Adrian's lips slowly curled into a smile, but there was nothing pleasant about it. It was cold, bitter, and filled with years of resentment that had finally reached its breaking point.
"Yeah... you're right," he said quietly, his voice carrying an eerie calm that was far more terrifying than shouting.
"I should have finished you when I had the chance. At least then you wouldn't have been alive to make Enzo the Crown Prince."
For a brief moment, silence settled inside the royal bedchamber.
King Calister lay weakly against the pillows, his complexion pale from days of illness.
His breathing was shallow, yet despite his frail appearance, there wasn't an ounce of fear in his eyes. If anything, he looked almost disappointed.
"And you chose the weakest way possible to kill me," the king said with a dry chuckle.
"You decided to use poison."
He slowly shook his head.
"That alone tells me everything I need to know about you. It proves just how weak you truly are."
