Chapter 22 - Chapter 19: Part 2 – The Vault of Greed

The black sedan glided through the rain-slicked streets of London, moving past the historic monuments with a predatory silence. Inside, the atmosphere was thick with unspoken threats. Vikram sat by the window, his eyes reflecting the neon blur of the city. He wasn't looking at the landmarks; he was watching the flow of Wealth-Data.

"We are entering the 'Square Mile'," Alistair remarked, his voice smooth and devoid of any real emotion. "The City of London. It is a sovereign entity within a city. Here, the System doesn't just monitor you; it owns your debt before you are even born."

The car stopped in front of an unassuming Victorian-style building. It looked like a boutique law firm, but to Vikram's binary eye, the structure was glowing with a fierce, golden aura.

[LOCATION: THE VAULT OF MAMMON — SECOND CORE SUBSIDIARY]

As they stepped inside, the modern world vanished. The interior was a labyrinth of brass pipes, ticking clocks, and rows of silent clerks sitting behind mahogany desks. None of them looked up. Their eyes were vacant, replaced by small, whirring lenses that scanned ledgers filled with infinite numbers.

"These are the Interest-Keepers," Alistair explained. "They process the 'Greed-Tax' that feeds the London Core."

The Confrontation with the Wealth-Reaper

They were led to a massive iron lift that descended deep into the earth. When the doors opened, they were in a cavernous vault filled with gold—not physical gold, but solidified cubes of glowing energy.

In the center of the vault stood a figure draped in robes made of shredded banknotes. He held a staff tipped with a diamond that pulsed like a heartbeat.

[ANALYSIS: THE WEALTH-REAPER — LEVEL 52 GUARDIAN]

"Subject 001," the Reaper rasped, the sound like dry parchment rubbing together. "You broke the Bhopal Core. A messy, emotional affair. Here, we do not deal in memories. We deal in Contracts."

Vikram stepped forward, his shadow, Krishna, elongating and sharpening into a blade-like silhouette. "I'm not here to sign anything."

"You already have," the Reaper laughed, waving his staff. Suddenly, a holographic document appeared in the air between them. It bore Vikram's thumbprint in blood. "Your father traded your future for the 'Glitch' he planted in your code. To unlock the Second Core, you must pay the 'Interest' on his soul."

The Cold Logic

Vikram didn't panic. He didn't even look at the contract. He looked at the Reaper's diamond staff.

"Twilight," Vikram said calmly. "Analyze the vibration frequency of that diamond."

Divyansh, hidden behind a pillar, whispered into his comms. "It's oscillating at 440Hz, Vikram. It's the tuning fork for the entire vault. If it shatters, the whole 'Greed-Network' collapses."

Vikram looked back at the Reaper. "You talk about contracts and interest. But you forgot the first rule of the market : A contract is only valid as long as the guarantor exists."

Before the Reaper could react, Vikram's hand moved. He didn't attack the Reaper. He slammed his fist into the ground, sending a surge of his 15.6% Sync-Energy directly into the floor's data-lines.

"I'm not paying the interest," Vikram declared. "I'm initiating a Hostile Takeover."
