The Hale estate was unusually quiet that night.
Most of the staff had already retired, leaving only the soft glow of lights in the hallway and the distant hum of the security system.
In the living room, Elena Hale sat on the couch with a blanket over her shoulders, reading messages on her phone. Many were from friends expressing concern after the news leak earlier that day.
She sighed softly and placed the phone down.
Across the room, Alexander Hale stood near the window, reviewing a financial report on his tablet.
"Elena," he said without looking up, "you should really get some rest."
Elena smiled faintly.
"I will. In a minute."
Just then—
A sudden voice echoed from the entrance hall.
"Touching."
Both of them froze.
Alexander turned instantly.
Standing in the open doorway of the living room was Marcus Vance.
Elena's eyes widened.
"How did you—"
Alexander stepped forward immediately, placing himself between Marcus and Elena.
"You shouldn't be here."
Marcus looked around casually, as if admiring the house.
"Security was easier to bypass than I expected."
Alexander's voice turned dangerously cold.
"You broke into my home."
Marcus shrugged.
"I prefer to think of it as an unannounced visit."
Elena stood slowly.
"Alexander…"
Alexander didn't take his eyes off Marcus.
"It's alright."
Marcus's gaze briefly shifted to Elena.
For a moment, his expression showed something like curiosity.
"So this is the famous Elena Hale."
Alexander took another step forward.
"You've seen enough."
Marcus smiled faintly.
"You know, the media talks about you constantly now."
Elena's hands tightened slightly at her sides.
"That was your doing."
Marcus didn't deny it.
"Business strategy."
Alexander's patience snapped.
"Leaking my wife's medical records is not business."
Marcus's expression remained calm.
"You attacked my finances first."
Alexander's eyes hardened.
"You attacked my family."
For a brief moment, the tension in the room became almost unbearable.
Marcus studied Alexander carefully.
"You're angry."
Alexander's voice was low.
"You have no idea."
Marcus chuckled quietly.
"That's exactly what I wanted."
Elena stepped forward slightly.
"Why are you here?"
Marcus finally looked at her directly.
"To see the people Alexander Hale is willing to destroy an empire for."
Alexander's jaw tightened.
"You've seen us."
Marcus nodded slowly.
"Yes."
He slipped his hands into his pockets.
"And now I understand something."
Alexander didn't respond.
Marcus continued.
"Your greatest strength…"
His eyes flickered briefly toward Elena.
"…is also your greatest weakness."
Alexander's expression darkened instantly.
"You should leave."
Marcus looked amused.
"Or what?"
Alexander's voice dropped to a deadly whisper.
"Or I forget that you're standing in my house."
For the first time since arriving, Marcus seemed to consider the threat seriously.
Then he smiled again.
"Relax."
He began walking toward the door.
"I didn't come here to fight."
Alexander didn't move.
Marcus paused near the entrance.
"But our war isn't over."
Alexander replied coldly.
"No. It isn't."
Marcus opened the door.
Before leaving, he glanced back one last time.
"You're dismantling my empire, Alexander."
He smiled faintly.
"So now I'm going to dismantle your life."
Then he stepped outside into the night.
The door closed behind him.
For several seconds, neither Alexander nor Elena moved.
Finally Elena spoke softly.
"That man is dangerous."
Alexander exhaled slowly.
"I know."
Elena looked toward the door where Marcus had disappeared.
"What do we do now?"
Alexander walked to the window again, staring out at the dark city.
His voice was calm.
"We finish what we started."
Because after tonight—
The war between Alexander Hale and Marcus Vance was no longer about business.
It had become something far more personal.
