Chapter 60 - His Heat

The tension persisted into the next day and when I saw Cyrus waiting for me in the arena, standing strangely where I had sat to hear the news of my second death sentence.

I had cuddled Cheese extra close. He barely let me go this morning. He had grown more anxious as if he could tell that something was very wrong.

And even if he could understand what my words would mean, I could not speak them.

One day I would not come back to our shared room and knowing him—he would wait.

I felt like my heart had been ripped out of my chest as I stalked toward my trainer for the day.

Cyrus didn't acknowledge my arrival. His crimson eyes remained fixed on something in the distance, his silver hair pulled back in a way that exposed the sharp angles of his face. He looked carved from ice, every line of his body radiating a coldness I'd never felt from him before.

His characteristic smirk was gone. 

This was different and somehow I could sense that it was deliberate.
