Enzo stayed by himself throughout the entire night, enduring the mysterious agony until it vanished as suddenly as it had appeared. One moment it was tearing through his body, and the next it was gone, leaving behind nothing but exhaustion and countless unanswered questions.
The following morning, he rode to the Elaras ehome, hoping to see Elara.
Instead, he was met by her father.
Lord Stone informed him that Elara had fallen ill since the previous day and was confined to her room. She wasn't receiving visitors, not even him.
That must be the reason, Enzo told himself.
He had heard the stories growing up. Every mated lycan could sometimes feel each other's pain.
Perhaps she was truly sick, and somehow the bond was allowing him to experience fragments of her suffering. It wasn't impossible. The Moon Goddess worked in mysterious ways, especially where destined mates were concerned.
Yet that explanation failed to calm the growing unease inside him.
