes shifted, and she said deeply, "Are you provoking the authority of the Slaughter King? If so, the Great Slaughter King will surely erase you from here. Since you have come, you must obey the rules."

Dugu Yan glanced at her indifferently and continued forward, leaning on Gu Xuan's arm without another word.

Following the girl deeper into the Inner City, it truly was a city of luxury—or rather, depravity. Just as the girl had said, with her by their side, many hostile gazes fell upon them, but no one dared to approach.

Here, Gu Xuan and Dugu Yan saw many things not found in the outside world. If an ordinary person saw these things, their loathing for this world would increase exponentially. In Slaughter City, one didn't even need to consciously control it; killing intent would constantly surge up. It seemed that only through slaughter could one release the pent-up malice in their heart.

Yet even so, Gu Xuan and Dugu Yan remained expressionless.

As they walked, a commotion broke out ahead. At least several dozen people were gathered, and the screams of women could be heard from within. This wasn't the first time they had seen such a disturbance; both chose to ignore it and keep moving. The girl in black said nothing more and led them onward.

Shortly after, she stopped. "Ahead is the Hell Slaughter Arena, the core of Slaughter City."

Following her gaze, Gu Xuan saw a unique structure. It was circular, or more accurately, an irregular cone shape, widest at the base and narrowing as it rose. At about thirty meters above the ground, it maintained a consistent diameter until reaching fifty meters in height.

The area covered by this Hell Slaughter Arena was indeed large; it was only slightly smaller than the Heaven Dou City Great Spirit Arena Gu Xuan had visited before. The black building gave off a very oppressive feeling. The girl informed them that the arena was located at the very center of Slaughter City, showing its vital importance.

"Are there rules for fighting here?" Gu Xuan asked suddenly.

The girl was stunned. "Gentleman Number 9527, do you intend to enter the Hell Slaughter Arena now?"

Gu Xuan nodded without concealment.

Seeing his resolute eyes, the girl stopped trying to dissuade him. "Once inside, use your identity token to register and wait for the match to begin. Fighting is not permitted during the waiting period. Each group that enters the arena consists of ten people. No matter what method you use, as long as you walk out alive in the end, you win. Only one person from each group can leave alive."

Dugu Yan asked, "How does one become a champion?"

The girl looked at her with surprise. These two had only just arrived and were already thinking about becoming champions? She explained, "As long as you participate in one hundred matches and emerge victorious, you are a champion."

"However, the person currently ranked first in the Hell Slaughter Arena has only participated in sixty-nine matches. Every time you participate in a match, your token will record one victory, allowing you to live here for another year and enjoy whatever you want in the Inner City. Of course, you must ensure you are still alive after enjoying yourself."

She added, "Besides competing, you can enter to watch others' slaughter. The qualification to watch is the contribution of one cup of Bloody Mary."

"The Bloody Mary can be your own or someone else's. As long as you don't feel tired, you can keep watching. Matches are held continuously; as long as ten people sign up, one begins."

Hearing this, Dugu Yan's brow furrowed. She couldn't understand why Slaughter City placed such importance on blood. While she couldn't figure it out, Gu Xuan knew the reason, but he couldn't explain it to her now. He kept it to himself, planning to tell her later when the time was right.

At that moment, several people were walking into the arena. Just as the girl said, each held a cup of scarlet blood.

Feeling a sudden impulse, Gu Xuan gave Dugu Yan a faint smile, clearly having an idea. Dugu Yan understood instantly but remained standing calmly.

Gu Xuan strode toward the last of the people preparing to enter. It was a bald, burly man with a bare upper body covered in crisscrossing scars, exuding a ferocious aura.

"Please give me your Bloody Mary." Blocking the bald man's path, Gu Xuan extended his right hand.

He naturally wouldn't use his own blood, much less Dugu Yan's. Thinking it over, stealing was the only way. While it was somewhat unethical, hadn't the girl said everyone here was a sinner? Punishing bad people was a way to improve one's own morality!

The bald man froze. He glanced at the girl in black standing near Dugu Yan. Although a fierce light flared in his eyes, he made no further move, clearly fearing the messenger.

The girl's voice sounded somewhat urgent. "Gentleman Number 9527, if you initiate a provocation, newcomer protection will not take effect."

This was a warning for Gu Xuan, but it also served to alert the bald man. After she spoke, the man let out a sinister laugh and somehow produced a jagged cleaver. He didn't have a soul tool, so this was likely his Martial Soul. He raised the cleaver and swung it directly at Gu Xuan's head.

His movement didn't look fast, but it carried the weight of a mountain—a strong surge of soul power. At least Rank 60; that was Gu Xuan's assessment.

But Gu Xuan didn't withdraw his hand. His flat palm shifted into a ferocious, domineering silver-white Bone Dragon claw. The claw glinted with sharp, cold light, giving off a suffocating pressure.

Gu Xuan's claw shot out, grabbing the cleaver mid-swing.

Soul skills couldn't be used here, but the Martial Soul itself was not restricted, and soul power remained the source of strength. Although Gu Xuan was only Rank 61, his physical fitness had reached the Titled Douluo level. Even without soul skills, he could crush a Soul Emperor above Rank 60.

The bald man clearly hadn't realized the young man before him was so terrifying, but his reaction was swift. With his cleaver caught, he swung his other hand—still holding the cup of Bloody Mary—straight at Gu Xuan's head.

A breeze brushed past, but the man's hand failed to drop as intended. His wrist had been pierced by a thin, toxic needle. Dugu Yan smiled proudly at Gu Xuan; the needle was her handiwork.

Struck by the needle, the man's hand lost all strength. The Bloody Mary fell, only to be caught by Gu Xuan's foot.

Gu Xuan's Bone Dragon claw tossed the cleaver aside and seized the bald man by the throat. Turning his head, Gu Xuan spoke calmly to the girl in black, "I assume killing is permitted here."
