Chapter 52 - Chapter 52: No more mercy

Night fell heavily over the city.

Inside the Hale estate, the lights in the study remained on long after sunset.

Alexander Hale stood at his desk, staring at the tablet in front of him. The article exposing Elena Hale's medical records was still trending across every news outlet.

It wasn't just gossip anymore.

It had become ammunition.

Behind him, Elena sat quietly on the couch. She had wrapped a blanket around her shoulders, though the room wasn't cold.

Alexander noticed.

He closed the tablet and walked toward her.

"You should be resting," he said gently.

Elena gave a small, tired smile.

"I'm fine."

Alexander sat beside her.

"No," he said quietly. "You're not."

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Finally Elena looked at him.

"Everyone knows now."

Her voice was soft but steady.

"The pregnancy… the complications…"

Alexander's expression tightened.

"They shouldn't."

"But they do," she said calmly. "And we can't undo that."

Alexander leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees.

"I can stop it from spreading further."

Elena shook her head slightly.

"No, Alexander. You can't control the internet."

Her hand rested on her stomach.

"But you can control what happens next."

Alexander looked at her.

"And what do you think should happen next?"

Elena's eyes were steady.

"You end this."

Alexander was silent.

Elena continued.

"Marcus crossed a line today."

Her voice hardened slightly.

"He didn't just attack the company."

She placed her hand over Alexander's.

"He attacked our family."

Alexander studied her carefully.

There was fear in her eyes.

But also determination.

"You're right," he said quietly.

Elena frowned slightly.

"That was easier than I expected."

Alexander stood and walked back to his desk.

"That's because I already started."

Elena blinked.

"What?"

Alexander picked up a folder and placed it in front of her.

Inside were several documents.

Company ownership charts.

Legal notices.

Financial records.

Elena scanned the first page.

"What is this?"

Alexander's voice was calm.

"Marcus Vance's final problem."

Elena looked up.

"Meaning?"

Alexander leaned against the desk.

"Marcus built his empire on borrowed money."

Elena frowned.

"I thought he had investors."

"He does," Alexander replied. "But most of them are private lenders."

Realization slowly appeared on Elena's face.

"You're going after his funding."

Alexander nodded once.

"Tonight, every bank and lender connected to Marcus Vance will receive these documents."

Elena looked down again.

The papers showed evidence of Marcus's hidden debts.

If those lenders panicked—

His entire financial structure could collapse.

"That could destroy his company," Elena whispered.

Alexander's eyes remained cold.

"That's the point."

Elena hesitated for a moment.

Then she asked the question quietly.

"And Marcus?"

Alexander didn't answer right away.

Finally he said:

"Without his money…"

"He becomes powerless."

Elena closed the folder slowly.

"And powerless men can be dangerous."

Alexander nodded.

"Yes."

Elena stood and walked toward him.

"Then promise me something."

Alexander looked at her.

"What?"

Elena took his hand.

"When this is over…"

She placed his hand gently on her stomach.

"…you'll come back to us."

Alexander's expression softened.

For a brief moment, the ruthless businessman disappeared.

"I will," he said quietly.

Elena smiled faintly.

"Good."

But across the city, in his penthouse office, Marcus Vance was unaware of the storm about to hit him.

His phone suddenly began ringing.

Once.

Then again.

And again.

Marcus frowned and answered the call.

"Yes?"

The voice on the other end sounded tense.

"Mr. Vance… we have a problem."

Marcus's expression darkened.

"What kind of problem?"

A pause followed.

Then the answer came.

"Our lenders are pulling out."

Marcus slowly stood.

"What?"

"Multiple banks received documents tonight. They're freezing your credit lines until the investigation ends."

Marcus's grip tightened on the phone.

"Who sent them?"

Deep down—

He already knew the answer.

Across the city, Alexander Hale stood in the quiet study of the estate.

Watching the lights of the city.

And waiting.

Because tonight—

Marcus Vance's empire had just begun to fall.
