SUSPECTS AND COMPROMISED ASSETS

Kirsa

Former commander of the Khotor clan, the western remnant of the broken Merkid line. EASTERN ANTAGONISTS

Guyuk

Son of Ogedei Khan and heir to the Mongol Empire's eastern throne. Contracted the assassination attempt against Batu. His entire network in the western steppe has been dismantled. Guyuk's current picture of the western steppe is months out of date and shaped entirely by false content Batu constructed through the channel.

EXTERNAL THREATS

Berke

Son of Jochi and commander of the southern Jochid territories. Escaped south with one rider. His former territory north of the secondary channel is under Jochid consolidation. Alive, his force scattered, not a current operational threat.

WESTERN CLANS

Yesur

Headman of the Tergesh clan. Fifties, experienced, survived three changes of regional authority. Submitted after the Tergesh encirclement and paid a penalty levy of one hundred horses. The Tergesh relationship is confirmed stable. Jaran's uncle.

MERCHANTS AND CIVILIANS

Yusuf

Volga Bulgar trader. Negotiated a written guarantee of safe passage on all Jochid-controlled crossings at a fixed three-year rate, with exclusive routing of Bulgar commercial traffic through Jochid infrastructure in exchange. The guarantee was issued under the wolf's track seal. Both lower river crossings are now Jochid-controlled, expanding the guarantee's coverage. His commercial network constitutes a passive intelligence stream on what moves through Jochid territory.

Davud

Former grain merchant operating out of the Kerait trading post. Node in Guyuk's assassination chain. Fled northeast ahead of Batu's reach when the network began to close. Delivered to the main camp under the narrows terms by Siban and assigned to work commercial contacts under Orel. CEREMONIAL

Buqa

The camp shaman. Present since before Batu's arrival, with authority in the ritual space that operates without requiring confirmation from anyone. Stays at the main camp.
