Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: Infiltrating the Ghost Tower

The Ghost Tower loomed before them, a silent, obsidian monolith against the stark white of the Siberian landscape. Its surface, though appearing solid, shimmered faintly, a subtle distortion in the air that only Han-sol's Error Detection could fully perceive.

[GHOST TOWER: REALITY ANCHOR - WEAK]

[DIMENSIONAL SHIFT: ACTIVE (MINOR)]

[ACCESS PROTOCOL: GLITCHED].

"It's not just camouflaged," Han-sol observed, his breath misting in the frigid air. "It's partially out of phase with our reality. That's why it's so hard to detect. Kaelen has rewritten its dimensional anchor."

"So, how do we get in?" Kai grunted, his axe held ready. The Mana Freeze Protocol was already making his mana-infused axe feel sluggish, its heat enchantment struggling against the pervasive cold.

"We need to find the access point," Luna replied, her eyes scanning the Tower's base. "Kaelen wouldn't make it impossible to enter, not if he intends to use it as a base of operations. There has to be a backdoor, a glitched entry point."

Han-sol focused his Error Detection, pushing past the overwhelming noise of the Mana Freeze Protocol. He saw a faint blue shimmer around a section of the Tower's base, a subtle inconsistency in the obsidian surface.

[ACCESS POINT: HIDDEN (GLITCHED)]

[SECURITY PROTOCOL: BYPASSED (TEMPORARY)].

"There," Han-sol pointed. "A hidden access point. Kaelen's bypassed its security protocol, but the bypass itself is a glitch. I can exploit it."

[REWRITE ACCESS POINT: SECURITY PROTOCOL - BYPASSED TO (OPEN)? Y/N]

He slammed 'Y'. A low hum resonated from the Tower's base, and a section of the obsidian wall shimmered, then dissolved, revealing a dark, cavernous opening. The air inside was still frigid, but the oppressive mana-freezing effect was slightly less intense.

"Alright, Team Phoenix," Yuna's voice crackled through their comms. "Proceed with caution. Kaelen knows you're coming. Expect resistance."

They entered the Ghost Tower, their footsteps echoing in the vast, silent space. The interior was a labyrinth of ice-encrusted corridors and towering, crystalline structures. The Mana Freeze Protocol was even stronger inside, a constant drain on their mana reserves. Han-sol felt his own mana crystallizing at the edges, a painful, numbing sensation.

[MANA RESERVES: DEPLETING (RAPIDLY)]

[MANA CRYSTALLIZATION: ACTIVE].

"My mana is freezing," Kai grunted, his axe now glowing faintly with a desperate heat. "I can barely channel my strength."

"Mine too," Luna whispered, her movements becoming more sluggish. "My shadow-weaving is almost useless."

Han-sol knew they couldn't last long. He had to find the source of the Mana Freeze Protocol, and he had to find it fast. He focused his Error Detection, searching for the core error, the central glitch that powered Kaelen's frozen fortress.

He saw a massive, swirling vortex of blue energy at the heart of the Tower, a colossal error that pulsed with an icy malevolence.

[MANA FREEZE PROTOCOL: CORE - ACTIVE]

[POWER SOURCE: TOWER CORE (CORRUPTED)]

[EFFECT: GLOBAL].

"The Mana Freeze Protocol is powered by the Tower's corrupted Core," Han-sol reported, his voice strained. "It's a global effect within the Tower. I need to get to the Core and rewrite it."

"How do we get there?" Luna asked, her breath misting. "The path is riddled with glitched constructs."

Indeed, as they moved deeper into the Tower, they encountered Kaelen's creations. They were grotesque amalgams of ice and corrupted mana, their forms shifting and reforming, their attacks imbued with the Mana Freeze Protocol.

[GLITCHED CONSTRUCT: ICE GOLEM]

[ATTACK: MANA FREEZE (AREA EFFECT)].

Kai, despite his weakening mana, fought with a desperate ferocity, his axe shattering the ice golems into crystalline shards. Luna, using her dwindling mana, created temporary diversions, allowing Han-sol to bypass the most dangerous encounters. Han-sol, meanwhile, focused on finding the most efficient path, rewriting minor environmental glitches to create temporary safe zones, or to disable traps.

They reached a massive, circular chamber, its walls and ceiling covered in intricate ice formations. In the center, pulsating with an eerie blue light, was the Tower's Core, a colossal crystal of pure, corrupted mana. Around it, Kaelen's signature was undeniable.

[TOWER CORE: CORRUPTED (K.A.E.L.E.N.)]

[MANA FREEZE PROTOCOL: ANCHOR].

"There it is," Han-sol gasped, his body trembling from the cold and the mana drain. "The source of the Mana Freeze Protocol. I need to rewrite it."

"But how?" Kai asked, his voice hoarse. "It's protected by a shield of pure mana. And look!" He pointed to the shadows around the Core. Figures were emerging, cloaked and silent, their eyes glowing with a malevolent light.

[K.A.E.L.E.N. MINIONS: ACTIVE]

[CLASS: SYSTEM GUARDIAN].

Kaelen's System Guardians. They were not constructs, but Awakened, their minds corrupted, their wills bent to Kaelen's. They moved with a chilling precision, their mana-infused weapons crackling with icy energy.

[SYSTEM GUARDIAN: MANA FREEZE ATTACK - ACTIVE].

"They're protecting the Core," Luna whispered, her daggers already drawn. "And their attacks are imbued with the Mana Freeze Protocol. One hit, and we're done."

Han-sol knew he had to act fast. He couldn't fight them. His mana was too low, and their attacks were too dangerous. He had to rewrite the Core, to disable the Mana Freeze Protocol, to give his team a fighting chance. He focused on the Tower Core, his mental energy pushing past the pain, past the cold, past the overwhelming presence of Kaelen's corruption.

[REWRITE TOWER CORE: MANA FREEZE PROTOCOL - ANCHOR TO (DEACTIVATED)? Y/N]

He slammed 'Y'. A blinding flash of blue light erupted from the Tower Core, a wave of pure, uncorrupted mana washing over them. The Mana Freeze Protocol shattered, its icy grip releasing them. The System Guardians shrieked, their forms flickering, their mana-infused weapons sputtering. The cold, which had been a suffocating blanket, receded, replaced by a sudden, almost unbearable warmth.

"It's working!" Kai roared, his axe now blazing with renewed power. "My mana is back!"

Luna, her shadow-weaving skills returning, melted into the shadows, her daggers a blur of motion. The System Guardians, no longer protected by the Mana Freeze Protocol, were no match for the revitalized Team Phoenix. They fell one by one, their corrupted forms dissolving into harmless mana particles.

Han-sol, exhausted but triumphant, looked at the Tower Core. The blue network of glitches was still there, but the oppressive Mana Freeze Protocol was gone. He had debugged the Ghost Tower, but Kaelen was still out there. And he knew, with a chilling certainty, that this was just the beginning of their confrontation. The infiltration of the Ghost Tower was complete, but the true battle, the battle for the fate of the glitched world, was just beginning. He was the Debugger, and Kaelen was the ultimate virus. And the next phase of the hunt, he knew, would be even more dangerous. The frozen whispers of Siberia had revealed Kaelen's twisted genius, and Han-sol was ready to face it head-on.
