"Follow me. I'll tell you what you need to do," the friendly guard said as he led Fang Yu into the Three-Step Tower.
Fang Yu followed him inside and found himself in a long corridor that glowed with a metallic sheen.
They walked along this passage for several minutes, yet still hadn't reached the destination.
Logically speaking, at their walking speed, they should have already crossed from the front entrance to the back of the tower multiple times.
However this straight corridor seemed endless.
Seeing this, Fang Yu felt deeply impressed.
The Three-Step Tower truly lived up to being constructed by a great sage who specialized in the Earth Element and secondarily in the Space Element.
The interior was enveloped in a marvelous spatial magic formation.
It even involved certain theories of the Space Element.
There was a concept in spatial theory: one step spans a thousand zhang, two steps span ten thousand li, three steps know no bounds!
The Three-Step Tower was built based on this very principle.
Thus, it was also called the Boundless Tower because from the outside, it didn't appear particularly grand, yet the internal space was nearly impossible to traverse completely.
Continuing forward, a staircase appeared ahead.
The guard stationed here explained some precautions before turning and leaving, while Fang Yu began to ascend.
The staircase looked incredibly awe-inspiring, because it consisted only of individual steps suspended in midair within the dim space ahead, leading toward a triangular floating platform of strong geometric design higher up in the darkness.
As he stepped on them, Fang Yu felt as though they might disappear at any moment but in reality, this sensation was entirely illusory.
When he reached the triangular metallic platform, roughly the size of a basketball court, it counted as the first level. The elemental energy there was exceptionally dense, allowing mages cultivating their Nebulae to expand them much faster than usual.
However, Fang Yu did not stop there and continued upward.
He went all the way to the third level. Even with his current cultivation, it was somewhat difficult to endure.
The moment he stepped into the third level, all the mental pressure suddenly vanished.
In its place was an astonishing eightyfold concentration of elemental energy, making it feel as though he were immersed in an ocean of elements, able to greedily absorb and expand his Nebula.
Meditating here truly felt worth it!
And because of the mysterious ice sphere,
at this third level, his cultivation speed reached a full two hundred times!
It no longer felt like cultivation instead, it was as if energy was being forcefully poured into his body. Moreover, due to the nature of this place, the energy produced caused no harm at all; instead, it felt exceptionally comfortable.
Of course, this two-hundredfold speed only lasted for the morning before being reduced by half.
In the afternoon, the boost dropped below one hundred times.
On the second day, it became sixty times.
By the afternoon of the second day, it had reduced to twenty times.
After reaching twenty times, it no longer decreased. Even at its lowest, it was equivalent to a full month of cultivation outside!
Meditation, meditation repeating again and again.
When cultivating, time always seemed to pass the fastest.
Before he even realized it, three days had already gone by.
After three days of cultivation, his Space and Summoning Nebulae had successfully expanded to the second level.
With those two Elements improved, the remaining time was devoted to his Ice Element Nebula.
Once the time was up, he was called out. There was no helping it the academy strictly limited the duration to three days, not a minute more. Each activation of the Three-Step Tower consumed enormous energy, so it was tightly controlled.
Fortunately, these three days had already brought him tremendous gains!
As Fang Yu walked out of the Three-Step Tower, he felt completely refreshed.
Afterward, he planned to head to the library to look up some magical experiences recorded by predecessors.
The Magic City Institute's library was built on a grand and magnificent scale. Fang Yu quietly walked in alone, disturbing no one.
Inside, there were many specialized books. Some couldn't even be taken out, they were written by the institute itself and not distributed externally, though students were free to read them.
Of course, many of these books were written by the institute's own professors as records of experience. Other institutes had their own collections as well; they weren't anything forbidden.
Fang Yu arrived at the third floor and, following the catalog index, found the section dedicated to Ice Element magic books.
He wasn't here to study professional theory, but rather to look through the experiences of previous mages.
As he skimmed through book after book, he suddenly stopped at a miscellaneous record.
Sitting at a desk, with faint sunlight filtering into the room, Fang Yu slowly flipped through the pages.
This was an autobiographical work of an Ice Element mage. Fang Yu had never heard of his name, but to have left behind a biography here, he must have been a powerful mage.
This senior mage had traveled to many places. He had once taught in Magic City, which was why this record remained.
He came from the land of colorful southern clouds and wrote about things Fang Yu had never known before, unknown matters and unfamiliar demons.
More importantly, the book also introduced a segment of history about Icefield County.
That place was precisely where Fang Yu had obtained the Ice Elemental Holy Spirit.
Fang Yu carefully examined some of the photographs included in the book.
In the first image, it showed a group of men and women in ancient attire resisting a demon tide from Jade Spirit Snow Mountain.
In the second image, he saw a group of ancient mages commanding Frost Stone Giants, fighting against numerous snow mountain demons!
"…"
Fang Yu fell into deep thought once again. Based on the images he saw, along with some of the rumors he had heard in Icefield County at the time, he began to piece things together.
He reconstructed a version of Icefield County's history.
[A tribe of mages once lived normally around Icefield County. One day, an Ice Elemental being descended, triggering a Little Ice Age.
The Little Ice Age altered the surrounding environment and disrupted the tribe's normal way of life, so the mage tribe decided to eliminate the Ice Elemental being.
Due to the unique nature of the Ice Elemental being, after slaying it, the tribe used special methods to seal it atop Jade Spirit Snow Mountain.
However, although they successfully sealed the Ice Elemental being, they could not reverse the already changed environment.
The mage tribe could only adapt to the new conditions. Their totem, the Stone Giants, also began mutating into Frost Stone Giants.
At the same time, the demons around the snow mountain evolved due to environmental changes, and the number of Ice-attributed creatures increased significantly.
Furthermore, ten years ago, the Ice Elemental being revived as an undead. Influenced by its resentment, the demons of Jade Spirit Snow Mountain became extremely violent, frequently triggering demon tides.
This situation has continued until now.
With the passage of history, the ruins of the Ice Elemental being still remain, and the demon tides still persist. Only the mage tribe has disappeared for various reasons, becoming what is now known as Icefield County.]
